Earlier this month, Cho Young-wuk (Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, The Little Drummer Girl, Thirst, The Handmaiden) has recorded his score for the upcoming Chinese spy thriller Impasse. The film is directed by Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers) and stars Zhang Yi, Yu Hewei, Zhu Yawen, Qin Hailu, Ni Dahong and Liu Haocun. The movie centers on the escape of a group of CCP agents who have obtained proof the Japanese are conducting unethical human experiments. Liwei Pang (Shadow, One Second) is producing the project.

Soundtrack Album for Zhang Yimou’s ‘Shadow’ Released
Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for Zhang Yimou’s action epic Shadow. The album features the film’s original music composed by Lao Zai (Mountain Patrol, Police Story: Lockdown, Railroad Tigers). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Shadow is co-written and directed by Zhang Yimou (House of Flying Daggers, Hero) and stars Deng Chao, Sun Li, Zheng Kai, Wang Qianyuan, Wang Jingchun, Hu Jun, Guan Xiaotong and Leo Wu. The film is set in an ancient period of Chinese history and centers on the court intrigues between a paranoid king, his leading general and the general’s body double or shadow.
‘The Great Wall’ Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for the fantasy epic The Great Wall. The album fetters the film’s original music composed by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Westworld, Iron Man, Pacific Rim, Clash of the Titans). The soundtrack will be released in Mainland China on December 16, 2016 and in other markets in early 2017. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. Ramin Djawadi has signed on to score the upcoming fantasy epic The Great Wall. The film marks the English language debut of director Zhang Yimou (House of Flying Daggers, Hero) and stars Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Andy Lau, Zhang Hanyu and Eddie Peng. The movie tells the story of an elite force making a last stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, 300: Rise of an Empire, 42) is producing the Legendary Pictures and Atlas Entertainment production with Charles Roven (The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, American Hustle), Jon Jashni (Crimson Peak) and Peter Loehr.
‘Coming Home’ Soundtrack Details
Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for Zhang Yimou’s romantic drama Coming Home. The album features the film’s original music composed by Qigang Chen who previously scored the director’s features The Flowers of War and Under the Hawthorne Tree. The music was recorded with the China Philharmonic Orchestra and features piano solos by Lang Lang. The soundtrack will be released overseas on June 13, 2014. No word yet on a domestic release date. Check out audio clips after the jump. Coming Home directed by Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers) stars Chen Daoming, Gong Li, Zhang Huiwen, Guo Tao, Liu Peiqi, Zu Feng and Yan Ni. The movie inspired by Yan Geling’s The Criminal Yu Yanshi chronicles the journey of a Chinese dissident from the 1920′s to the 1990′s. The drama recently world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
