La-La Land Records has announced a reissue of the premiere soundtrack album for the 1985 mystery comedy Clue written and directed by Jonathan Lynn and starring Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Martin Mull, Michael McKean and Lesley Ann Warren. The CD features the film’s original music composed and conducted by John Morris (Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, Dirty Dancing, Young Frankenstein, The Elephant Man, The Producers, The In-Laws, Life Stinks). The 40th Anniversary Edition, which is limited to 1,000 copies, features new art design and a new note from Lynn and is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out the track list and find out more about the soundtrack.

Premiere CD Release Announced for ‘Prince of the City’ & ‘The Twelve Chairs’ Soundtracks
Quartet Records has announced the premiere CD release of the soundtrack album for the 1981 crime drama Prince of the City co-written and directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Treat Williams, Jerry Orbach, Lindsay Crouse, Richard Foronjy and Bob Balaban. The limited edition album features the film’s original music composed by Paul Chihara (Death Race 2000, China Beach, The Bad News Bears Go to China, Romance and Cigarettes). The soundtrack is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also listen to audio samples and check out the full album details. Varese Sarabande & TER Records have previously released a vinyl edition of the album in 1981 and a digital version is available from JAY Records.
Premiere Release of John Morris’ Unused ‘Table for Five’ Score Announced
Dragon’s Domain Records has announced the first-ever soundtrack album for the 1983 drama Table for Five directed by Robert Lieberman and starring Jon Voight, Marie-Christine Barrault, Millie Perkins and Richard Crenna. The album features the original music written for the film by Academy Award nominee John Morris (Blazing Saddles,The Elephant Man, Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein, Dirty Dancing, The Producers, Clue, Life Stinks, The In-Laws, Yellowbeard) whose score was mostly unused in the final cut of the movie with Miles Goodman providing additional music. The soundtrack is now available to order as a limited edition CD on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples. A digital version is expected to be available in the coming months.
‘Spirited’ Score Album to Be Released
Republic Records will release a second soundtrack album for the musical comedy Spirited. The album features the film’s original score composed by Dominic Lewis (Bullet Train, The Man in the High Castle, Peter Rabbit, Money Monster, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, November 18 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. As previously reported, the label is also releasing a separate soundtrack featuring Benj Pasek’s & Justin Paul’s original songs from the movie tomorrow. Spirited is directed by Sean Anders, written by Anders & John Morris and stars Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds, Octavia Spencer, Patrick Page, Sunita Mani and Tracy Morgan.

The album features the film’s original songs written by Academy Award, Grammy Award and Tony Award winners Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (Dear Evan Hansen, The Greatest Showman, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, A Christmas Story: The Musical, La La Land) and performed by cast members including Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds, Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, Patrick Page, Tracy Morgan & others. The soundtrack will be released on November 18 and is now available for pre-order here (digital version) and on Amazon (CD version). A first song (Bringin’ Back Christmas performed by Reynolds & The Spirited Ensemble) is already available to stream/download now and can be checked out below. Spirited is directed by Sean Anders and written by Anders & John Morris is based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, told from the perspective of the ghosts.
Dominic Lewis Scoring Tommy Wirkola’s ‘Violent Night’
Dominic Lewis (The Man in the High Castle, Peter Rabbit, Money Monster, The King’s Man, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween) has recently been scoring the upcoming action comedy Violent Night. The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead Snow) and stars David Harbour, John Leguizamo and Beverly D’Angelo. The movie follows a wealthy family whose home gets invaded by a group of mercenaries on Christmas Eve. Pat Casey & Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog) wrote the screenplay.
John Morris (1926-2018)
John Morris has passed away this past Thursday, January 25, at age 91 at his home in Red Hook, New York. The composer is best known for collaborations on numerous films directed by Mel Brooks, including Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs, The Producers, Life Stinks and Silent Movie. He received two Academy Award nominations for the original title song from Blazing Saddles in 1976 and for his score to David Lynch’s 1980 feature The Elephant Man, for which he was also Grammy Award-nominated. Morris’ other film scoring credits include Arthur Hiller’s 1979 comedy The In-Laws, 1983’s Yellowbeard, 1984’s The Woman in Red starring Gene Wilder, 1985’s Clue, the 1987 classic Dirty Dancing starring Patrick Swayze and 1990’s Stella starring Bette Midler.
Michael Andrews to Score ‘Daddy’s Home’
Michael Andrews has been hired to score the upcoming comedy Daddy’s Home. The film is directed by Sean Anders & John Morris (Horrible Bosses 2, That’s My Boy, Sex Drive) and stars Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini, Hannibal Buress and Paul Scheer. The movie follows a mild-mannered radio executive who strives to become the best stepdad to his wife’s two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling and freeloading real father arrives. Brian Burns (Entourage, Blue Bloods) wrote the screenplay with revisions by Anders & Morris, Chris Henchy (The Other Guys, The Campaign) & Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights) and Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Get Hard).
