Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi action adventure Independence Day: Resurgence directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward. The film’s original music is composed by Thomas Wander & Harald Kloser (2012, White House Down, The Day After Tomorrow, 10’000 BC). Also opening wide is the historical drama Free State of Jones directed by Gary Ross and starring Matthew McConaughey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mahershala Ali and Keri Russell. Nicholas Britell (The Big Short, A Tale of Love and Darkness) has composed the film’s original music. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song I’m Crying by Lucinda Williams. Sony Classical to Release Timur Bekmambetov’s ‘Ben-Hur’ Soundtrack

Sony Classical will release the official soundtrack album for the epic historical drama Ben-Hur. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, The Hurt Locker, Scream, The Wolverine, World War Z). The soundtrack will be released on August 5, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for the full album details. Ben-Hur is directed by Timur Bekmambetov and stars Jack Huston, Toby Kebbell, Rodrigo Santoro, Nazanin Boniadi, Ayelet Zurer, Sofia Black D’Elia and Morgan Freeman. The movie tells the story of Judah Ben-Hur, a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala, an officer in the Roman army.

Marco Beltrami to Score Jaume Collet-Serra’s ‘The Shallows’

Marco Beltrami has been tapped score the upcoming thriller The Shallows. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night, Orphan) and stars Blake Lively and Oscar Jaenada. The movie follows a young woman who is grieving the loss her mother and surfing in an isolated area when she gets stranded on a buoy and a gigantic great white shark comes between her and the shore. Anthony Jaswinski (Vanishing on 7th Street) has written the screenplay. Lynn Harris (The Notebook, Blade: Trinity) and Matti Leshem are producing the project.

‘Gods of Egypt’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for Alex Proyas’ fantasy adventure Gods of Egypt have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, 3:10 to Yuma, The Wolverine, World War Z, The Hurt Locker). The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 26, 2016 and physically on March 25 by Varese Sarabande Records. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. Varese Sarabande will release a score album for the sports comedy drama Eddie the Eagle directed by Dexter Fletcher, produced by Matthew Vaughn and starring Taron Egerton & Hugh Jackman. The album features the film’s original music composed by Matthew Margeson (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kick-Ass 2, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children). The soundtrack will be released physically on March 25, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the film and a cut from the composer’s score will be released by Universal Music. Varese Sarabande will also release the official soundtrack album for Alex Proyas’ action adventure Gods of Egypt starring Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Young, Courtney Eaton & Brenton Thwaites. Premiering tonight is the revival mini-series of The X-Files created by Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, as well as guest stars including Joel McHale, Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose. Mark Snow (Millennium, Smallville, Blue Bloods, Ghost Whisperer) who previously scored all episodes of the original series, as well as the two movie adaptations, returns as the composer of the 6-part series. Marco Beltrami and Dennis Smith are composing the music for the new Fox drama Lucifer. The show is based on the DC Comics characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth & Mike Dringenberg and stars Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Rachael Harris, DB Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro and Scarlett Estevez. The series centers around the Lord of Hell as he resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he opens an exclusive piano bar called Lux and helps the LAPD punish criminals. Tom Kapinos (Californication) wrote and executive produced the pilot episode of the Warner Bros. Television production.

The film’s original music is composed by James Newton Howard (Maleficent, King Kong, The Sixth Sense, The Village). Republic Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally on Monday and physically the following week. Marco Beltrami and Miles Hankins have composed the original score for the upcoming holiday comedy The Night Before. The film is directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, The Wackness) and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, Lizzy Caplan, Julian Bell, Mindy Kaling and Michael Shannon. The movie centers on three longtime friends deciding to party one last time on Christmas Eve to mark the conclusion of their 14-year-old holiday tradition. Levine has also co-written the screenplay with Kyle Hunter, Ariel Schaffir and Evan Goldberg (Superbad, This Is the End).
