Marcelo Zarvos has signed on to score the upcoming action comedy American Ultra. The film is directed by Nima Nourizadeh (Project X) and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Topher Grace, Tony Hale, John Leguizamo, Bill Pullman and Walton Goggins. The movie follows a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend is suddenly turned upside down when he finds out that he is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. Max Landis (Chronicle) wrote the screenplay.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the romantic drama The Age of Adaline directed by Lee Toland Krieger and starring Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman, Kathy Baker, Amanda Crew, Harrison Ford and Ellen Burstyn. The film’s original music is composed by Rob Simonsen (Foxcatcher, (500) Days of Summer, The Spectacular Now). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the end credits song Start Again. Also opening wide is the drama Little Boy directed by Alejandro Monteverde and starring Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin James, Ben Chaplin, Michael Rapaport, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Ted Levine, David Henrie, Eduardo Verastegui and Jakob Salvatri. Stephan Altman and Mark Foster, from Foster the People, have composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the movie’s score earlier this week. Marcelo Zarvos to Score ‘Our Kind of Traitor’
Marcelo Zarvos has been tapped to score the upcoming spy thriller Our Kind of Traitor. The film is directed by Susanna White (Nanny McPhee Returns, Parade’s End) and stars Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgard, Naomie Harris, Damian Lewis and Jeremy Northam. The movie based on the novel by John le Carre (The Constant Gardener, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) follows a couple who get embroiled with a Russian oligarch and high-profile money launderer while on holiday in Marrakech. Hossein Amini (The Two Faces of January, Drive, Snow White and the Huntsman) has written the screenplay. Simon Cornwell & Stephen Cornwell (A Most Wanted Man) are producing the project for The Ink Factory, alongside Gail Egan (A Little Chaos) for Potboiler.
Marcelo Zarvos to Score ‘The Choice’
Marcelo Zarvos is reuniting with director Ross Katz on the upcoming romantic drama The Choice. The film based on the novel of the same title by Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, Dear John, Message in a Bottle) stars Benjamin Walker, Teresa Palmer, Tom Welling, Alexandra Daddario, Maggie Grace and Tom Wilkinson. The movie is set in a small coastal town where a young man ends up pursuing a relationship with his new neighbor, leading to a journey that neither could have foreseen. Bryan Sipe (Demolition) has written the screenplay. Sparks is also producing the project with Theresa Park (The Best of Me, The Longest Ride) and Peter Safran (The Conjuring, Annabelle, Buried).

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Strange Magic directed by Gary Rydstrom, produced by George Lucas and featuring the voices of Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph, Sam Palladio, Meredith Anne Bull, Alfred Molina, Elijah Kelley, Bob Einstein and Peter Stormare. Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge, Kick-Ass) serves as the film’s musical director and has also composed the original score. Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by the voice cast. Also opening wide is the thriller The Boy Next Door directed by Rob Cohen, produced by Jason Blum and starring Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Guzman, John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. The film’s original music is composed by Randy Edelman who previously scored such films as Dragonheart, xXx and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor for Cohen and Nathan Barr (True Blood, The Americans). Opening in around 3300 theaters is the family movie Paddington written and directed by Paul King and starring Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Nicole Kidman, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi and Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington. The film’s original music is composed by Nick Urata (Crazy, Stupid, Love, Focus). Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as songs from the film by James Brown, Steppenwolf and Lionel Richie. Christopher Lennertz (Ride Along, Agent Carter, Identity Thief) has composed the film’s original score. Premiering tonight is the new Showtime original series The Affair created by Hagai Lemi & Sarah Treem and starring Dominic West, Ruth Wilson, Maura Tierney and Joshua Jackson. The show’s original music is composed by Marcelo Zarvos (Enough Said, Ray Donovan, The Good Shepherd, The Door in the Floor). Kevin Kiner (Hell on Wheels, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, CSI: Miami) is composing the show’s score and Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, The Motorcycle Diaries, Babel) has composed the theme music. Marcelo Zarvos to Score Showtime’s ‘The Affair’
Marcelo Zarvos has been hired to score the upcoming Showtime original series The Affair. The show is created by Hagai Lemi (In Treatment) & Sarah Treem (House of Cards) and stars Dominic West, Ruth Wilson, Maura Tierney and Joshua Jackson. The drama explores the emotional and psychological effects of an extramarital affair, told separately from the male and female perspectives and follows young woman waiting tables at a Hamptons diner, who begins an affair with a public school teacher and aspiring novelist. Treem and Levi are also executive producing the project with Eric Overmyer (The Wire) and director Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights).
Marcelo Zarvos Scoring Tod Williams’ ‘Cell’
Marcelo Zarvos is reuniting with director Tod Williams on the upcoming horror thriller Cell. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Stephen King and stars John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Isabelle Fuhrman and Stacy Keach. The film follows a New England artist who is struggling to reunite with his son after a mysterious signal broadcast over the global cell phone network turns humans into mindless vicious animals. Adam Alleca (The Last House on the Left) has written the screenplay. Michael Benaroya (Lawless, Margin Call), Brian Witten (Chernobyl Diaries), Richard Saperstein & Shana Kay (Devil’s Knot, Silent Night) are producing the Benaroya Pictures production. Zarvos has previously scored Williams’ 2004 drama The Door in the Floor.

Premiering on Wednesday, July 9, is the new CBS drama Extant created by Mickey Fisher and starring Halle Berry, Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer and Michael O’Neill. The show’s original music is composed by Marcelo Zarvos (Enough Said, Ry Donovan, The Big C, Remember Me).
