A score soundtrack album for Jodie Foster’s drama The Beaver has recently been released digitally. The album includes 19 tracks of Marcelo Zarvos‘ original score from the movie. Weekly Film Music Roundup (May 6, 2011)
Three new movies are opening nationwide and this weekend:
The comic book adaptation Thor directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Ray Stevenson, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo and Stellan Skarsgaard is expected to top the weekend box office. Patrick Doyle has composed the score for the film and a soundtrack has been released on Buena Vista Records. Check out our announcement for details on the album and audio clips. Also opening wide is the comedy Jumping the Broom directed by Salim Akil and starring Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Loretta Devine, Mike Epps and Julie Bowen. Edward Shearmur composed the film’s score and a soundtrack with both score and songs from the film has been released earlier this week by Madison Gate Records. Marcelo Zarvos Scoring ‘Too Big to Fail’
Marcelo Zarvos is currently finishing up work on the score for the upcoming HBO drama Too Big to Fail. The film directed by Curtis Hanson offers an intimate look at the financial crisis of 2008 and the group of powerbrokers who decided the fate of the world’s economy in a matter of a few weeks. The movie stars William Hurt as President George W. Bush’s Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Paul Giamatti as Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernank, James Woods as Lehman Brothers CEO Dick Fuld and Ed Asner as Warren Buffett. Also starring is Billy Crudup, Matthew Modine, Tony Shalhoub, Topher Grace, Kathy Baker, Bill Pullman, Michael O’Keefe and Cynthia Nixon. Too Big to Fail is based on the book by Andrew Ross Sorkin and adapted for the screen by Peter Gould (Breaking Bad).

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Gore Verbinski’s animated movie Rango starring Johnny Depp features music by Hans Zimmer. Visit our previous article announcing the soundtrack album to find out more. The soundtrack is now available to download at Amazon and iTunes and will be released on CD on March 15. Also opening is George Nolfi’s The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt The film’s score is written by Thomas Newman who also collaborated on a song for the movie with Richard Ashcroft. ‘Beastly’ Soundtrack albums announced
Lakeshore Records has announced two different soundtrack albums for the upcoming teen fantasy romance Beastly. The score album features the original score from the movie by composer Marcelo Zarvos. A separate song album will include songs from the film from such artists as Hanover Swain, Regina Spektor, The Vines and Ginsey. Beastly is a modern-day take on the “Beauty and the Beast” tale where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love. The film stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alex Pettyfer, Neil Patrick Harris, and Mary-Kate Olsen and is set to open on March 4, 2011.
Marcelo Zarvos slated to score The Bay
Marcelo Zarvos is set to reunite with director Barry Levinson on the upcoming sci-fi horror film The Bay (aka Isopod). Zarvos and Levinson previously collaborated on the 2008 satire What Just Happened and this year’s HBO movie You Don’t Know Jack. According to Screen Daily, The Bay centers around the aftermath of a viral outbreak on the Eastern Seaboard. The story is told via a series of recordings on camera phones, 911 calls and other scraps of video as the town of Claridge, Maryland, is engulfed by chaos. The cast mostly consists of relatively unknown actors. The film is produced by Jason Blum and Steven Schneider, the team behind the Paranormal Activity movies. No release date or distribution deal has been announced yet for the independent film production.
Marcelo Zarvos to take over The Beaver
The Gorfaine/Schwartz agency has confirmed that Marcelo Zarvos will score the Jodie Foster-directed comedy drama The Beaver. He is replacing Brian Reitzell, who was originally attached to score the movie according to his agency Evolution Music Partners (also see our news entry). In the movie, Mel Gibson plays a depressed toy company CEO with a failed marriage starts to wear a beaver puppet on his hand as a form of therapy, much to the initial bemusement of his family. The movie co-stars Jodie Foster and Anton Yelchin. Summit Entertainment will release the film later this year.
Remember Me score album coming soon
Marcelo Zarvos’ score for the romantic drama Remember Me will be released next Tuesday, March 9 by E 1 Music. The album features 12 cues from the score for a total of 45 minutes of music. The album will be a download-only release available iTunes or Amazon. To listen to clips from the score, check out this link on Amazon. A separate song album will also be released the same day. Remember Me stars Robert Pattinson, Emilie DeRavin, Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper and will be released on March 12 by Summit Entertainment. Zarvos and Levinson to reunite on HBO movie
Marcelo Zarvos recently finished work on his score for the HBO biopic You Don’t Know Jack. The projects marks Zarvos’ second collaboration with award-winning director Barry Levinson who previously worked together on the satire What Just Happened?. You Don’t Know Jack offers a look at the life and work of doctor-assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian, played by Al Pacino. Pacino is joined by Danny Huston, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman. Brooklyn’s Finest, another Zarvos project opens in theaters today. The score to the crime thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke and Wesley Snipes will be released by Varese Sarabande Records on March 23.
