Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Gore Verbinski’s animated movie Rango starring Johnny Depp features music by Hans Zimmer. Visit our previous article announcing the soundtrack album to find out more. The soundtrack is now available to download at Amazon and iTunes and will be released on CD on March 15. Also opening is George Nolfi’s The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt The film’s score is written by Thomas Newman who also collaborated on a song for the movie with Richard Ashcroft. ‘Beastly’ Soundtrack albums announced

Lakeshore Records has announced two different soundtrack albums for the upcoming teen fantasy romance Beastly. The score album features the original score from the movie by composer Marcelo Zarvos. A separate song album will include songs from the film from such artists as Hanover Swain, Regina Spektor, The Vines and Ginsey. The song album will be released on March 1, 2011 and the score album will be coming out on March 15. To listen to audio clips from the score album and pre-order the CD, visit Screen Archives. Beastly is a modern-day take on the “Beauty and the Beast” tale where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love. The film stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alex Pettyfer, Neil Patrick Harris, and Mary-Kate Olsen and is set to open on March 4, 2011.

Marcelo Zarvos slated to score The Bay

Marcelo Zarvos is set to reunite with director Barry Levinson on the upcoming sci-fi horror film The Bay (aka Isopod). Zarvos and Levinson previously collaborated on the 2008 satire What Just Happened and this year’s HBO movie You Don’t Know Jack. According to Screen Daily, The Bay centers around the aftermath of a viral outbreak on the Eastern Seaboard. The story is told via a series of recordings on camera phones, 911 calls and other scraps of video as the town of Claridge, Maryland, is engulfed by chaos. The cast mostly consists of relatively unknown actors. The film is produced by Jason Blum and Steven Schneider, the team behind the Paranormal Activity movies. No release date or distribution deal has been announced yet for the independent film production.

Zarvos and Levinson to reunite on HBO movie

Marcelo Zarvos recently finished work on his score for the HBO biopic You Don’t Know Jack. The projects marks Zarvos’ second collaboration with award-winning director Barry Levinson who previously worked together on the satire What Just Happened?. You Don’t Know Jack offers a look at the life and work of doctor-assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian, played by Al Pacino. Pacino is joined by Danny Huston, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman. Brooklyn’s Finest, another Zarvos project opens in theaters today. The score to the crime thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke and Wesley Snipes will be released by Varese Sarabande Records on March 23.
