Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Gore Verbinski’s animated movie Rango starring Johnny Depp features music by Hans Zimmer. Visit our previous article announcing the soundtrack album to find out more. The soundtrack is now available to download at Amazon and iTunes and will be released on CD on March 15. Also opening is George Nolfi’s The Adjustment Bureau starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt The film’s score is written by Thomas Newman who also collaborated on a song for the movie with Richard Ashcroft. ‘Rango’ Soundtrack Preview

Paramount Pictures has revealed a new clip from the upcoming animated movie Rango directed by Gore Verbinski. The clip features Hans Zimmer’s orchestral arrangement of the Rango theme song by Los Lobos that was previewed a few weeks ago on the Los Angeles Times Music Blog. Hans Zimmer to collaborate with ‘Rodrigo y Gabriela’ on new Pirates movie

Hans Zimmer revealed in a recent interview on KCRW that he is currently collaborating with the Mexican music duo Rodrigo y Gabriela on his score for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Rodrigo y Gabriela are known for their fast, rhythmic acoustic guitar performances. Visit the duo’s official webpage to find out more about Rodrigo and Gabriela and listen to their work. The fourth Pirates of the Caribbean directed by Rob Marshall and starring Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush and Penelope Cruz is set to open on May 20, 2011. In the interview, Zimmer also talks about his Oscar-nominated score for Inception, his thoughts on the Award season and his other upcoming projects. ‘Rango’ Soundtrack album announced

Anti Records has announced a soundtrack album for Gore Verbinski’s upcoming animated film Rango. The album includes the original score by Hans Zimmer, as well as songs by Los Lobos. Hans Zimmer confirmed to score untitled Sherlock Holmes sequel

Hans Zimmer’s agency has confirmed his involvement in the upcoming untitled Sherlock Holmes sequel. The assignment doesn’t come as a surprise given the positive reaction to the score for the first part which ended up getting Zimmer his first Oscar nomination in 9 years. The Guy Ritchie-directed movie is currently filming and stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law alongside new cast members Stephen Fry, Jared Harris and Noomi Rapace. In the sequel, Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty. Warner Bros has set a December 16, 2011 release.
