Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is supernatural horror sequel Insidious: The Red Door directed by Patrick Wilson and starring Ty Simpkins, Wilson himself, Rose Byrne, Andrew Astor, Sinclair Daniel and Hiam Abbass. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Curse of La Llorona, Malignant). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening wide today is the comedy Joy Ride directed by Adele Lim and starring Stephanie Hsu, Ashley Park, Sabrina Wu, Sherry Cola, Ronny Chieng, David Denman, Annie Mumolo, Lori Tan Chinn and Chris Pang. Nathan Matthew David (Deadly Class, Young Rock, Stephen Curry: Underrated, The Last Word) has composed the film’s original score. Rhino Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as multiple songs from the movie today. Columbia Records will release the official soundtrack album for the teen drama Words on Bathroom Walls. The album features the film’s original music composed by the EDM duo The Chainsmokers and Andrew Hollander (Waitress, Gray Matters, Sleepwalk with Me, Serious Moonlight). Also included are The Chainsmokers’ songs Push My Luck and Somebody (feat. Drew Love). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, August 21 and will be available to stream/download here. The Chainsmokers have made their film scoring debut on the upcoming drama Words on Bathroom Walls. The EDM duo has co-scored the movie with composer Andrew Hollander (Waitress, Sleepwalk with Me, Gray Matters, Serious Moonlight). The movie is directed by Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) and stars Charlie Plummer, Taylor Russell, Andy Garcia, AnnaSophia Robb, Beth Grant, Devon Bostick, Lobo Sebastian, Molly Parker and Walton Goggins. The teen drama is based on Julia Walton’s YA novel of the same title and follows a young adult with raging hormones that has dreams of becoming a chef, when he is diagnosed with mental illness that he keeps secret at his new school.

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the HBO documentary It’s a Hard Truth Ain’t It. The album features the film’s original music composed by Andrew Hollander (Waitress, Sleepwalk with Me, My Friend Dahmer, Labor Pains). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 5 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. It’s a Hard Truth Ain’t It is directed by Madeleine Sackler and follows 13 incarcerated men as they study filmmaking as a vehicle to explore their memories and how they ended up with decades-long sentences. Several of those 13 men were also cast in Sackler’s narrative feature O.G.

‘My Friend Dahmer’ Soundtrack Announced

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the drama My Friend Dahmer. The album features the film’s original music composed by Andrew Hollander (Waitress, Sleepwalk with Me, Serious Moonlight). The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 30, 2018 and will be available to download on Amazon. My Friend Dahmer is directed by Marc Meyers and stars Ross Lynch, Anne Heche, Alex Wolff, Dallas Roberts and Vincent Kartheiser. The movie centers on the troubled childhood of Jeffrey Dahmer, a serial killer who murdered 17 men and boys in the midwest United States between 1978 and 1991.

The film’s original music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, The Royal Tenenbaums). Already playing in theaters since this past Wednesday is the comedy A Bad Moms Christmas written and directed by Jon Lucas & Scott Moore and starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Jay Hernandez, Cheryl Hines, Peter Gallagher, Justin Hartley, David Walton, Christine Baranski and Susan Sarandon. Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Baywatch, Ride Along, Agent Carter) who previously scored the original film has composed the sequel’s score.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:

Already in theaters since this past Wednesday is the action comedy Hit & Run directed by Dax Shepard and David Palmer and starring Shepard, Kristen Bell, Bradley Cooper, Tom Arnold, Beau Bridges, Kristin Chenoweth, David Koechner and Michael Rosenbaum. The film’s score is composed by Julian Wass and Bob Mervak has provided additional music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs by artists including Ishmael Jingo, Lou Rawls, Kool and the Gang, John Martyn, Dazz Band and The Highlighters. Also opening wide is the action thriller Premium Rush co-written and directed by David Koepp and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jamie Chung, Dania Ramirez and Michael Shannon. David Sardy (Zombieland, 21, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance) has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been released so far. The movie follows a New York City bike messenger who picks up a package at Columbia University and subsequently catches the attention of a dirty cop. Sundance 2012 Film Music Roundup (Part 4)

Also check out Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of our roundup of the music and composers of the movies premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

One of the best received films that premiered at the festival is the drama Smashed directed by James Ponsoldt (Off the Black). The film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul as s a married couple whose bond is built on a mutual love of alcohol and whose relationship is put to the test when the wife decides to get sober. The cast also includes Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally and Mary Kay Place. Ponsoldt co-wrote the screenplay with Susan Burke and Jennifer Cochis, Jonathan Schwartz, Andrea Sperling (Like Crazy) are producing. The film’s music is written by Andy Cabic and Eric D. Johnson. While the project marks Cabic’s feature scoring debut, Johnson has previously written the music for the Uma Thurman-starring romance Ceremony and co-scored last year’s indie comedy Our Idiot Brother starring Paul Rudd.
