Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice have written the original song Cold One for Jonathan Demme’s comedy drama Ricki and the Flash. The song is performed by Meryl Streep who stars in the film alongside Kevin Kline, Mammie Gummer, Audra McDonald, Sebastian Stan and Rick Springfield. The movie directed by Demme (The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia) and scripted by Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult) follows a guitar heroine who made a world of mistakes as she followed her dreams of rock-and-roll stardom and gets a shot at redemption and a chance to make things right as she faces the music with her family.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Strange Magic directed by Gary Rydstrom, produced by George Lucas and featuring the voices of Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph, Sam Palladio, Meredith Anne Bull, Alfred Molina, Elijah Kelley, Bob Einstein and Peter Stormare. Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge, Kick-Ass) serves as the film’s musical director and has also composed the original score. Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by the voice cast. Also opening wide is the thriller The Boy Next Door directed by Rob Cohen, produced by Jason Blum and starring Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Guzman, John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. The film’s original music is composed by Randy Edelman who previously scored such films as Dragonheart, xXx and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor for Cohen and Nathan Barr (True Blood, The Americans). ‘Song One’ Soundtrack Details
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the romantic drama Song One. The album features the songs from the film written by Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Lewis and performed by Johnny Flynn & Anne Hathaway. Also included are songs by Nina Simone, Felice Brothers, Sharon Van Etten, America, Ben Rosenfeld, Dan Deacon & more. The soundtrack will be released on January 13, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Song One is written and directed by Kate Barker-Froyland and stars Anne Hathaway, Johnny Flynn, Mary Steenburgen and Ben Rosenfield. The movie follows a young archaeologist who returns home from a dig in order to see her injured brother, and soon she strikes up a relationship with his favorite musician.

Opening in most theaters is the action adventure Hercules directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt. The film’s original music is composed by Fernando Velazquez (The Impossible, The Orphanage, Devil). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A CD release is set for next month. Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Lucy directed by Luc Besson and starring Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman and Analeigh Tipton. Besson’s regular musical collaborator Eric Serra (The Professional, The Fifth Element) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. A different soundtrack, which also features the original song Sister Rust performed by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and tracks by The Crystal Method and Raury will be released overseas next month. Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice to Score ‘Song One’
According to The Hollywood Reporter/Billboard, Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice are set to score the upcoming musical drama Song One. The movie stars Anne Hathaway, Mary Steenburgen and British folk artist Johnny Flynn and follows a young woman who develops a relationship with her comatose brother’s favorite indie rock star. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Kate Barker-Froyland who also wrote the screenplay. Christopher Woodrow (The Immigrant, Blood Ties) and Molly Conners are producing the project alongside Hathaway, Marc Platt (Drive, Wanted, Legally Blonde), Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) and Adam Shulman. It has previously been reported that duo is also writing original songs for the project.
Jenny Lewis to Score Naomi Foner’s ‘Very Good Girls’
Herrick Entertainment and Groundswell Productions have announced that Jenny Lewis will be writing the score for the upcoming indie drama Very Good Girls. The film marks the directorial debut of Naomi Foner and stars Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen as two lifelong best friends, both determined to lose their virginity as a rite of passage into the adult world. When they fall in love with the same boy, their quest threatens to tear their relationship apart. Boyd Holbrook, Demi Moore, Richard Dreyfuss, Ellen Barkin, Kiernan Shipka and Peter Sarsgaard are co-starring. Foner whose previous credits as a screenwriter include Running on Empty, Losing Isiah and Bee Season has also written the film’s script. Herrick Herrick (Vanishing on 7th Street), Michael London (Sideways, House of Sand and Fog) and Mary Jane Skalski (The Visitor, The Station Agent) are producing the project.
