Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

herculesOpening in most theaters is the action adventure Hercules directed by Brett Ratner and starring Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt. The film’s original music is composed by Fernando Velazquez (The ImpossibleThe OrphanageDevil). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A CD release is set for next month. lucyAlso opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Lucy directed by Luc Besson and starring Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman and Analeigh Tipton. Besson’s regular musical collaborator Eric Serra (The ProfessionalThe Fifth Element) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. A different soundtrack, which also features the original song Sister Rust performed by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and tracks by The Crystal Method and Raury will be released overseas next month. and-so-it-goesAlso opening nationwide is the romantic comedy drama And So It Goes directed by Rob Reiner and starring Michael Douglas, Diane Keaton and Sterlin Jerins. The film’s original music is composed by Marc Shaiman (HairsprayCity SlickersSleepless in Seattle) who regularly works with the director and has previously scored films including MiseryA Few Good Men and The Bucket List. No word yet on a soundtrack release. And So It Goes follows a self-centered real estate agent whose life is turned upside down when his son suddenly drops off a granddaughter he never knew. magic-in-the-moonlightOpening in limited release is the romantic comedy Magic in the Moonlight written and directed by Wood Allen and starring Eileen Atkins, Colin Firth, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney, Emma Stone and Jacki Weaver. The movie doesn’t feature an original score, but a number of songs, classical pieces and jazz tracks. No soundtrack album has been announced. Magic in the Moonlight is set in the 1920s on the opulent Riviera and follows a master magician who is trying to expose a psychic medium as a fake. a-most-wanted-manOpening in limited release is the thriller A Most Wanted Man directed by Anton Corbijn and starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe, Daniel Bruhl and Nina Hoss. Herbert Grönemeyer who previously scored Corbijn last feature The American has composed the film’s original music. very_good_girlsAnother limited release this weekend is the indie drama Very Good Girls written and directed by Naomi Foner and starring Elizabeth Olsen, Dakota Fanning, Boyd Holbrook, Demi Moore, Richard Dreyfuss, Peter Sarsgaard, Clark Gregg and Ellen Barkin. The film’s original music is composed by Jenny Lewis who is best known as the primary vocalist of the rock band Rilo Kiley. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Very Good Girls follows two best friends who – home for one last New York summer – make a pact to lose their virginity before leaving for college. The movie premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Tribeca Film and Well Go USA Entertainment. happy-christmasAlso opening in select cities following a release on VOD last month is the indie comedy drama Happy Christmas written and directed by Joe Swanberg who also stars in the film alongside Anna Kendrick, Melanie Lynskey, Mark Webber and Lena Dunham. The movie doesn’t feature an original score, but a number of songs. No soundtrack release has been announced. Happy Christmas follows a hard partying 20-something who moves in with a budding novelist, her film director husband and their two-year-old son after a break up. The dramedy premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Magnolia Pictures for domestic distribution. ironclad-battle-for-bloodAlso opening in limited release is the action adventure Ironclad: Battle for Blood co-written and directed by Jonathan English and starring Michelle Fairley, Tom Austen, Tom Rhys Harries, Roxanne McKee, Rosie Day, Predrag Bjelac, Andy Beckwith, David Caves and Twinnie Lee Moore. Andreas Weidinger has composed the film’s original music. The film follows one of the few survivors of the Great Siege of Rochester Castle who fights a brutal battle to protect his family’s estate from fierce Celtic raiders. Lorne Balfe has composed the music for the previous Ironclad film. Battle for Blood is being released by XLrator Media.
