Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for the action adventure sequel The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power. The album features the film’s original music composed by Geoff Zanelli (Disturbia, Hitman, Mortdecai, The Odd Life of Timothy Green). The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 13, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. La-La Land Records has announced a physical version of the soundtrack to be released later this month. Check out audio clips after the jump. The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power is directed by Mike Elliott and stars Victor Webster, Lou Ferrigno, Roy “Big Country” Nelson, Royce Gracie and Don Wilson. The movie takes place after the king of Norvania is assassinated and follows the legendary Scorpion King Mathayus is framed for the crime and must fight off an entire kingdom of soldiers.

‘Mortdecai’ to Feature Music by Mark Ronson & Geoff Zanelli
Mark Ronson and Geoff Zanelli have composed the music for the upcoming action comedy Mortdecai. The film is directed by David Koepp (Premium Rush, Stir of Echoes) and stars Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Jeff Goldblum and Paul Bettany. The movie follows a debonair art dealer and part time rogue who must traverse the globe in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold. Eric Aronson has written the screenplay. Depp is also producing the OddLot Entertainment production with Gigi Pritzker (Drive, Ender’s Game), Andrew Lazar (Get Smart, Space Cowboys), Christi Dembrowski (Dark Shadows, The Rum Diary) and Patrick McCormick (Peter Pan, Jack the Giant Slayer).
Geoff Zanelli to Score ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’
Geoff Zanelli is attached to score the upcoming fantasy adventure sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The film will be directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki). Johnny Depp is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow. No other casting or plot details have been announced yet. Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, Rush Hour 2) has been hired to write the screenplay. Jerry Bruckheimer (The Rock, National Treasure, Beverly Hills Cop, Armageddon) returns as a producer. Zanelli has previously composed additional music for all four movies in the Pirates in the Caribbean series scored by Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt.

Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro. The film’s original music is composed by Tyler Bates (300, Watchmen). Hollywood Records has released three different soundtracks for the film, including Awesome Mix Vol. 1 feat. the songs from the film and a score album featuring Bates’ music, as well as a deluxe edition featuring both albums. Also opening wide is the biographical drama Get On Up: The James Brown Story directed by Tate Taylor and stars Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Tika Sumpter, Jill Scott and Dan Aykroyd. Polydor/Universal Music has released a soundtrack album featuring studio and standout live versions of numerous soul/funk hits by James Brown as featured in the film. Three new movies opened nationwide this past Wednesday:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy Tammy directed by Ben Falcone and starring Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Allison Janney, Gary Cole, Mark Duplass, Dan Aykroyd, Kathy Bates, Toni Collette and Nat Faxon. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Bridesmaids, The Heat). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as two songs by Possum Creek earlier this week. Also opening wide is the family sci-fi adventure Earth to Echo directed by Dave Green and starring Teo Halm, Brian “Astro” Bradley, Reese Hartwig and Ella Linnea Wahlested. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as the song Worlds Away performed by Dia Frampton. Premiering on Wednesday, December 4, is the new TNT original series Mob City created by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Walking Dead) and starring Jon Bernthal, Ed Burns, Neal McDonough and Jeremy Luke. The drama’s original score is composed by Mark Isham (Once Upon a Time, Crash) who has previously collaborated with Darabont on the features The Majestic and The Mist. The show is based on the real-life accounts of the cops and gangsters of Los Angeles in the 1940s and tells the story of the violent crime underbelly of America’s most glamorous city and those who wanted to control it. Geoff Zanelli to Score Hallmark’s ‘Christmas in Conway’
Geoff Zanelli is scoring the upcoming Hallmark Hall of Fame original movie Christmas in Conway. The film is directed by John Kent Harrison and stars Mary-Louise Parker, Andy Garcia and Mandy Moore. The movie follows a man who builds a Ferris wheel in the backyard of his house as the perfect Christmas present for his wife, as he proposed to her many years ago. Stephen P. Lindsey (Hachi: A Dog’s Tale) and Luis Ugaz have written the script. Brent Shields (Remember Sunday, The Makeover) and Howard Koch Jr. (Source Code, Gorky Park) are executive producing the project. Christmas in Conway will become the 250th presentation of the Hallmark Hall of Fame when it premieres later this year on ABC.
Geoff Zanelli to Score National Geographic Channel’s ‘Killing Kennedy’
Geoff Zanelli has been tapped to score the National Geographic Channel’s upcoming TV event Killing Kennedy. The film is based on the best-selling book by Bill O’Reilly & Martin Dugard and stars Rob Lowe as President Kennedy, Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald, Michelle Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald and Ginnifer Goodwin as Jacqueline Kennedy. The movie follows the events in the lives of both the Kennedy family and the Oswalds, leading up to the assassination of America’s 35th President. Nelson McCormick (Prom Night, The Stepfather) is directing the film and Kelly Masterson (Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead) has adapted the novel for television. Ridley Scott is executive producing the project for Scott Free Productions, alongside David W. Zucker, Mary Listo and Bill O’Reilly.
Film Music Panels at Comic-Con 2013 Announced

The line-up for two film music-related panels at Comic-Con 2013 has been announced. On Thursday, July 18, a number of film directors and composers will participate in the panel The Anatomy of Superhero Film Music: Bringing a Comic Book to Life. Composer Marco Beltrami and director James Mangold (The Wolverine), composer Brian Tyler and director Shane Black (Iron Man 3), composer Matthew Margeson and director Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2), composer Christopher Lennertz (Marvel: Agent Carter) and music supervisor Dave Jordan (The Avengers) will discuss the challenges faced when bringing a comic book character to life and giving that character a voice, working with directors and how they collaborate to convey the story of the character.
