Craft Recordings has announced first-ever picture disc edition of the soundtrack for the 1965 movie musical The Sound of Music directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Peggy Wood, Charmian Carr, Richard Haydn and Eleanor Parker. The collectible 12-inch disc featuring the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein songs is being released to coincide with the film’s 60th anniversary and pairs the iconic 1965 cover art on side A with a whimsical “Lonely Goatherd” image on side B. The soundtrack will be released on September 9 and is now available for preorder on Amazon. The label has previously released a new “super duper” deluxe edition featuring both songs and score as a 4-CD/1-Blu-Ray set and digital album back in 2023.

‘The Sound of Music’ Super Deluxe Edition Soundtrack Album Announced
Craft Recordings will release a new soundtrack album for the 1965 movie musical classic The Sound of Music directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Peggy Wood, Richard Haydn, Charmian Carr and Eleanor Parker. The album features expanded, remastered and remixed music from the film, including both the Rodgers/Hammerstein songs, as well as the movie’s score by Irwin Kostal. The soundtrack, which includes 40 previously unreleased tracks, will be released digitally and physically (as a 4-CD/1-Blu-Ray audio box set, which features the full score in hi-res audio as well as a new Dolby Atmos mix of the original 16-track soundtrack) on December 1, 2023. Premiering on Wednesday, December 4, is the new TNT original series Mob City created by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Walking Dead) and starring Jon Bernthal, Ed Burns, Neal McDonough and Jeremy Luke. The drama’s original score is composed by Mark Isham (Once Upon a Time, Crash) who has previously collaborated with Darabont on the features The Majestic and The Mist. The show is based on the real-life accounts of the cops and gangsters of Los Angeles in the 1940s and tells the story of the violent crime underbelly of America’s most glamorous city and those who wanted to control it. Soundtrack for NBC’s ‘The Sound of Music’ Live Broadcast Announced
Sony Masterworks has announced a soundtrack release for NBC’s live broadcast of the classic stage musical The Sound of Music. The album features the studio recordings of all the musical numbers performed in the live broadcast, including such songs as The Sound of Music, My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and Climb Ev’ry Mountain, all of which are composed by Richard Rodgers and feature lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The soundtrack will be released on December 3, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. NBC’s The Sound of Music is a three-hour live production based on the classic Tony Award-winning musical and stars Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp, Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, Stephen Moyer as Capt. Georg von Trapp, Christian Borle as Max Detweiler and Laura Benanti as Elsa Schrader. The television event is executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Chicago, Hairspray) and will air on December 5 on NBC.
