Gabriel Mann has been hired to score the upcoming CBS comedy Friends With Better Lives. The show is created by Dana Klein (Friends, Becker) and stars Kevin Connolly, Majandra Delfino, James Van Der Beek, Zoe Lister-Jones, Brooklyn Decker and Rick Donald. The series follows six friends at different stages in their lives – married, divorced, newly engaged and single – who are outwardly happy, but secretly questioning if their friends have it better. Klein is also executive producing the 20th Century Fox Television production with Aaron Kaplan (Terra Nova, The Neighbors, Back in the Game). James Burrows (Will & Grace, Friends) has directed the pilot episode. Friends With a Better Lives is set to premiere on March 31, 2014 and will air every Monday night on CBS.

Gabriel Mann to Score The CW’s ‘Star-Crossed’ and NBC’s ‘Welcome to the Family’
Gabriel Mann has been hired to score the upcoming CW drama Star-Crossed. The show is created by Meredith Averill (The Good Wife, Life on Mars) and stars Aimee Teegarden, Matt Lanter, Grey Damon, Natalie Hall, Malese Jow, Titus Makin, Jr., Chelsea Gilligan and Greg Finley. The series chronicles the epic romance between a human girl and an alien boy when he and eight others of his kind are integrated into a suburban high school. Averill is also executive producing the CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television production with Josh Appelbaum & Andre Nemec (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), Scott Rosenberg (October Road) Bryan Furst & Sean Furst (Daybreakers), Daniel Gutman and Richard Shehard (The Matador, The Hunting Party, Ringer).

Premiering tomorrow, June 17 is the HBO documentary Love, Marilyn written and directed by Liz Garbus. The movie visits seminal moments and relationships that shaped Marilyn Monroe’s career and tumultuous personal life and features interviews with Elizabeth Banks, Adrien Brody, Ellen Burstyn, Glenn Close, Hope Davis, Viola Davis, Jennifer Ehle, Ben Foster, Paul Giamatti, Jack Huston, Stephen Lang, Lindsay Lohan, Janet McTeer, Jeremy Piven, Oliver Platt, David Strathairn, Lili Taylor, Uma Thurman, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood. Philip Sheppard (The Tillman Story) who previously scored Garbus’ Bobby Fischer Against the World has composed the film’s original score. Love, Marilyn premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and will air tomorrow night on HBO.
Gabriel Mann Scoring ABC Family’s ‘Twisted’
Gabriel Mann has been tapped to score the upcoming ABC Family mystery drama Twisted. The show is created by Adam Milch and stars Avan Jogia, Maddie Hasson, Kylie Bunbury, Kimberly Quinn, Sam Robards, Ashton Moio and Denise Richards. The series follows a charismatic 16-year-old with a troubled past, who recently reconnected with his two female best friends from childhood and becomes the prime suspect when a fellow student is found dead in her home. Jon Amiel (Entrapment, Sommersby, The Core) has directed the pilot episode. Gavin Polone (Zombieland, Gilmore Girls) and David Babcock are executive producing the project with Milch. Mann has previously scored the Polone-produced ABC Family series Jane by Design.

The show follows a man who is released from Death Row after spending 19 years in prison and returns to his hometown where he must readjust to his new life, including unfamiliar family members and surroundings. Gabriel Mann (Modern Family, Jane by Design) has composed the show’s score, as well as the main titles theme. Gabriel Mann has been hired to score the Sundance Channel’s first hourlong scripted series Rectify. The six-part legal drama stars Abigail Spencer, Clayne Crawford, Adelaide Clements, Jonah Lotan and J. Smith Cameron. The show is created by Ray McKinnon (screenwriter of An Evening Sun and actor in FX’s Sons of Anarchy) and follows a man who is released from Death Row after spending 19 years in prison and returns to his hometown where he must readjust to his new life, including unfamiliar family members and surroundings. Mark Johnson (The Chronicle of Narnia series, Rain Man) and Melissa Bernstein (Breaking Bad) are executive producing the project with McKinnon.
Gabriel Mann to Score NBC’s ‘Bent’ and ABC Family’s ‘Jane by Design’
Gabriel Mann is scoring a couple of new TV shows that are set to premiere in 2012. Among the composer’s new projects is the half-hour comedy Bent. The series is created by Tad Quill (Scrubs, Spin City) and stars Amanda Peet as a recently divorced lawyer and David Walton as an irresponsible contractor and recovering gambling addict who is hired to remodel her kitchen. Jeffrey Tambor, Margo Harshman and Joey King are co-starring. Craig Zisk (Nurse Jackie, Weeds) directed the first two episodes. The Universal Media Studios-produced show is set to premiere as a mid-season replacement this spring on NBC.

In our sixth and final part of our fall television series, we are taking a look at the major new shows on the cable networks:
One of this fall’s most talked about new shows is American Horror Story created by Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk and starring Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga and Denis O’Hare. The series has recently received two Golden Globe nominations for Best TV Drama and for Lange’s performance. The show’s score is composed by James Levine who has worked on most of Murphy’s projects in the last decade, including Nip/Tuck, Glee and the feature film Running with Scissors. The drama has also been using a lot of pre-existing score music from composers such as Bernard Herrmann and Alan Silvestri. Among the new shows on the network is the fantasy teen drama The Secret Circle produced by Kevin Williamson (Scream, The Vampire Diaries) and starring Brittany Robertson, Thomas Dekker, Shelley Hennig, Phoebe Tonkin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Louis Hunter, Natasha Henstridge and Ashley Crow. The composer of the show is John Frizzell (Alien: Resurrection, Dante’s Peak, Office Space) who has worked with Williamson before on the writer’s directorial debut Teaching Mrs. Tingle. The Secret Cirlce has received a full season order and currently airs every Thursday night on the CW.
