Weekly Film Music Roundup (December 18, 2020)

Opening in theaters nationwide today is the fantasy action adventure Monster Hunter written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and stars Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, Diego Boneta, Meagan Good, Jin Au-Yeung, Josh Helman and Ron Perlman. The film’s original music is composed by Paul Haslinger (Underworld, Halt and Catch Fire, The Three Musketeers, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Death Race, Crank). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this month. Also opening wide is the thriller Fatale directed by Deon Taylor and starring Hilary Swank, Michael Ealy, Mike Colter, Danny Pino and Tyrin Turner. Geoff Zanelli (Pirates of the Caribbean:Dead Men Tell No Tales, Disturbia, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Christopher Robin) has composed the film’s original music. ‘Greenland’ Soundtrack Album Details

Varese Sarabande & Music.Film Recordings will release the official soundtrack album for the apocalyptic action drama Greenland. The album features the film’s original music composed by David Buckley (The Good Wife, Angel Has Fallen, Jason Bourne, The Forbidden Kingdom, Papillon, Unhinged). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, September 25 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and other digital music stores. Greenland is directed by Ric Roman Waugh and stars Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roger Dale Floyd, Scott Glenn, David Denman, Hope Davis, Andrew Bachelor and Joshua Mikel. The movie follows a family who fights for survival as a planet-killing comet races to Earth and make a perilous journey to their only hope for sanctuary.

Opening in theaters nationwide today is the psychological thriller Unhinged directed by Derrick Borte and starring Russell Crowe, Caren Pistorius, Gabriel Bateman, Jimmi Simpson and Austin P. McKenzie. The film’s original music is composed by David Buckley (The Good Wife, The Forbidden Kingdom, Angel Has Fallen, Papillon, The Stranger). Sol B Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as Keep Shelly in Athens’ cover of (Don’t Fear) The Reaper. Opening semi-wide in around 900 theaters is the drama Words on Bathroom Walls directed by Thor Freudenthal and starring Charlie Plummer, Taylor Russell, AnnaSophia Robb, Devon Bostick, Beth Grant, Andy Garcia, Molly Parker, Lobo Sebastian and Walton Goggins. The Chainsmokers and Andrew Hollander (Waitress,  Sleepwalk with Me, Gray Matters,  Serious Moonlight) have composed the film’s original music. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as two songs by The Chainsmokers. ‘Unhinged’ Soundtrack Details

Sol B Music will release the official soundtrack album for the psychological thriller Unhinged. The album features the film’s original music composed by David Buckley (The Good Wife, The Forbidden Kingdom, Papillon, Angel Has Fallen, The Stranger). Also included is Keep Shelly in Athens’ cover version of (Don’t Fear) The Reaper. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, July 31 and will be available to stream/download here. Unhinged is directed by Derrick Borte and stars Russell Crowe, Caren Pistorius, Gabriel Bateman, Jimmi Simpson and Austin P. McKenzie. The movie follows a woman who becomes the target of an unstable man’s rage after a confrontation at an intersection.

David Buckley to Score Ilya Naishuller’s ‘Nobody’

David Buckley (The Good Wife, Papillon, Angel Has Fallen, The Forbidden Kingdom, The Stranger) has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller Nobody. The film is directed by Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry) and stars Bob Odenkirk, Gage Munroe, Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd and RZA. The movie revolves around a bystander who intervenes to help a woman being harassed by a group of men becomes the target of a vengeful drug lord. Derek Kolstad (John Wick) wrote the screenplay. Kelly McCormick (Atomic Blonde, How It Ends) and David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) are producing the project for 87North, alongside Braden Aftergood (Siberia) for Eighty Two Films, as well as Odenkirk and Marc Provissiero (PEN15, Paradise PD).

David Buckley to Score Amazon’s ‘The Wheel of Time’

David Buckley (The Good Wife, The Forbidden Kingdom, Papillon, Angel Has Fallen, The Stranger) has been tapped to score the upcoming Amazon original series The Wheel of Time. The show is developed by Rafe Judkins based on Robert Jordan’s fantasy epic of the same name and stars Rosamund Pike, Marcus Rutherford, Josha Stradowski,  Daniel Henney, Madeleine Madden, Zoë Robins, Barney Harris, Priyanka Bose, Taylor Napier and Emmanuel Imani. The fantasy drama follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the ‘Aes Sedai’ as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women.

Premiering on Thursday, January 30, is the Netflix limited series The Stranger created by Harlan Coben and starring Richard Armitage, Siobhan Finneran, Jennifer Saunders, Hannah John-Kamen,  Anthony Head and Stephen Rea. The show’s original music is composed by David Buckley (The Good Wife, The Forbidden Kingdom, Papillon, The Gifted). Check out our previous news article to learn more about the drama. The full series will be available to stream on Thursday exclusively on Netflix.

Premiering on Friday, January 31, is the new Pixar Animation Studios short Lamp Life directed by Valerie LaPointe and featuring the voices of Christina Hendricks, Annie Potts and Jim Hanks. Jake Monaco (Let’s Be Cops, Dumplin’, Forky Asks a Question, Keeping Up with the Joneses) has composed the film’s original music. The short, which explores what exactly happened to Bo Peep between her separation from Woody to the events in Toy Story 4, will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+.

Composer David Buckley (The Good Wife, The Forbidden Kingdom, Papillon, The Gifted) is reteaming with director Ric Roman Waugh on the upcoming thriller Greenland. The film starring Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Scott Glenn, Andrew Bachelor and David Denman centers on one family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster. Chris Sparling (Buried, ATM) wrote the screenplay with revisions by Mitchell LaFortune and Waugh.

Four new movies are opening theaters nationwide this week:

Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi action sequel Terminator: Dark Fate directed by Tim Miller and starring Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna and Diego Boneta. The film’s original music is composed by Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) (Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deadpool, Alita: Battle Angel). Also opening wide is the biographical drama Harriet directed by Kasi Lemmons and starring Cynthia Erivo, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr. and Joe Alwyn. Terence Blanchard (BlacKkKlansman, Malcolm X, Inside Man, The 25th Hour, Red Tails) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score (click here for more information). ‘Arctic Dogs’ Soundtrack Album Announced

Transition Music Corporation (TMC) has announced a soundtrack album for the animated feature Arctic Dogs. The album features the film’s original score composed by David Buckley (The Good Wife, The Forbidden Kingdom, Jason Bourne, The Nice Guys, Evil, Angel Has Fallen). Also included is Rocky Wallace’s Center of Gravity and Jeremy Renner’s original song Believer (both also available as digital singles), as well as four other songs by Renner. The soundtrack is being released digitally today and is now available to stream/download on Amazon. Arctic Dogs is directed by Aaron Woodley and features the voices of Renner, Heidi Klum, James Franco, John Cleese, Omar Sy, Michael Madsen, Laurie Holden, Anjelica Huston, and Alec Baldwin.
