Film Score Monthly has released the world premiere CD release of the nearly complete score for the 1974 horror film It’s Alive written and directed by Larry Cohen and starring John Ryan and Sharon Farrell. The music is composed and conducted by Bernard Herrmann. The album includes almost 45 minutes of the score, as well as two bonus tracks. According to The Playlist, The Chemical Brothers are attached to score the upcoming heist movie Now You See Me. The film is directed by Louis Leterrier and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Melanie Laurent, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Common. The movie follows a group of the world’s greatest illusionists who pull off daring bank heists during their performances. Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans, Fresh) and Edward Ricour have written the screenplay for the Summit Entertainment production. Intrada Records has announced a remastered soundtrack edition for the 1987 horror thriller classic Predator directed by John McTiernan and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The album features the original score from the film by Alan Silvestri. The score has previously received limited editions releases by the label and Varese Sarabande, both of which sold out in record time. Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack release for Universal Pictures’ action tentpole release Battleship. The album includes the original score written by composer Steve Jablonsky (Transformers series). The soundtrack will be released on May 8, 2012. The cover art and track list will be published in a couple of weeks. Check back on this site for an update and audio clips from the score. Battleship is directed by Peter Berg (Hancock, Friday Night Lights) and stars Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, Hamish Linklater and Rihanna. ‘Thin Ice’ Soundtrack Released

Werk Music has released a soundtrack album for the crime thriller Thin Ice. The album includes the original score from the movie composed by Jeff Danna (The Boondock Saints, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Relativity Music Group will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the upcoming family fantasy comedy Mirror Mirror. The album includes the original score from the film composed by eigth-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken, as well as the original song I Believe in Love performed by the movie’s lead actress Lily Collins. The album will be released on March 27, 2012 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Sony Classical is releasing the soundtrack digitally overseas later this week on March 9. Robert B. Sherman (1925 – 2012)

Robert B. Sherman passed away yesterday in London at age 86. The songwriter was born on December 19, 1925 in New York City. Together with his brother Richard, he has written countless classic songs for movie musicals. He received two Academy Awards for the Disney classic Mary Poppins, both for the score and the song Chim Chim Cheer-ee. The Sherman Brothers’ other Oscar-nominated songs include The Age of Not Believing from 1971’s Bednobs and Broomsticks, The Slipper and the Rose Waltz from The Slipper and the Rose: The Story of Cinderella and When You’re Loved for 1978’s The Magic of Lassie. They also shared an Academy Award nomination with John Williams for the score for 1973’s Tom Sawyer. Among Sherman’s other best known credits are the Disney animated classics The Jungle Book, The Aristocats and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and the musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as well as the theme park song It’s a Small World (After All). Over his career, he also earned five Golden Globe nominations, two Grammy Awards and four Grammy Award nominations.

Alex Heffes to Score ‘AWOL’

Alex Heffes has been tapped to score the upcoming Vietnam War-set drama AWOL. The film marks the directorial debut of Danny Mooney and stars Liam Hemsworth, Teresa Palmer, Austin Stowell, Aimee Teegarden, Chris Howell and Max Adler. The movie is based on the true story about a young soldier in Vietnam who is dumped by his hometown girlfriend and – together with his best friend – returns to the States to win her back. Jim Burnstein (Renaissance Man) and Garrett Schiff have written the screenplay and also serve as executive producers. Varese Sarabande Records has announced two new limited soundtrack editions. First up is a soundtrack album for the thriller Columbus Circle. The album includes the film’s original score composed by Brian Tyler who is also among the executive producers of the film. The soundtrack is available to order on Varese’s website, where you can also listen to audio clips. Columbus Circle is directed by George Gallo and stars Selma Blair, Amy Smart, Jason Lee, Giovanni Ribisi, Kevin Pollak and Beau Bridges. Jeff Beal Scoring ‘GCB’

Jeff Beal is scoring the new ABC comedy drama GCB (previously entitled Good Christian Belles). The show created by Robert Harling (Steel Magnolia, The First Wives Club) is based on Kim Gatlin’s book Good Christian Bitches and centers on a recently divorced mother of two who moves back to the affluent Dallas neighborhood where she grew up to find herself in the whirling midst of salacious gossip, Botox, and fraud. The series’ cast includes Leslie Bibb (Iron Man, Popular), Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies), Marisol Nichols (24), as well as Mark Deklin, Miriam Schor, Jennifer Aspen, Annie Potts, David James Elliott and Brad Beyer. Darren Starr (Sex and the City) is executive producing the show with Harling, Gretchen J. Berg, Aaron Harberts, Aaron Kaplan and Alan Poul (The Back-up Plan) who also directed the pilot episode.
