Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe are scoring the upcoming NBC event mini-series A.D.. The 12-parter is the sequel to last year’s History series The Bible and starts with the Crucifixion and The Resurrection and chronicles the events that follow. The show’s cast includes Juan Pablo di Pace, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Aniss Elkohen, Richard Coyle, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Cesare Taurasi and Adam Levy. Simon Block (Inspector Lewis) has written the scripts. Mark Burnett (Survivor, Shark Tank) and Roma Downey are executive producing the project with Richard Bedser. Zimmer and Balfe have previously scored last year’s History original The Bible for the producers, as well as the theatrical version Son of God.

‘Les Miserables’ Soundtrack Deluxe Edition Details
The track list for the deluxe edition of the soundtrack for Tom Hooper’s hit movie musical Les Miserables has been revealed. The album features all songs from the film composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg and with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil performed by the movie’s cast including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, Colm Wilkinson, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter. The soundtrack will be released on March 19, 2013 by Republic Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring highlights from the music from the film. Les Miserables received three Academy Awards this past Sunday for Hathaway’s supporting performance, Best Makeup and Sound Mixing. The movie is now playing in theaters worldwide and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in the US on March 22.
SCL Hosts Annual Oscar Nominees Reception
This afternoon, the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual reception honoring the Academy Award-nominated composers and songwriters in the Best Original Score and Best Original Song category at the home of composer John Cacavas in Beverly Hills. All five nominated composers in the score category attended the event: John Williams (Lincoln), Dario Marianelli (Anna Karenina), Alexandre Desplat (Argo), Mychael Danna (Life of Pi) and Thomas Newman (Skyfall). Among the attendants in the Best Original Song category were J. Ralph (nominated for the song Before My Time from Chasing Ice), Claude-Michel Schonberg, Herbert Kretzmer & Alain Boublil (nominated for the original song Suddenly from Les Miserables), Mychael Danna and Bombay Jayashri (who received a nomination for Pi’s Lullaby from Life of Pi), Walter Murphy (nominated for the song Everybody Needs a Best Friend from Ted with Seth MacFarlane) and Paul Epworth (nominated for the title song of Skyfall with Adele).

Three new movies have opened nationwide earlier this week on Christmas Day:
Topping the box office on Christmas Day was the movie musical Les Miserables directed by Tom Hooper and starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, Colm Wilkinson, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen. Universal Republic has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg, with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and produced and arranged by Anne Dudley. Also performing well in wide release is the western Django Unchained written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz. Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson. Loma Vista Recording has released a soundtrack album featuring a couple of new original tracks, including 100 Black Coffins by Rick Ross and produced by and featuring Jamie Foxx, Who Did That To You? by John Legend, Ancora Qui by Ennio Morricone and Elisa, and the duet Freedom performed by Anthony Hamilton and Elayna Boynton. The film is helmed by Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) and stars Hugh Jackman in the lead role of Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Eddie Redmayne as Marius and Helena Bonham Carter & Sacha Baron Cohen as Mr. and Mrs. Thernardier. Williams Nicholson (Gladiator, First Knight) has written the screenplay with Schonberg and Alain Boubill based on the novel by Victor Hugo.
