Chris Alan Lee has been tapped to score the upcoming BET original series The First Wives Club. The show is developed by Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip, The Sun Is Also a Star) based on the 1996 feature of the same title and stars Ryan Michelle Bathe, Jill Scott and Michelle Buteau. The comedy revolves around three women who band together after their marriages fall apart and find strength in their sisterhood — and of course a little revenge. Ben Decter is composing the original score for the new ABC comedy Bless This Mess. The show is created by Lake Bell (In a World…) & Elizabeth Meriwether (New Girl, Single Parents) and stars Bell herself, alongside Dax Shepard, Ed Begley Jr., Pam Grier and JT Neal. The series follows two newlyweds as they make the decision to move from big city New York to rural Nebraska and must learn how to weather the storm as they are faced with unexpected challenges in their new life as farmers. Four new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Missing Link written and directed by Chris Butler and starring Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Zach Galifianakis, Timothy Olyphant, Emma Thompson, David Walliams, Stephen Fry and Matt Lucas. Carter Burwell (CarolFargoTwilightThree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) has composed the film’s original score. Also opening wide is the new film adaptation of Hellboy directed by Neil Marshall and starring David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim and Penelope Mitchell. The film’s original music is composed by  Benjamin Wallfisch (ItShazam!Blade Runner 2049Hidden Figures). Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the biographical drama Tolkien. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Thomas Newman (American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, Skyfall, Wall-E). The soundtrack will be released on May 3 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon (CD version) and here (digital version). Tolkien is directed by Dome Karukoski and stars Nicholas Hoult, Lily Collins, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts and Colm Meaney. The movie explores the formative years of the renowned author’s life as he finds friendship, courage and inspiration among a fellow group of writers and artists at school. Varese Sarabande has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1980s cult NBC series Knight Rider created by Glen A. Larson and starring David Hasselhoff, Edward Mulhare, Patricia McPherson, Rebecca Holden and Peter Parros. The soundtrack selections of the show’s original score composed by Stu Phillips (Battlestar Galactica, Quincy, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century), including the content of the 2005 soundtrack release for the series on the first disc, and previously unreleased music on the second disc. The 2-CD set is limited to 2,000 copies and is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out the full track list and listen to audio samples. A vinyl edition will be coming out tomorrow on Record Store Day.

Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album for the Disney Channel animated series Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. The album features the original songs from the show written by Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid) and Glenn Slater (Galavant, UglyDolls) and performed by cast members Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Eden Espinosa, Jeff Ross, James Monroe Iglehart and Fred Tatasciore. Also included are three tracks from the show’s original score composed by Kevin Kliesch (Sofia the First, Thundercats). Variety is reporting that DJ Quik is set score the upcoming indie drama John Henry. The film is co-written and directed by Will Forbes and stars Terry Crews, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jamila Velazquez, Kimberly Hebert Gregory, J.J. Soria and Ken Foree. The movie follows the title character as he crosses paths with two immigrant kids who are running from the leader of his former gang and is forced to confront the violence of his past life in hopes of saving them. The album features the songs from the special final episode of the series performed by cast members Rachel Bloom, Donna Lynne Champlin, Pete Gardner, David Hull, Scott Michael Foster and Skylar Astin. Miles of Lions Records will release the official soundtrack album for the supernatural drama Fast Color. The album features the film’s original music composed by Rob Simonsen (Love, Simon, Nerve, (500) Days of Summer, Foxcatcher, The Spectacular Now, The Upside). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 19 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Fast Color is co-written and directed by Julia Hart and stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Lorraine Toussaint, Saniyya Sidney, Christopher Denham and David Strathairn. The movie tells the story of a woman forced to go on the run when her superhuman abilities are discovered but, years after abandoning her family, the only place she has left to hide is home. BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) announced today that film composer and celebrated jazz musician Terence Blanchard will be named a BMI Icon at the 35th annual BMI Film, TV & Visual Media Awards in recognition of his significant contributions to the cinematic community. The composer whose film scoring credits include Malcolm X, Inside Man, 25th Hour and Red Tails has received his first Academy Award nomination earlier this year for his music for Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman. Past BMI Icon honorees include Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, Alexandre Desplat, Rachel Portman, David Newman, Thomas Newman, Danny Elfman, Harry Gregson-Williams and John Williams, among many others.
