Kris Bowers (Green Book, Dear White People, Monsters and Men) has been tapped to score the upcoming Netflix limited series When They See Us. The show is created and directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma, A Wrinkle in Time, 13th) and stars Michael K. Williams, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Niecy Nash, Blair Underwood, Christopher Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Omar J. Dorsey, Adepero Oduye, Famke Janssen, Aurora Perrineau, William Sadler, Jharrel Jerome and Jovan Adepo. The drama chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit.

‘Monsters and Men’ Soundtrack Released
Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the indie drama Monsters and Men. The album features the film’s original music composed by Kris Bowers (Green Book, Dear White People, For the People, Black Monday). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Monsters and Men is written and directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and stars John David Washington, Anthony Ramos and Kelvin Harrison Jr. The movie follows a young father who witnesses the police shooting of an unarmed black man. The drama, which was released in theaters last fall by Neon, is now available on VOD, Blu-ray and DVD.

Premiering on Thursday, January 24, is the Netflix docu-series Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes directed by Joe Berlinger about serial killer Ted Bundy. Justin Melland (Dark Net, The Force, Wrong Man) has composed the original music for the show, which features present-day interviews, archival footage and audio recordings made on death row. The full series will be available to stream on Thursday exclusively on Netflix.
‘Green Book’ Score Ruled Ineligible for Academy Awards
THR is reporting that the music branch of the Academy Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has ruled the original score for Peter Farrelly’s comedy drama Green Book ineligible in the Best Original Score category for next year’s Academy Awards. The Academy is citing its rule that states that a score “shall not be eligible if it has been diluted by the use of pre-existing music, or it has been diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs or any music not composed specifically for the film by the submitting composer”. Kris Bowers (Dear White People, For the People) has composed the score for the film, which features several musical performances by the The Don Shirley Trio (led by Mahershala Ali who portrays pianist Shirley in the movie), as well some period songs.
Showtime’s ‘Black Monday’ to Feature Music by Kris Bowers
Kris Bowers (Green Book, Dear White People, Of Monsters and Men) has been tapped to score the upcoming Showtime original series Black Monday. The show is created by David Caspe (Happy Endings, That’s My Boy) & Jordan Cahan (My Best Friend’s Girl) and stars Don Cheadle, Andrew Rannells, Regina Hall, Paul Scheer, Yassir Lester, Michael James Scott and Eugene Cordero. The drama tells the story of how a group of outsiders took on the blue-blood, old-boys club of Wall Street and ended up crashing the world’s largest financial system, a Lamborghini limousine and the glass ceiling.

Also included are the songs from the movie by The Blue Jays, Timmy Shaw, The Blackwells, Jack’s Four, Bob Kelly & others, as well as the performances of The Don Shirley Trio as featured in the film. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. A CD version is set to come out on December 7 and is available to order here and a vinyl version is also in the works. Green Book is co-written and directed by Peter Farrelly and stars Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali, Linda Cardellini, Sebastian Maniscalco, Dimiter D. Marinov and P.J. Byrne.

Kris Bowers is scoring the upcoming drama Green Book. The film is directed by Peter Farrelly (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Me, Myself & Irene) and stars Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali and Linda Cardellini. The movie is set in 1962 and tells the true story of the growing friendship between Tony Lip, a nightclub bouncer who’s been hired to chauffeur the highly-educated African-American piano-playing prodigy Dr. Don Shirley through the Deep South on a concert tour.
