Henry Jackman is set to reunite with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on the upcoming comedy The Interview. Rogen is also starring in film alongside James Franco and Lizzy Caplan. The movie centers on a talk show host and his producer who find themselves out of their depths when they participate in a plot to assassinate the North Korean prime minister. Rogen and Goldberg have also written the screenplay and are producing the project with James Weaver (Neighbors) for Point Grey Pictures. Jackman has previously collaborated with Rogen and Goldberg on their directorial debut This Is the End, which grossed over $100 Mio. domestically last summer.

Weekly TV Music Roundup (December 29, 2013)
This past Tuesday, the animated series Turbo FAST premiered on Netflix. The show based on this summer’s animated feature from DreamWorks Animation is produced by Ben Kalina & Jennifer Ray and executive produced by Chris Prynoski and featuring the voices of Reid Scott and Ken Jeong who reprises his role from the feature film. Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph) and Halli Cauthery (The East) have written the show’s original score. Jackman previously the feature version of Turbo and Cauthery provided additional music. Visit Netflix to stream the series and visit the official show website to learn more about the project.
Awards Contenders in Conversation
The Hollywood Reporter published its yearly roundtable conversation with a number of film composers in contention for the major awards. This year’s participating composers include Hans Zimmer (Rush, 12 Years a Slave), Thomas Newman (Saving Mr. Banks), Alan Silvestri (The Croods), Steven Price (Gravity), Christophe Beck (Frozen) and Henry Jackman (Captain Phillips). The composers talk about the biggest musical challenges on their films this year, their own personal favorite scores of their career and whether they look at box office numbers of the movies they scored. Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the docudrama Captain Phillips directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, United 93) and starring Tom Hanks, Catherine Keener, Barkhad Abdi, Barkhad Abdirahman, Faysal Ahmed, Mahat M. Ali, Michael Chernus, Corey Johnson and Max Martini. The film’s music is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album for the film featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the action sequel Machete Kills written and directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir and Mel Gibson. The film’s music is composed by Rodriguez himself and Carl Thiel (Grindhouse: Planet Terror, Shorts). Morada Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as an original end title track by Tito & Tarantula (From Dusk Till Dawn) and two tracks by Chingon. ‘Captain Phillips’ Soundtrack Announced
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the dramatic thriller Captain Phillips. The album features the film’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class). The soundtrack will be released on October 15, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Captain Phillips is directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, United 93) and stars Tom Hanks in the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. Catherine Keener is co-starring in the film, which will be released nationwide on October 11 by Sony Pictures.

‘Kick-Ass 2’ Score Album Details
The details of the score album for the superhero action comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2 have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck It Ralph, X-Men: First Class) and Matthew Margeson (Transformers Prime, Skyline). The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 13, 2013. A physical deluxe extended edition including additional tracks not included on the digital version will be released on August 20 by La-La Land Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Opening in most theaters is DreamWorks Animation’s latest feature Turbo is directed by David Soren and featuring the voice talent of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson. The film’s original score is composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck-It-Ralph, X-Men: First Class). Relativity Music Group has released three different soundtrack editions for the film: a regular edition featuring the songs from the film, as well as selections of Jackman’s music, a deluxe edition featuring more score and a score-only album.
Expected to top the weekend box office is the horror thriller The Conjuring directed by James Wan and starring Lili Taylor, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver and Sterling Jerins. Joseph Bishara (Insidious, Dark Skies) has composed the film’s score. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as the film’s “family theme”composed by Mark Isham. Relativity Music Group will release a score album for Dreamworks Animation’s feature Turbo. The album features the film’s original score composed by Henry Jackman (Wreck-It-Ralph, Puss in Boots). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 23, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. As previously reported, the label will also release a regular edition soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs and selections of the score, as well as a deluxe edition including additional score tracks. Turbo is directed by David Soren and features the voices of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Ramin Djawadi, Aaron Zigman, Cliff Martinez, J. Ralph, Joe Hisaishi and Henry Jackman Invited to Join the Academy
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 276 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Among the invited artists this year are a number of film composers including Ramin Djawadi whose credits include Iron Man, Clash of the Titans, Safe House and the upcoming Pacific Rim, Cliff Martinez whose film projects include Contagion, Drive and Best Picture nominee Traffic, Joe Hisaishi who scored the Academy Award-winning animated film Spirited Away, Aaron Zigman who is best known for his work on such films as The Notebook, Sex and the City and Bridge to Terabithia, Henry Jackman who scored this year’s Best Animated Film nominee Wreck-It-Ralph and J. Ralph who was nominated for Best Original Song this year for his work on Chasing Ice. In addition, Prince whose work for film includes Purple Rain and Happy Feet was also invited, as well as Siedah Garrett who performed last year’s Oscar nominated song Real in Rio from Rio.
