This past Saturday night, film music record label Varèse Sarabande hosted their 35th Anniversary Halloween Concert Gala at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, California. The concert was hosted and produced by Robert Townson and performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) and Chorale. Highlights included a suite from the comic book film adaptation of Ghost Rider, which Golden Globe-nominated composer Christopher Young (The Shipping News, Spider-Man 3) arranged specifically for the concert and which featured a full orchestra, chorus and a heavy metal band led by Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. The performance was received with a standing ovation by the audience. Additionally, Oscar nominee Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, World War Z) made his concert conducting debut with a suite of his scores for Alex Proyas’ I, Robot and Knowing, as well as Guillermo del Toro’s Mimic and Hellboy.

Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in the US and select international territories is the sci-fi action monster movie Pacific Rim directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi and Ron Perlman. The film’s music is composed by Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Game of Thrones, Clash of the Titans). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, which also features former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello and singer Priscilla as soloists. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Grown Ups 2 directed by Dennis Dugan and starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello and Nick Swardson. The film’s original score is composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams (Over the Hedge, Click, Bee Movie) who previously scored the 2010 original film. No soundtrack album has been announced. Henry Mancini’s ‘Condorman’ and Christopher Young’s ‘Hush’ Scores Released
Intrada Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for Disney’s 1981 superhero film Condorman directed by Charles Jarrott and starring Michael Crawford, Oliver Reed and Barbara Carrera. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Henry Mancini (The Pink Panther, Breakfast at Tiffanys). Included is the complete score, as well as several extras. One of the most talked about and ambitious film of the season is the epic adventure drama Cloud Atlas directed by Tom Tykwer and Andy & Lana Wachowski and starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant. The film’s music is composed by Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score earlier this week. Jeff Danna and Akira Yamaoka who preciously scored the first installment in the series have written the music for the film. ‘Sinister’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details for the soundtrack album for the horror thriller Sinister. The album features the film’s original music composed by Christopher Young (Hellraiser, Spider–Man 3, The Shipping News). Varese Sarabande to Release Christopher Young’s ‘Sinister’ Soundtrack
Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack album for the horror thriller Sinister. The album features the film’s original score composed by Christopher Young (Hellraiser, The Grudge). The soundtrack will be released physically on October 16, 2012 and is now available on Amazon. The full soundtrack details and audio clips will be posted on this site within the next couple of weeks. Sinister is directed by Scott Derrickson who previously worked with Young on The Exorcism of Emily Rose and stars Ethan Hawke as a journalist who moves his family into a house where another family was murdered and discovers film footage revealing what happened before the tragedy occured. The movie will be released nationwide on October 12 by Summit Entertainment.
‘The Tall Man’ Soundtrack Released
MovieScore Media’s Screamworks Records has released a soundtrack album for the mystery thriller The Tall Man. The album features the film’s original music composed by Todd Bryanton, Joel Douek and Golden Globe-nominated composer Christopher Young (The Shipping News, Spider-Man 3). The soundtrack has been released today and is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also check out audio clips from the score. The Tall Man is written and directed by Pascal Laugier and stars Jessica Biel, Jodelle Ferland, Stephen McHattie and William B. Davis. The movie is set in a mining town where children are vanishing without a trace and are thought of being abducted by a mysterious entity known locally as “The Tall Man.” The thriller opened in US theaters on August 31 and is also available on Video on Demand.
Expanded ‘Speed’ Soundtrack by Mark Mancina Released
La-La Land Records has released a new soundtrack edition for the 1994 action hit film Speed directed by Jan De Bont and starring Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock and Dennis Hopper. The album includes the remastered and expanded score composed by Mark Mancina (Training Day, Con Air). The release presents its tracks in film order and includes the end titles song Speed performed by Billy Idol. Christopher Young to Score ‘Killing Season’
Christopher Young has revealed in a recent interview with 123 Film Easy that he is attached to score the upcoming action thriller Killing Season. The movie reunites the composer with director Mark Steven Johnson. They have previously collaborated on the comic book adaptation Ghost Rider and the Kristen Bell-starring romantic comedy When in Rome. Killing Season stars Robert De Niro as an American military veteran who has retreated to a remote cabin in the Appalachian Mountains, where he strikes up an unlikely friendship with a European tourist, played by John Travolta, who turns out to be a former Serbian soldier looking for revenge. Even Daughtery (Snow White and the Huntsman) has written the screenplay for the Millennium Films and Corsan Picture production.
