Music Box Records has released a soundtrack album for the French comedy drama Hugo (Victor comme tout le monde). The album features the film’s original score composed by Alexei Aigui (I Am Not Your Negro, The Truth, The Young Karl Marx, Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5, Test, Wild Field, Exterminate All the Brutes). Hugo is directed by Pascal Bonitzer, written by Sophie Fillières and stars Fabrice Luchini, Chiara Mastroianni, Marie Narbonne, Louise Orry Diquero, Suzanne de Baecque, Iris Bry, Sarah Touffic Othman Schmitt, Naidra Ayadi, Agnès Sourdillon, Yannick Choirat and David Ayala. The movie follows an actor as he is preparing a one-man show about French novelist and poet Victor Hugo, when he’s reconnected with his estranged daughter.

Songs from Raoul Peck’s ‘Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5’ Released
Music Box Records has released a digital single featuring the songs from the documentary Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5. The 2-track single includes Goutte de miel & What Do You Prefer? written by the film’s composer Alexei Aigui (The Truth, I Am Not Your Negro, Wild Field, The Young Karl Marx, Exterminate All the Brutes) and performed by Mina Agossi and is now available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. ‘Maigret and the Dead Lover’ Soundtrack Released

A CD version featuring Aigui’s score from Maigret and two other titles will be released in the coming weeks. Maigret and the Dead Lover is directed by Pascal Bonitzer and stars Denis Podalydès, Anne Alvaro, Manuel Guillot, Irène Jacob, Micha Lescot, Dominique Reymond, Olivier Rabourdin and Laurent Poitrenaux. The movie based on Georges Simenon’s novel Maigret et les vieillards follows Inspector Jules Maigret as he investigates the murder of a former ambassador.

Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5 is directed by Raoul Peck who interweaves clips, readings from author George Orwell’s diary, cinematic references, and modern-day footage to craft not only a portrait of the writer, but a fresh take on how prophetic his work has become.
‘Ernest Cole: Lost & Found’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Music Box Records has announced a soundtrack album for the documentary Ernest Cole: Lost & Found. The album features the film’s original music composed by Alexei Aigui (I Am Not Your Negro, The Young Karl Marx, Exterminate All the Brutes, Wild Field, The Truth, Silver Dollar Road). Also included are the composer’s scores from Peck’s Murder in Pacot and Moloch Tropical (with some previously unreleased tracks). The CD is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also learn more about the release. A first track (Harlem) from Aigui’s Ernest Cole score has already been released as a digital single last month and can be checked out below and a digital version of the album will be coming out this Friday, June 6 (visit Amazon to stream/download). Ernest Cole: Lost & Found is directed by Raoul Peck, narrated by LaKeith Stanfield and chronicles the life of Ernest Cole whose photographs of apartheid-era South Africa and the U.S. in the 1960’s revealed countries vastly different, yet eerily similar.

The album features the film’s original music composed by Alexei Aigui (I Am Not Your Negro, The Truth, The Young Karl Marx, Wild Field, Exterminate All the Brutes, Silver Dollar Road). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, April 26 (visit Amazon or any other major digital music services to stream/download). A CD version, which also includes Aigui’s scores from Je pense à vous, Le Grand Alibi and Cherchez Hortense, is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples. Auction is written and directed by Pascal Bonitzer and stars Alex Lutz, Léa Drucker, Nora Hamzawi, Arcadi Radeff, Louise Chevillotte, Laurence Côte and Matthieu Lucci. The movie follows a modern art appraiser who works for an auction house whose routine is unexpectedly disrupted by the discovery of a long-lost work by Egon Schiele.

Titles included on the CD include the composer’s scores from Aleksandr Kott’s 2022 animated adventure The Adventures of Chuck and Huck, last year’s horror film Domovoy, Sergey Mokritskiy’s 2022 historical drama First Oscar, Yuri Zeltser’s 2017 feature Our Little Secret, Marie Surae’s 2021 drama The Anger, Nurbek Egen’s 2005 comedy drama The Wedding Chest and Nikita Vladimirov’s 2022 sci-fi comedy I’m on Rewind. Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the French drama Anatomy of a Fall (Anatomie d’une chute) co-written and directed by Justine Triet and starring Sandra Hüller, Swann Arlaud and Milo Machado Graner. The film doesn’t feature an original score and no soundtrack release is expected. The movie, which tells the story of an author who trying to prove her innocence in her husband’s death, premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Palme d’Or, and is being released by Neon.
Opening in New York today before expanding to more markets in the coming weeeks is the sci-fi thriller Divinity written and directed by Eddie Alcazar and stars Stephen Dorff, Moises Arias, Bella Thorne, Jason Genao, Scott Bakula and Karrueche Tran. The film’s original music is composed by DJ Muggs (of Cypress Hill) & Dean Hurley (Looks That Kill). Sacred Bones Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the artists’ score today. Alexei Aigui Scoring Raoul Peck’s ‘Silver Dollar Road’
Alexei Aigui (The Truth, Wild Field, Test) has recently been scoring the upcoming documentary Silver Dollar Road. The film is directed by Raoul Peck and centers on a Black family in North Carolina who battles decades of harassment by land developers trying to seize their waterfront property. The movie draws upon the in-depth reporting of Lizzie Presser, published by ProPublica and The New Yorker.

Premiering in the U.S. today is the Norwegian mini-series Atlantic Crossing written by Alexander Eik & Linda May Kallestein, directed by Eik and starring Sofia Helin, Kyle MacLachlan and Tobias Santelmann. The show’s original music is composed by Raymond Enoksen (Haunted, Ice Road Rescue). Dreamscore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last year when the 8-part drama premiered overseas. Also premiering tonight is the Fox TV special Malika the Lion Queen directed by Karin Slater and narrated by Angela Bassett. Jasha Klebe (Planet Earth II, The Black Godfather, Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom, Medal of Honor, Challenger Disaster: Lost Tapes) has composed the original music for the special. The documentary, which follows a powerful pride of lions in South Africa’s Kruger National Park and explores the exhilarating and harrowing life of lioness Malika, will air on Fox tonight.
