Music Box Records has released a soundtrack album for the French comedy drama Hugo (Victor comme tout le monde). The album features the film’s original score composed by Alexei Aigui (I Am Not Your Negro, The Truth, The Young Karl Marx, Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5, Test, Wild Field, Exterminate All the Brutes). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here, where you can also check out the track list. Also listen to the composer’s title track. The label is also releasing a CD version, which also includes Aigui’s music from Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5 & Maigret and the Dead Lover (visit the label’s official website for more information). Hugo is directed by Pascal Bonitzer, written by Sophie Fillières and stars Fabrice Luchini, Chiara Mastroianni, Marie Narbonne, Louise Orry Diquero, Suzanne de Baecque, Iris Bry, Sarah Touffic Othman Schmitt, Naidra Ayadi, Agnès Sourdillon, Yannick Choirat and David Ayala. The movie follows an actor as he is preparing a one-man show about French novelist and poet Victor Hugo, when he’s reconnected with his estranged daughter.

‘Hugo’ Wins Cinema Audio Society Awards
The team behind the sound mixing of Martin Scorsese’s Hugo has won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing at 48th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards at Saturday night’s awards ceremony at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. For the first time, scoring mixers have been included in the awards. Scoring mixer Simon Rhodes, along with production mixer John Midgley and re-recording mixer Tom Fleischman have received the award for Hugo. The other contenders in the category were Hanna (including scoring mixer Andrew Dudman), Moneyball (including scoring mixer Brad Haehnel), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (including scoring mixer Alan Meyerson) and Super 8 (including scoring mixer Dan Wallin).
Palm Springs Film Festival to Honor Howard Shore
Howard Shore will be honored with the Frederick Loewe Music Award at the 23rd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. The composer will be receiving the award for his work on Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, for which he already received a Golden Globe, as well as a Broadcast Film Critics Association Movie Award nomination. Shore has previously won the prize in 2005 for his score for Scorsese’s The Aviator. The composer will be be recognized at a gala on January 7, 2012 at the Palm Springs Convention Center along with other honorees George Clooney, Glenn Close, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Octavia Spencer, Jessica Chastain, Michelle Williams and directors Stephen Daldry and Michel Hazanavicius.

Three new movies opened in wide release this past Wednesday:
The film released in most theaters this Thanksgiving weekend is the new movie adaptation of The Muppets directed by James Bobin and starring Amy Adams, Jason Segel and Chris Cooper. The film’s score is written by Christophe Beck and Bret McKenzie serves as the project’s music supervisor and has also written several songs for the movie. The details of the soundtrack release for Martin Scorsese’s Hugo have been revealed. Howard Shore to Collaborate with Metric on David Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis’
Metric have announced on their official website that they are teaming up with composer Howard Shore on the score for the drama Cosmopolis. As previously reported, Shore is scoring the movie directed by David Cronenberg and starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel and Samantha Morton. The film centers on a multimillionaire who risks his fortune to bet against the yen on a cataclysmic day. Metric have previously collaborated with Shore on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, for which they co-wrote the end titles song Eclipse (All Yours). Cosmopolis has recently entered post-production and is expected to be released in 2012.

The credits on the official movie website of Martin Scorsese’s upcoming drama Hugo reveal that a soundtrack album for the movie will be released on Howard Shore‘s own label Howe Records. According to The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films, Shore’s music will be recorded later this year. Scorsese has previously worked with the composer on a number of films including The Aviator, The Departed, The Gangs of New York and After Hours. More details on the soundtrack album are expected to be announced within the next few months. Hugo is set in 1930s Paris and centers on a 12-year-old orphan who lives in a train station and must finish what his late father started by solving the mystery of a broken robotstars .
