Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the action thriller Safe House directed by Daniel Espinosa and starring Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, Vera Farmiga, Liam Cunningham, Brendan Gleeson, Robert Patrick and Sam Shepard. The film’s score is written by Ramin Djawadi. Varese Sarabande Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide this week is the romantic drama The Vow directed by Michael Sucsy and starring Rachel McAdams, Channing Tatum, Sam Neill, Scott Speedman, Wendy Crewson and Jessica Lange. Rachel Portman and Michael Brook have composed the film’s score, which has been released by Madison Gate Records earlier this week. For the full details, click here. ‘Rampart’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records has announced the soundtrack details for the cop drama Rampart. The album includes four tracks from the film’s original score composed by Dickon Hinchliffe (Winter’s Bone, Last Chance Harvey), as well as the movie’s songs by artists including Billy Huff, Control Machete, Gonzales & Zuninga, Molotov, EB Black, Delinquent Habits, Gang Gang Dance and Leonard Cohen. The album will be released digitally on January 24, 2012 and the CD version is set for a February 7 release and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Rampart based on a story by James Ellroy is directed by Over Moverman and stars Woody Harrelson, Ben Foster, Steve Buscemi, Ice Cube, Sigourney Weaver, Anne Heche, Cynthia Nixon and Robin Wright.

Three new movies opened in wide release this past Wednesday:

The film released in most theaters this Thanksgiving weekend is the new movie adaptation of The Muppets directed by James Bobin and starring Amy Adams, Jason Segel and Chris Cooper. The film’s score is written by Christophe Beck and Bret McKenzie serves as the project’s music supervisor and has also written several songs for the movie. A soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film has been released on Walt Disney Records. To find out more about the album, visit out our previous article. Also opening wide is the family movie Hugo directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz, Sascha Baron Cohen, Jude Law, Emily Mortimer, Ben Kingsley, Ray Winstone and Christopher Lee. Howard Shore has composed the music for the film. A soundtrack album including the composer’s score has been released on his own label Howe Records last Tuesday. Dickon Hinchliffe to Score Oren Moverman’s ‘Rampart’

Dickon Hinchliffe is scoring the upcoming crime drama Rampart. The movie based on a story by James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential, The Black Dahlia) is directed by Oren Moverman (The Messenger) who also co-wrote the script with Ellroy. The film centers on the widespread corruption in the anti-gang unit of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Rampart Division in the late 1990’s. Woody Harrelson stars as an LAPD officer on a redemptive journey as he finds himself embroiled in the scandal. Ben Foster, Steve Buscemi, Ice Cube, Sigourney Weaver, Anne Heche, Cynthia Nixon and Robin Wright are co-starring.
