Saturn Awards Nominations Announced

saturn-awardsThe Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films has announced the nominations for this year’s Saturn Awards. The winners will be announced at the 41st Annual Saturn Awards ceremony on June 25.

Here are the nominees in the Best Film Music category:

  • Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – Michael Giacchino
  • Godzilla – Alexandre Desplat
  • The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – Howard Shore

chappieThe details of the soundtrack album for Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi thriller Chappie have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Hans Zimmer (GladiatorInceptionThe Dark KnightThe Lion KingInterstellar) and additional music by Steve Mazzaro & Andrew Kawczynski. The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 10, 2015 and physically on March 17 by Varese Sarabande. To pre-order the album, visit Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Chappie co-written and directed by Blomkamp (District 9Elysium)  stars Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver, as well as Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie. hotel-transylvaniaMark Mothersbaugh has signed on to score the upcoming animated feature Hotel Transylvania 2. The film is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky who previously helmed the first installment and features the voice talent of Adam Sandler, Mel Brooks, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, Molly Shannon, Jon Lovitz, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Fran Drescher and Cee-Lo Green. The movie follows Dracula’s very old and grumpy vampire father Vlad who turns up at the hotel for an impromptu family get-togethe Robert Smigel (You Don’t Mess with the Zohan) has written the screenplay. ratatouilleThe 21st Century Symphony Orchestra has announced two new concerts of its 2015/2016 season, including a performance of the Academy Award-nominated original score for Pixar’s animated feature Ratatouille performed live to projection. Michael Giacchino who previously worked together with the orchestra on several other events, including a live performances of both his Star Trek scores, has composed the film’s music, for which he received his first Oscar nomination. Two concerts will be held on November 14 & 15 at the KKL Luzern Concert Hall in Lucerne, Switzerland. Click here to order tickets. The KKL Luzern Concert Hall will also host the world premiere performance of a live to projection concert of the music for Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark starring Harrison Ford. duelIntrada Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1971 television movie Duel directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Dennis Weaver. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Emmy Award-winning composer Billy Goldenberg (Kojak, Columbo, RhodaHelter Skelter), including the full score and several radio source music written by the composer. insurgentInterscope Records will release a soundtrack album for the second part in the Divergent series, Insurgent. The album features the songs from the film by artists including M83 feat. Haim, Imagine Dragons, Royal Blood, Woodkid feat. Lykke Li, Anna Calvi, SOHN and Zella Day. Also included is a suite from the movie’s original score composed and conducted by Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Earth to Echo). The show is created by Greg Malins (Ground Floor, How I Met Your Mother, Friends) and stars Kat Foster, Kyle Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, JoBeth Williams, Ed Begley Jr. and Stephanie Hunt. The series based on the Israeli sitcom from Keshet International focuses on a different side of young couple’s family each week. Malins is also executive producing the Sony Pictures Television production with Jamie Tarses (Happy Endings, Franklin & Bash), Rubi Duanias, Yaniv Polishuk, Avi Nir & Ran Telem and Tamira Yarden. the-last-man-on-earthPremiering tonight is the new Fox comedy The Last Man on Earth created by and starring Will Forte and executive produced by Chris Miller & Phil Lord and Seth Cohen. Mark Mothersbaugh (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump StreetThe Royal TenenbaumsCloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) is composing the show’s original music. The Last Man on Earth is set in the year 2022 and follows a man who searches the entire United States for any signs of other living humans after an unknown event wipes out the entire population of Earth. secrets-and-liesAlso premiering tonight is the new ABC drama Secrets and Lies created by Barbie Kligman based on the Australian mini-series created by Stephen Irwin and starring Ryan Phillippe, Juliette Lewis, KaDee Strickland, Natalie Martinez, Dan Fogler, Indiana Evans and Belle Shouse. The show’s original music is composed by Matteo Zingales. Secrets and Lies follows a man who stumbles across the dead body of his neighbor’s young son whilefor a jog, only to find himself accused of being the murderer.
