Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the animated feature Hoppers directed by Daniel Chong and starring Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Dave Franco, Meryl Streep, Kathy Najimy, Vanessa Bayer and Eduardo Franco. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnarok, The Royal Tenenbaums, A Minecraft Movie, The LEGO Movie, C21/22 Jump Street, loudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Croods: A New Age). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as an original song by SZA today. Also opening wide is the gothic romance The Bride! written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and starring Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal and Penélope Cruz. Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker, Chernobyl, Women Talking, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, A Haunting in Venice, Hedda, Tar, Sicario: Day of the Soldado) has composed the film’s original score. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as songs by Fever Ray and the movie’ cast today. The albums feature the composer’s original score from the film and will be released digitally tomorrow, January 20. Visit Amazon to pre-order both the Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 soundtrack. The Abnormal Beauty Company is directed by Aref Mahabadi and centers on the life and career of Brandon Truaxe, founder of cosmetics conglomerate DECIEM, and chronicles the rise of his brand The Ordinary that shook the industry and changed beauty forever.

Todor Kobakov (Born to Be Blue, The Samaritan, 40 Acres, Backstabbing for Beginners, Most Dangerous Game, Tricksters, Sweetness in the Belly) has recently scored the upcoming Canadian sports drama Youngblood. The film is directed by Hubert Davis (Black Ice) and stars Ashton James, Blair Underwood, Henri Picard, Shawn Doyle, Tamara Podemski, Donald MacLean Jr., Alexandra McDonald and Allan Hawco. The movie is based on the 1986 cult classic of the same title (starring Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze & Keanu Reeves and scored by William Orbit) and follows a hockey prodigy who joins the Hamilton Mustangs and discovers that he must face off against toxic behavior on the ice and within himself to fulfill his potential as professional hockey player.

Opening in around 300 theaters this week is the Canadian post-apocalyptic thriller 40 Acres co-written and directed by R.T. Thorne and starring Danielle Deadwyler, Michael Greyeyes, Kataem O’Connor, Leenah Robinson, Elizabeth Saunders, Milcania Diaz-Rojas, Jaeda LeBlanc, Haile Amare and Tyrone Benskin. Todor Kobakov (Born to Be Blue, Backstabbing for Beginners, The Samaritan, Most Dangerous Game, Tricksters, Sweetness in the Belly) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie is set in a future where food is scarce and follows the last descendants of a Black family of farmers who settled in Canada after the American Civil War who must protect their homestead from an organized militia hell-bent on taking their land.

Kobakov Music & Sienna Films have released the first soundtrack album for the Canadian series Cardinal. The album features selections of the original score from the show’s fourth season composed by Todor Kobakov (Born to Be Blue, The Samaritan, Tricksters, Backstabbing for Beginners, Sweetness in the Belly, Most Dangerous Game). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here, where you can also check out audio samples. Cardinal is created by Aubrey Nealon and stars Billy Campbell, Karine Vanasse, Glen Gould, Eric Hicks, Kristen Thomson, Alanna Bale, James Downing, Zach Smadu and Eric Hicks. The crime drama based on Giles Blunt’s follows the titular detective and his partner as they investigate crimes in the fictional city of Algonquin Bay.
