Opening semi-wide in around 700 theaters is the sci-fi/horror thriller Her Private Hell co-written and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Sophie Thatcher, Havana Rose Liu, Kristine Froseth, Charles Melton, Aoi Yamada, Shioli Kutsuna, Dougray Scott, Diego Calva and Hidetoshi Nishijima. Pino Donaggio (Carrie, Dressed to Kill, Body Double, Blow Out, The Howling) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a couple of tracks by Julian Winding who has provided additional music, today. The film’s original music is composed by Andrew Scott Bell (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, Psycho Storm Chasers, The Death of Snow White, Home Sweet Home See You Next Christmas). Opening in select U.S. theaters this weekend is the Japanese sci-fi drama Sheep in the Box (Hako no naka no hitsuji) written and directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and starring Haruka Ayase, Daigo, Rimu Kuwaki, Kanichiro, Nana Seino, Hinata Hiiragi and Kayo Noro. Yuta Bandoh (It Comes, Belle, Look Back) has composed by the film’s original music. Nippon Columbia Co. has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score this past May when the movie opened in Japanese theaters. The movie, which is set in the near future and follows a grieving couple who have lost their son and take into their lives a humanoid identical to their late child, premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released stateside by Neon.
Also opening in select U.S. theaters today is the Italian documentary Brunello, the Gracious Visionary (Brunello, il visionario garbato) directed by Giuseppe Tornatore about fashion designer Brunello Cucinelli who is also known as Italy’s “King of Cashmere.” The film’s original music is composed by Nicola Piovani (Life Is Beautiful, Pinocchio, Hungry Hearts, The Tiger and the Snow, The Best Years, The Traitor). The composer has released a soundtrack album featuring his score this past February following the movie’s release in Italian theaters.
