Two new movies are opening nationwide this week:

focusExpected to top the weekend box office is the caper comedy Focus written and directed by Glenn Ficarra & John Requa and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Rodrigo Santoro and Gerald McRaney. The film’s original music is composed by Nick Urata (Paddington, Ruby Sparks) who previously scored the director’s I Love You Phillip Morris and Crazy, Stupid, Love. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by Bruno Hovart, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Sofa Surfers, Iggy & The Stooges, Doris & Kelley, Barbara Lewis & more. the-lazarus-effectAlso opening wide is the horror thriller The Lazarus Effect directed by David Gelb, produced by Jason Blum and starring Mark Duplass, Olivia Wilde, Evan Peters, Donald Glover and Sarah Bolger. Sarah Schachner (Assassin’s Creed: Unity) has composed the film’s original music. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring Schachner’s score earlier this week. ‘Run All Night’ Soundtrack Preview

Edward Shearmur to Score BBC’s ‘The Outcast’

ed-shearmurEdward Shearmur has been hired to score the upcoming BBC mini-series The Outcast. The two-parter is directed by Iain Softley and stars George Mackay, Greg Wise, Hattie Morahan and Jessica Brown Findlay. The drama is based on the bestselling novel by Sadie Jones who also scripted the TV adaptation and follows a young boy who struggles to fit into the life of a post-war English village after witnessing the death of his mother. Christine Langan (The Queen) & Beth Pattinson are executive producing the project for BBC, alongside Pete Czernin & Graham Broadbent (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, In Bruges) for Blueprint Pictures. Back Lot Music to Release Brian Tyler’s ‘Furious 7’ Score

furious7Back Lot Music will release a score album for the action sequel Furious 7. The album features the film’s original music composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Now You See Me, Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles) who previously scored the third, fourth and fifth installment of the series The soundtrack will be released on March 31, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. As previously reported, Republic Records will release a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the film. Furious 7 is directed by James Wan and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Lucas Black, Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey and Kurt Russell.  Read the rest of this entry »

‘Suite Francaise’ Soundtrack Preview

John Ottman to Return for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

john-ottmanJohn Ottman has officially signed on to score X-Men: Apocalypse. The film is directed by Bryan Singer and star Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassebender, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters and Rose Byrne who return in their roles from X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past. They are joined by new cast members Sophie Turner who will play Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, as well as Oscar Isaacs and Ben Hardy. Simon Kinberg who scripted the previous film in the franchise is writing the screenplay for the sequel, which takes place in the 1980s. Singer and Kinberg are also producing the project with Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker. Ottman will also once again serve as the film’s editor. Read the rest of this entry »

dont-tell-the-boy-i-was-madAlexandre Desplat is currently scoring the upcoming French drama Don’t Tell Me the Boy Was Mad (Une histoire de fou). The film is directed by Robert Guédiguian (The Snows of Kilimanjaro, Marius and Jeannette) and stars Simon Abkarian, Ariane Ascaride, Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet, Serge Avédikian and Syrus Shahidi. The movie follows a young man from Marseilles of Armenian origin who blows up the car of the Turkish Ambassador in Paris and later decides to meet a victim who was standing nearby and was hurt in the incident to make him his spokesman. Guédiguian has also co-written the screenplay with Gilles Taurand (Thieves, Farewell, My Queen) and also serves as a producer on the project. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Wild Canaries’ Soundtrack Released

wild-canariesA soundtrack album has been released for the indie comedy Wild Canaries. The album feature the film’s original music composed by Michael Montes (Whipped, Ping Pong Summer). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. Wild Canaries is written and directed by Lawrence Michael Levine and stars himself, alongside Sophia Takal, Alia Shawkat and Jason Ritter. The movie follows a Brooklyn couple that suspects foul play in the death of their elderly neighbor and decides to investigate.The comedy premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being released in select theaters and on VOD today, February 25 by Sundance Selects/IFC Films. Mark Isham to Score Gavin O’Connor’s ‘The Accountant’

The film stars Ben Affleck, Anna Kenrick, J.K Simmons, Jon Bernthal, John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor. The movie centers on a mild-mannered accountant and math genius who moonlights as a lethal assassin. Bill Dubuque (The Judge) has written the Black List-honored screenplay. Electric City Entertainment’s Lynette Howell (The Place Beyond the Pines, Blue Valentine, Big Eyes) and Mark Williams (Flawless, Arena) are producing the project. Alan Silvestri to Be Honored at World Soundtrack Awards 2015

alan-silvestri.jpgAlan Silvestri has been chosen as this year’s guest of honor at this year’s World Soundtrack Awards. The composer’s music will be performed at the 15th anniversary edition of the event, conducted by Dirk Brossé and accompanied by film fragments on the big screen, during the 42nd Ghent Film Festival on October 24, 2015. Silvestri’s credits include numerous collaborations with director Robert Zemeckis including the Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Romancing the Stone, Cast Away, The Polar Express, Contact, Flight and Forrest Gump, which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He also scored such films as Marvel’s The Avengers & Captain America: The First Avenger, the animated feature The Croods, the Night at the Museum trilogy, James Cameron’s The Abyss and The Mummy Returns.  Read the rest of this entry »
