Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the animated sequel Despicable Me 3 directed by Pierre Coffin, Kyle Balda & Eric Guillon and featuring the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Jenny Slate and Julie Andrews. The film’s original score is composed by Heitor Pereira (The Angry Birds Movie, The Smurfs) and Pharrell Williams wrote the movie’s original songs. Already playing in theaters since this past Wednesday is the action comedy Baby Driver written and directed by Edgar Wright and starring Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Jon Bernthal, Eiza González, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. Steven Price (Gravity, Suicide Squad, Fury, Attack the Block) wrote the film’s original score. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by artists including Simon & Garfunkel, Blur, Kid Koala, Sky Ferreira, The Beach Boys, T. Last night, the Television Academy presented its second live concert, Words + Music – A Concert Celebrating Music Written for Television. The event, which celebrated the importance of original songs and scores in television and was conceived and organized by Television Academy Music Governor Michael A. Levine, music director Rickey Minor and produced by Ben Carter, took place at the Saban Media Center’s Wolf Theatre at the Television Academy’s campus in North Hollywood. Mark Watters conducted several performances throughout the evening.
David Buckley is composing the music for the upcoming remake of the 1973 classic Papillon. The film is directed by Michael Noer (R, Northwest) and stars Charlie Hunnam, Rami Malek, Tommy Flanagan, Michael Socha and Nikola Kent. The movie is a modern retelling of the original, which was based on the memoirs of convicted felon and fugitive Henri Charriere. Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) wrote the screenplay. Joey McFarland & Riza Aziz (The Wolf of Wall Street), David Koplan, Ram Bergman (Looper, Brick) and Roger Corbi are producing the project.
Mosley Music and Interscope Records have released the original song Truth to Power from the documentary An Inconvenient Sequel. The track is written by Ryan Tedder and performed by OneRepublic. The song is now available as a digital single on
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the horror thriller Jasmine. The album features the film’s original music composed by Shie Rozow (Rebel, Ballistica). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 14, 2017. The download link will be added this article within the next few weeks. Jasmine is co-written and directed by Dax Phelan and stars Jason Tobin, Byron Mann, Grace Huang, Eugenia Yuan, Glen Chin and Sarah Lian. The movie follows a Hong Kong businessman who – one year after his wife’s murder – becomes obsessed with a mysterious stranger he thinks killed his wife.
Jeff Russo has been hired to score the upcoming biographical comedy drama I, Tonya. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, Fright Night) and stars Margot Robbie as figure skater Tonya Harding, Sebastian Stan as her spouse Jeff Gillooly, Allison Janney as her mother Lavona, as well as Paul Walter Hauser, Mckenna Grace, Caitlin Carver and Julianne Nicholson. The movie centers around Harding’s attack on rival Nancy Kerrigan, which was aimed at breaking Kerrigan’s leg so she couldn’t compete in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.
The full details of the first soundtrack album for the Netflix animated series Castlevania have been revealed. The album the show’s original music composed by Emmy Award winner Trevor Morris (Immortals, Vikings, Iron Fist, Olympus/London Has Fallen, The Borgias). Joseph LoDuca has been hired to score the upcoming horror thriller Cult of Chucky. The film is written and directed by 
Fall Out Boy member Patrick Stump has recently composed the original score for the upcoming animated feature Gnome Alone. The film is directed by Peter Lepeniotis (The Nut Job) and features the voices of Becky G, Josh Peck, Olivia Holt and George Lopez. The movie centers on a girl who discovers her new home’s garden contains gnomes and teams up with them to fight the menacing Troggs that threaten to overrun the house. Stump is also providing his voice to multiple roles and also wrote an original song to be performed by Becky G. Michael Schwartz and Zina Zaflow wrote the screenplay. John H. Williams (Shrek, Space Chimps) is producing the project.
