Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Wonder, The Good Shepherd) has recently scored the upcoming HBO documentary What’s My Name – Muhammad Ali. The 2-parter is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer, The Magnificent Seven) and explores the boxing legend’s greatest triumphs and comebacks through archival footage and never-before-seen photos and footage from private collections of the Ali family and others. Quartet Records has announced a soundtrack album for the supernatural thriller Down a Dark Hall. The album features the film’s original music composed by Emmy Award winner Victor Reyes (The Night Manager, Buried, Red Lights, Grand Piano). The soundtrack is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples. Down a Dark Hall is directed by Rodrigo Cortés and stars AnnaSophia Robb, Isabelle Fuhrman, Victoria Moroles, Noah Silver, Taylor Russell, Rosie Day and Uma Thurman. The movie is based on the gothic YA novel of the same name by Lois Duncan and follows a boarding school student who confronts the darkly seductive powers of the headmistress and comes face to face with supernatural abilities. Mac Quayle confirmed in a recent interview with Score It Magazine that he is scoring the upcoming Netflix original series The Politician. The show is created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk & Ian Brennan (Glee, Scream Queens) and stars Ben Platt, Barbra Streisand, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Laura Dreyfuss and Rahne Jones. Premiering tonight is the 11th season of BBC’s Doctor Who executive produced by Chris Chibnall, Matt Strevens & Sam Hoyle and starring Jodie Whittaker, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh. The show’s new composer is Segun Akinola who is taking over from Murray Gold who has scored the previous seasons. Check out our scoring assignment announcement for more information. The new season of Doctor Who will air in the U.S. on BBC America and in the UK on BBC One.
Also premiering tonight is the new animated series Star Wars Resistance created by Dave Filoni and featuring the voices of Christopher Sean, Bobby Moynihan, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Myrna Velasco, Josh Brener, Donald Faison, Jim Rash and Lex Lang. The show’s original music is composed by Michael Tavera (Drowning Mona, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Guardians of the Galaxy TV series). The Pagan King is directed by Aigars Grauba and stars Edvin Endre, James Bloor and Egons Dombrovskis. The movie is based on a 13th century legend and tells the story of a young king who must win the confidence of his people in order to defend their freedom. Frederik Wiedmann has been tapped to score the upcoming new film adaptation of the video game Doom. The film is written and directed by Tony Giglio (Chaos, In Enemy Hands) and stars Louis Mandylor, Chidi Ajufo, Jemma Moore, Arkie Reece, James Weber Brown, Nina Bergman, Amy Manson, Clayton Adams, Amer Chadha Patel and Luke Allen-Gale. No plot details have been announced yet. The movie is produced by Universal 1440 Entertainment, for which Wiedmann has previously scored numerous projects, including Jarhead 2: Field of Fire & Jarhead 3: The Siege, Tremors 5: Bloodlines & Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell and this year’s Death Race: Beyond Anarchy and The Scorpion King: Book of Souls (to be released later this month). Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the superhero movie Venom directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze and Reid Scott. The film’s original music is composed by Ludwig Goransson (Black Panther, Creed, Fruitvale Station, Community). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening nationwide is the musical drama A Star Is Born directed by Bradley Cooper who also stars in the movie, alongside Lady Gaga, Andrew Dice Clay, Anthony Ramos, Bonnie Somerville, Dave Chappelle and Sam Elliott. The album features the songs from the movie by artists such as Archie Thompson, Psychedelic Soul Crew, Ages of the Earth, Tiny Barge, Paul Montesano, Supa Nova Kaine and Mansuki.
