Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have composed the music for the upcoming heist thriller Hell or High Water. The film is directed by David Mackenzie (Starred Up, Perfect Sense, Young Adam) and stars Chris Pine, Jeff Bridges and Ben Foster. The movie follows two brothers, an ex-con and a divorced father who face the foreclosure of their family’s farm and embark on a daring bank robbery spree. Taylor Sheridan (Sicario) has written the Black List-honored screenplay. Sidney Kimmel (Lars and the Real Girl, The Lincoln Lawyer, The Place Beyond the Pines), Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor), Carla Hacken and Julie Yorn (Unstoppable, We Bought a Zoo) are producing the project.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the final installment in The Hunger Games series, Mockingjay: Part 2 directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin and Jena Malone. The film’s original music is composed by James Newton Howard (Maleficent, King Kong, The Sixth Sense, The Village). Republic Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally on Monday and physically the following week. Also opening wide is the comedy The Night Before directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, Lizzy Caplan, Julian Bell, Mindy Kaling and Michael Shannon. Marco Beltrami (Scream, World War Z, 3:10 to Yuma, The Wolverine, Warm Bodies) and Miles Hankins have composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced. ‘Mustang’ Soundtrack Released
Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the Turkish drama Mustang. The album features the film’s original music composed by Warren Ellis (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Proposition, Lawless). Also included is a song by Baba Zula. The soundtrack is now available digitally on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Mustang is directed by Deniz Gamze Erguven and stars Gunes Nezihe Sensoy, Doga Zeynep Doguslu, Tugba Sunguroglu, Elit Iscan, Ilayda Akdogan and Nihal Koldas. The movie is set in a Black Sea coastal village in modern-day Turkey and follows five orphaned sisters who live with their grandmother, an aunt and an abusive uncle.

The only wide release this weekend is Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron written and directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany and Cobie Smulders. The film’s original music is composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Furious 7) and Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman). ‘Far from Men’ Soundtrack Details
Goliath Entertainment will release a soundtrack album for the French drama Far from Men (Loin des hommes). The album features the film’s original music composed by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Proposition, Lawless). The soundtrack will be released on May 19, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Far from Men is written and directed by David Oelhoffen and stars Viggo Mortensen and Reda Kateb. The movie is loosely based on the short story The Guest by Albert Camus and follows a French teacher in a small Algerian village in 1957 during Algeria’s war of independence from France who is ordered to take a dissident to the authorities to turn him in, but the two men unexpectedly bond.

The movie is inspired by the short story The Host from French-Algerian philosopher Albert Camus’ book Exile and the Kingdom and follows a French teacher in a small Algerian village in 1957 during Algeria’s war of independence from France. Marc du Pontavice & Matthew Gledhill (War of the Buttons) are producing the project for One World Films. Cave & Ellis have previously scored such films as The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Proposition, Lawless and West of Memphis.

Three new movies have opened nationwide earlier this week on Christmas Day:
Topping the box office on Christmas Day was the movie musical Les Miserables directed by Tom Hooper and starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, Colm Wilkinson, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen. Universal Republic has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg, with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and produced and arranged by Anne Dudley. Also performing well in wide release is the western Django Unchained written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz. Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson. Loma Vista Recording has released a soundtrack album featuring a couple of new original tracks, including 100 Black Coffins by Rick Ross and produced by and featuring Jamie Foxx, Who Did That To You? by John Legend, Ancora Qui by Ennio Morricone and Elisa, and the duet Freedom performed by Anthony Hamilton and Elayna Boynton. ‘West of Memphis’ Soundtrack Announced
Sony Legacy will release the official soundtrack album for the documentary West of Memphis. The album features music from and inspired by the film, including a cover of Pink Floyd’s Mother performed by Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, Satellite by Eddie Vedder, as well as songs by artists including Lucinda Williams, Band of Horses, Patti Smith, Citizen Cope, Tonto’s Giant Nuts featuring Johnny Depp. Also included is a suite from the film’s original score composed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, as well as excerpts from Damien Echols’ letters from death row recited by Henry Rollins and Johnny Depp over the score. West of Memphis: Voices for Justice will be released physically on January 15, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. West of Memphis directed by Amy Berg (Deliver Us from Evil), produced by Peter Jackson & Fran Walsh (The Lord of the Rings), Lorri Davis and Damien Echols centers on the wrongful conviction case of three Arkansas teenagers who were found guilty in 1994 of the ritual murder of three eight-year-old boy.

Three new movies are opening wide this week:
Already in theaters since Wednesday is the gangster movie Lawless directed by John Hillcoat, based on the novel The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant and starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowski. The film’s music is composed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis who formed the band The Bootleggers (which also includes Martyn Casey, George Vjestic and David Sardy) for the project. Nick Cave & Warren Ellis Scoring ‘A Few Hours of Spring’
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have composed the score for the French drama A Few Hours of Spring (Quelques heures de printemps). The film is directed by Stephane Brize and stars Vincent Lindon, Helene Vincent, Emmanuelle Seigner, Olivier Perrier and Sylvie Jobert. The movie follows a fortysomething man who has to go back and live with his mother, a situation that renews all the fury of their earlier relationship. Brize has also written the screenplay with Florence Vignon. Milena Poylo and Gilles Sacuto (Incendies) are producing the TS Production project. A Few Hours of Spring has just premiered at the Locarno Film Festival a couple of days ago and will also be shown at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
