Mychael Danna has been tapped to compose the music for the upcoming Pixar animated short Sanjay’s Super Team. The film is directed by animator Sanjay Patel who makes his directorial debut and follows a young Indian boy who is watching cartoons on TV and begins “daydreaming a kind of ancient, Hindu version of “The Avengers,” with the gods appearing like superheroes.” Nicole Paradis Grindle is producing the short, which marks Danna’s first project for Pixar Animation and his second animated film following 2007’s Surf’s Up.

Mychael Danna Scoring Atom Egoyan’s ‘Remember’
Mychael Danna is reteaming with director Atom Egoyan on the upcoming thriller Remember. The film starring Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau, Dean Norris, Bruno Ganz, Jurgen Prochnow, Heinz Lieven and Henry Czerny is described as a “thriller in which the darkest chapter of modern history collides with a contemporary mission of revenge”. Benjamin August has written the screenplay. Ari Lantos (The Right Kind of Wrong, Stage Fright) and Robert Lantos (Eastern Promises, Being Julia, eXistenZ) are producing the project.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings directed by Ridley Scott and starring Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, Ben Mendelsohn, John Turturro, Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley. The film’s original music is composed by Alberto Iglesias (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Constant Gardener) Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as a couple of tracks written by additional composers Harry Gregson-Williams and Federico Jusid. Also opening wide is the comedy Top Five written and directed by Chris Rock and starring himself, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Hart, Tracy Morgan, Cedric The Entertainer, JB Smoove, Sherri Shepherd, Anders Holm, Romany Malco and Leslie Jones. Questlove and Ludwig Goransson have composed the film’s original score. Def Jam Recording has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from and inspired by the film by artists including Jay Z & Kanye West, DMX, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, The Roots, Rakim and Salt-N-Pepa. ‘Foxcatcher’ Soundtrack Details
Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album for the thriller Foxcatcher. The album features the film’s original music composed by Rob Simonsen (The Spectacular Now, The Way Way Back, (500) Days of Summer), as well as additional music composed by West Dylan Thordson and Academy Award winner Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Capote). Also included are the songs from the film by Bob Dylan and This Will Destroy You, as well as Arvo Pärt’s Für Alina. The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. Foxcatcher is directed by Bennett Miller and stars Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Vanessa Redgrave, Sienna Miller, Anthony Michael Hall, Guy Boyd and Dave “Doc” Bennett.
Mychael & Jeff Danna Scoring FX’s ‘Tyrant’
Mychael Danna mentioned in an interview at the BMI Film & TV Awards this past Wednesday that he is currently co-scoring the upcoming FX original series Tyrant with his brother Jeff Danna. The show is created by Gideon Raff (Homeland, The Killing Floor) and stars Adam Rayner, Jennifer Finnigan, Ashraf Barhom, Noah Silver, Moran Atias, Anne Winters, Salim Daw, Justin Kirk, Fares Fares, Jordana Spiro, Mehdi Dehbi and Alice Krige. The drama follows an unassuming American family that is drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. Raff is also executive producing the project with Howard Gordon (24, Homeland), Craig Wright (Mr. Peabody & Sherman), Glenn Gordon Caron (Moonlighting, Medium), Michael Lehmann (Heathers, 40 Days and 40 Nights), Peter Noah (The West Wing) and Avi Nir (Homeland).
Mychael Danna Honored at BMI Film & TV Awards
Last night, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), held its annual Film & TV Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Mychael Danna was honored with the Richard Kirk Award, which is bestowed on composers who have made significant contributions to the realm of film and television music. The composer whose film scoring credits include last year’s Life of Pi, for which he received his first Academy Award, as well as Moneyball, Girl Interrupted, Little Miss Sunshine, (500) Days of Summer and The Sweet Hereafter was presented the award by the night’s hosts, BMI President & CEO Del Bryant and BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations Doreen Ringer-Ross. Several of Danna’s regular collaborators congratulated him via a tribute video, including Ang Lee (The Ice Storm, Ride with the Devil), Atom Egoyan (Exotica, Chloe), Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair) and Bennett Miller (Capote). Mychael Danna to Receive BMI’s Richard Kirk Award
Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) has announced today that Mychael Danna will be honored with the Richard Kirk Award for outstanding career achievement at this year’s BMI Film & Television Awards. The composer who is recognized for his evocative blending of non-western traditions with orchestral and electronic music received his first Academy Awardin 2013 for his score for Ang Lee’s Life of Pi and was also nominated for the original song Pi’s Lullaby. Danna started his film scoring career with Atom Egoyan and composed the music for all of the director’s films since 1987, including such titles as The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica and Felicia’s Journey. The composer also collaborated multiple times with directors including Bennett Miller (Moneyball, Capote, Foxcatcher), Terry Gilliam (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Tideland), Billy Ray (Breach, Shattered Glass) and Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair).
‘Transcendence’ Soundtrack Details
WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for the sci-fi thriller Transcendence. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-winning composer Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball). The soundtrack will be released on April 15, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Transcendence is directed by Wally Pfister (cinematographer of The Dark Knight and Inception) and stars Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Clifton Collins, Jr. and Morgan Freeman. The movie about a researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions, will be released nationwide on April 18 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
