Varese Sarabande has announced the latest batch of titles in the Varese CD Club series, including four new soundtrack releases. First up is the world premiere release of the original soundtrack recording of Midway. The album features the original score by John Williams. Midway directed by Jack Smight starred Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn, Glenn Ford, Hal Holbrook, Toshiro Mifune, Robert Mitchum, Cliff Robertson and Robert Wagner. The title marked the last Williams score that has not received an official soundtrack release since Jaws.

Marco Beltrami to Score ‘The Woman in Black’
Marco Beltrami has been hired to score the upcomong gothic horror thriller The Woman in Black. The movie is directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake) and stars Daniel Radcliffe as a young lawyer who travels to a remote village in England to tend to a deceased client’s papers and soon begins to discover town’s terrible secrets. Ciarán Hinds, Janet McTeer, Sophie Stuckey and Liz White are co-starring. Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Stardust) wrote the screwnplay based on the novel by Susan Hill.
‘The Thing’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the horror thriller The Thing. The album includes the original score by Marco Beltrami. The soundtrack will be released on October 11, 2011 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. The Thing directed by Matthijs van Heijingen Jr. and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eric Christian Olsen and Joel Edgerton is a prequel to the 1982 classic directed by John Carpenter. Universal Pictures will release the movie on October 14.

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the horror thriller Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark directed by Troy Nixey, produced by Guillermo Del Toro and starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison. The film’s music is composed by Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders. A soundtrack album featuring the score has been released digitally earlier this week and will be coming out on CD on September 27 on Lakeshore Records. Also opening wide is the indie comedy Our Idiot Brother directed by Jesse Peretz and starring Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, Steve Coogan, Hugh Dancy, Rashida Jones and Shirley Knight. Nathan Larson and Eric D. Johnson composed the movie’s score. Abkco Records has released a soundtrack album including selections of the score, as well as several songs from the movie. The soundtrack will be released on October 11, 2011. The full details of the release are expected to be announced within the next couple of weeks. The movie will be released on October 14 by Universal Pictures.
‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ Soundtrack Details
Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack release for the upcoming horror thriller Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. The album features the film’s original score by Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 30, 2011 and on CD on September 27 (available for pre-order on Amazon). Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be check out below. Marco Beltrami Scoring ‘Blackbird’
Marco Beltrami is currently scoring the thriller Blackbird. The film stars stars Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde as a brother and sister fleeing after a casino heist, who meet a young boxer just out of prison. Charlie Hunnam, Kris Kristofferson, Sissy Spacek, Kate Mara and Treat Williams are co-starring. The movie is directed by Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky who previously directed The Counterfeiters, which won the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category in 2008. Zach Dean wrote the screenplay and Gary Levinsohn (Saving Private Ryan) is among the project’s prroducers.

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Scream 4 reunites director Wes Craven with composer Marco Beltrami. Two different soundtracks have been released for the horror sequel. A score album featuring Beltrami’s music will be released next Tuesday and a song soundtrack with two score tracks is available on Lakeshore Records. Also opening is the animated feature Rio, which already opened in several foreign territories last weekend generating the highest grossing international opening of the year. The film’s score is by John Powell and Sergio Mendes served as the movie’s executive music producer. Rio‘s music team also includes percussionist Carlinhos Brown, lyricist Siedah Garrett, pop singer Taio Cruz and The Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am. A score album will be released next week by Varese Sarabande and the official soundtrack featuring the film’s songs is already out on Interscope Records.

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
The comedy Arthur directed by Jason Winer and starring Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner and Greta Gerwig features music by Theodore Shapiro. A soundtrack with songs from the movie has been released earlier this week by WaterTower Music. No word on a release of Shapiro’s score. Also coming out this week is the family drama Soul Surfer starring AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt. The film’s score is by Marco Beltrami and has been released by Madison Gate Records as reported here. The album can be downloaded on iTunes. A separate soundtrack with songs from the film has been released by Rhino Records this Tuesday.
‘Soul Surfer’ Score Album announced
Madison Gate Records will release a score album for the sports drama Soul Surfer. The soundtrack includes about 46 minutes of Marco Beltrami’s original score from the movie. The album will be released digitally on April 5, 2011 and it will also be available as an Amazon on-demand CD-R on April 18. Nelson and Carrie Underwood. The film will be released on April 8.
