Dragon’s Domain Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1972 historical drama Pope Joan directed by Michael Anderson and starring Liv Ullmann, Olivia de Havilland, Franco Nero, Jeremy Kemp, Leslie-Anne Down, Natasha Nicolescu, Peter Arne, Patrick Magee and Maximilian Schell. The album features the newly remastered score from the film composed and conducted by Academy Award winner Maurice Jarre (Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, Ghost, Gorillas in the Mist, Witness, No Way Out, Jacob’s Ladder).. The soundtrack is now available to order as a limited edition CD on the label’s official website, where you can also check out the track list and listen to audio clips. Harkit Records has previously released the premiere soundtrack for the title on CD back in 2009.

Remastered Re-Recordings of ‘The Best Years of Our Lives’, ‘Citizen Kane’ & ‘The Magnificent Ambersons’ Scores Announced
Quartet Records has announced three remastered reissues of the re-recordings of three classic film scores from the 1940s. All three soundtracks have been newly remastered by Chris Malone and are being released as limited editions in the SACD format. Titles include the 1978 recording of the score for William Wyler’s 1946 drama The Best Years of Our Lives (starring Myrna Loy, Fredric March, Dana Andrews, Virginia Mayo & Teresa Wright) composed by Hugo Friedhofer and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Frank Collura, the 1991 recording of the music for Orson Welles’ 1941 classic Citizen Kane composed by Bernard Herrmann performed by the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Tony Bremner, as well as the 1991 recording of the score for Welles’ 1942 period drama The Magnificent Ambersons composed by Herrmann and performed by the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Bremner.

Quartet Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1991 psychological thriller Cape Fear directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, Joe Don Baker, Juliette Lewis, Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peack. The album features the film’s newly remastered and expanded original score composed by Bernard Herrmann (originally written for the 1962 feature of the same title) adapted, arranged and conducted by Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven, To Kill a Mockingbird, Ghostbusters, The Age of Innocence, Airplane, Far from Heaven), including around 15 minutes of previously unreleased music, as well as alternate cues. Expanded and Remastered ‘Torn Curtain’ Soundtrack Album Announced
La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1966 spy thriller Torn Curtain directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Paul Newman, Julie Andrews, Lila Kedrova, Hansjörg Felmy, Tamara Toumanova, Wolfgang Kieling and Ludwig Donath. The album, which is being released as part of the Universal Pictures Film Music Classics Collection, features the expanded and remastered original score from the film composed and conducted by John Addison (A Bridge Too Far, Sleuth, Tom Sawyer, The Seven-Per-Cent Solution), including around 30 minutes of previously unreleased music. Also included is the unused score recording by Bernard Herrmann (Psycho, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Citizen Kane, Taxi Driver, Marnie). The CD is limited to 3,000 copies and will be available to order on the label’s official website at noon today.
Bernard Herrmann’s ‘The Man Who Knew Too Much’ Score to Be Released
Intrada Records has announced the details of the label’s world premiere release of the original score from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1956 James Stewart- & Doris Day-starring thriller The Man Who Knew Too Much composed by Academy Award winner Bernard Herrmann (Vertigo, Psycho, Citizen Kane, North by Northwest, Taxi Driver, Marnie, Obsession). The album also features the composer’s score for the 1951 drama On Dangerous Ground directed by Nicholas Ray and starring Ida Lupino, Robert Ryan and Ward Bond. Both scores were newly recorded with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by William T. Stromberg earlier this year.
World Premiere Recording of Bernard Herrmann’s ‘Endless Night’ Score Announced
Quartet Records has announced the world premiere recording of the previously unreleased score for the 1972 horror mystery drama Endless Night directed by Sidney Gilliat, based on Agatha Christie’s novel of the same title and starring Hayley Mills, Britt Ekland, Hywel Bennett, Per Oscarsson and George Sanders. Reconstructed from the original manuscript by the film’s composer Bernard Herrmann (Psycho, Vertigo, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, North by Northwest), the music is performed by the Basque National Orchestra and conducted by Fernando Velázquez (The Impossible, Mama, A Monster Calls), with original Moog synthesizer sessions played by Toni Saigi.
