Sony Music has published audio clips from all tracks of the score album for Blue Sky Studios’ animated sequel Rio 2. The film’s music is composed by John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Bourne Trilogy, Shrek) and also features Brazilian singer and guitarist Milton Nascimento, the instrumental group UAKTI and the body percussion group Barbatuques. ‘Rio 2’ Soundtrack Details
Atlantic Records will release a soundtrack album for the animated feature Rio 2. The album features the songs from the film, including the original track What Is Love by Janelle Monae, which can be checked out after the jump. Also featured is the song Rio Rio, a new version of the track by Take You to Rio by Ester Dean featuring B.o.B., new tracks by Bruno Mars and his musical collaborator Philip Lawrence, as well as songs by director Carlinhos Brown and the film’s voice talent. The soundtrack will be released on March 25, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A separate soundtrack featuring John Powell’s original score will also be released. Rio 2 features the voices of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, will.i.am, Jemaine Clement, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Leslie Mann, Rodrigo Santoro and Jamie Foxx, as well as Rita Moreno, Bruno Mars and Kristin Chenoweth.

Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Scream 4 reunites director Wes Craven with composer Marco Beltrami. Two different soundtracks have been released for the horror sequel. A score album featuring Beltrami’s music will be released next Tuesday and a song soundtrack with two score tracks is available on Lakeshore Records. Also opening is the animated feature Rio, which already opened in several foreign territories last weekend generating the highest grossing international opening of the year. The film’s score is by John Powell and Sergio Mendes served as the movie’s executive music producer. Rio‘s music team also includes percussionist Carlinhos Brown, lyricist Siedah Garrett, pop singer Taio Cruz and The Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am. A score album will be released next week by Varese Sarabande and the official soundtrack featuring the film’s songs is already out on Interscope Records.
‘Rio’ Score Album Details
Varese Sarabande Records has revealed the details for the score album of the upcoming animated feature Rio. The album contains 18 tracks of John Powell’s original score for the film, as well as one track by Brazilian musician/songwriter Carlinhos Brown and Mikael Mutti. The soundtrack will be released on April 19, 2011. To order the score album, visit Amazon. As previously reported, a separate song album will be released on April 5 by Interscope Records and includes songs from the film by Sergio Mendez, will.i.am and Jamie Foxx.
John Powell Confirmed to Score ‘The Lorax’
A press release from Universal Pictures has confirmed this week that John Powell is writing the music for the upcoming animated feature The Lorax. The film based on the book by Dr. Seuss centers around a boy who searches for a way to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. He comes across the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world. The film’s voice talent includes Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, Zac Efron, Rob Riggle and Betty White. The movie is directed by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul (writers of Horton Hears a Who! and Despicable Me), as well as Chris Renaud (co-director of Despicable Me). The Lorax is the third feature from Illumination Entertainment after last year’s surprise hit Despicable Me (with music by Heitor Pereira and Pharrell Williams) and the upcoming Hop (scored by Christopher Lennertz). Powell has previously scored Blue Sky Studios’ Horton Hears a Who!, which was produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and was also based on a Dr. Seuss book.
‘Rio’ Soundtrack Status
Two soundtrack albums for the upcoming animated film Rio have been announced. Varese Sarabande Records will release John Powell’s original score from the movie on April 19, 2011. We will be posting a new article when the cover and tracklist will be published. Earlier this week, Fox Music and Interscope Records have announced a separate soundtrack album featuring songs from the movie. Artists featured on the soundtrack include Sergio Mendez, will.i.am, Jamie Foxx and Mikael Mutti. The album will be released on April 5, 2011.
