Dustin O’Halloran has joined German electronic musician Apparat to co-score the upcoming sci-fi romance Equals. The movie is directed by Drake Doremus and stars Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult and Guy Pearce. The film is set in the future and centers on a couple young couple rebelling against their society where emotions have been eradicated. Nathan Parker (Moon) wrote the screenplay. Ridley Scott and Michael Schaefer (Exodus: Gods and Kings) are producing the project for Scott Free Productions, alongside Ann Ruark (The Beaver, The Motel Life), Jay Stern (Horrible Bosses, Rush Hour 2) and Chip Diggins (A Walk in the Woods, Love and Honor).

Dustin O’Halloran’s ‘Transparent’ Theme Released
(Updated on June 2, 2015): Amazon Content Services has released the main titles theme for the Golden Globe-winning Amazon Studios original series Transparent. The theme is composed by Dustin O’Halloran (Like Crazy, Breathe In, Now Is Good). The release features the composer’s theme as featured in the show’s main titles sequence, as well as a longer solo piano version. Visit Amazon to download the EP featuring the two tracks. A full soundtrack album featuring songs from the first season of the comedy drama, as well as two tracks from O’Halloran’s score has been released earlier last December. Transparent created by Jill Soloway and starring Gaby Hoffmann, Jay Duplass, Amy Landecker, Judith Light and Jeffrey Tambor is now available to stream on Amazon and a second season will premiere later this year.

The album features the songs from the show by artists including Bob Dylan, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetics, Leonard Cohen, Jim Groce, Deee-Lite, Chaka Khan, The Kills, Neil Young & more. Also includsd are two tracks from the show’s composer Dustin O’Halloran (Like Crazy). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Transparent is created by Jill Soloway (Afternoon Delight, Six Feet Under) and stars Gaby Hoffmann, Jay Duplass, Amy Landecker, Judith Light and Jeffrey Tambor. The comedy centers around an LA family with serious boundary issues who have their past and future unravel when a dramatic admission causes everyone’s secrets to spill out.

Two new movies opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the biblical epic Noah directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins and Logan Lerman. Clint Mansell who previously scored all of the director’s features including Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, Pi, Black Swan and The Wrestler has composed the film’s original music. Nonesuch Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score by the composer who collaborated with the Kronos Quartet on the project. Also opening wide is the action thriller Sabotage directed by David Ayer and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Olivia Williams, Mireille Enos, Sam Worthingtonq, Harold Perrineau, Terrence Howard, Joe Manganiello, Max Martini and Josh Holloway. The film’s original score is composed by David Sardy (21, Zombieland, Premium Rush) who previously collaborated with Sardy on 2012’s End of Watch. No soundtrack album has been announced. Sabotage follows an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. The movie is being released by Open Road Films. ‘Breathe In’ Soundtrack Details
UPDATED in March 2014 with U.S. release info: Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for Drake Doremus’ indie drama Breathe In. The album features the film’s original score composed by Dustin O’Halloran who previously collaborated with the director on the 2011 indie Like Crazy. The soundtrack will be released on March 25, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Like Crazy is written and directed by Drake Doremus and stars Guy Pearce, Felicity Jones, Amy Ryan and Mackenzie Davis. The movie about a high school teacher who is tempted to cheat on his wife with one of his students premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in the UK on July 19. Cohen Media Group has acquired domestic distribution rights and will release the drama on March 28, 2014.
‘Now Is Good’ Soundtrack Released
Splinter Records has released a soundtrack album for the indie drama Now Is Good. The album features the film’s original score composed by Dustin O’Halloran (Like Crazy). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Now Is Good based on a novel by Jenny Downham is written and directed by Ol Parker (Imagine Me & You) and stars Dakota Fanning as a seventeen year old girl diagnosed with a terminal illness who resolves to live her life on fast forward and falls in love with her new neighbor. Jeremy Irvine, Paddy Considine, Kaya Scoledario and Olivia Williams are co-starring in the film, which is now available on DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Dustin O’Halloran to Score ‘Posthumous’
Dustin O’Halloran is scoring the upcoming comedy drama Posthumous. The film is written and directed by Lulu Wang and stars Jack Huston, Brit Marling. Lambert Wilson, Tom Schilling and Alexander Fehling. The movie is set in Berlin and follows a struggling artist whose artwork skyrockets in value when he is mistakenly thought to have killed himself. Bernadette Bürgi is producing the project for Flying Box Productions and Skady Lis & Andro Steinborn are co-producing for Getaway Pictures and Arden Films.
BMI Sundance Roundtable Videos
BMI has published several videos from last week’s film composer/director roundtable Music & Film: The Creative Process at the Sundance Film Festival. Participants include composer Terence Blanchard, composer Mark Isham and director George Tillman, Jr. whose drama The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete premiered at the festival, composer Ludwig Goransson and writer/director Ryan Cogler whose feature Fruitvale received the top Sundance honor and was picked up for distribution by The Weinstein Company, composer Rob Simonsen and director James Ponsoldt whose coming of age drama The Spectacular Now was acquired by A24 for a theatrical release (Simonsen also scored the comedy The Way, Way Back, which was picked up by Fox Searchlight as the biggest sale at the festival), composer Abel Korzeniowski and director Randy Moore who worked together on the controversial Disney theme park-set Escape from Tomorrow, composer Dustin O’Halloran who scored the indie drama Breathe In, his second project for Drake Doremus following Like Crazy and composer Craig Wedren and director Jill Solloway who collaborated on the comedy Afternoon Delight.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Hotel Transylvania directed by Genndy Tartakov and featuring the voice talent of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, CeeLo Green and Jon Lovitz. The film’s music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh who previously scored Sony Pictures Animation’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The film’s original song Problem performed by Becky G feat. will.i.am is now available to download on iTunes. No full soundtrack album has been announced yet. Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Looper directed by Rian Johnson and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels, Noah Segan and Piper Perabo. The film’s score is composed by Nathan Johnson who previously worked with the director on Brick and The Brothers Bloom. Cut Narrative has released the soundtrack album digitally and limited edition CD version featuring music not included on the digital release is available on La-La Land Records. Dustin O’Halloran to Reunite with Drake Doremus on New Indie Drama
Dustin O’Halloran is reuniting with director Drake Doremus on his upcoming, currently untitled indie drama. They have previously worked together on last year’s Sundance hit Like Crazy starring Felicity Jones, Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence. Doremus’ new film stars Guy Pearce as a high school teacher who is tempted to cheat on his wife with one of his students. Felicity Jones, Amy Ryan, Mackenzie Davis and Nico Tortorella are co-starring. Doremus has co-written the screenplay with his Like Crazy writing partner Ben York Jones. Jonathan Schwartz (Douchebag, Like Crazy) and Andrea Sperling (Harsh Times) are producing through Super Crispy Entertainment and Steven Rales and Mark Roybal (Doubt, Shaft) are producing for Indian Paintbrush. No word yet on a release date for the indie production.
