On Thursday evening, the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual reception honoring the Emmy Award-nominated composers and songwriters in the music-related categories at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences headquarters in North Hollywood. SCL president Ashley Irwin, as well as Television Academy music peer group governors Ian Fraser and Michael A. Levine introduced the nominees who briefly spoke to the audience. Among the composers in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category present at the event were Ramin Djawadi who was Emmy-nominated before for Prison Break and Fast Forward and received his first nomination this year for his score for HBO’s Game of Thrones, as well as previous Emmy winner Jeff Beal who received his third nomination for his music from Netflix’s House of Cards after being nominated twice last year for both his score and his main title theme from the show.

Premiering tomorrow, August 4, on FX is the new comedy Partners created by Robert L. Boyett & Robert Horn and starring Kelsey Grammer, Martin Lawrence, Telma Hopkins, Rory O’Malley, McKaley Miller, Edi Patterson and Danièle Watts. The show’s original music is composed by Bennett Salvay (Jeepers Creepers, Friday Night Lights, Providence). Partners follows two Chicago lawyers from vastly different backgrounds who unexpectedly meet in court as they each face a personal crisis. The comedy will air every Monday night on FX. Bear McCreary to Score BBC America’s ‘Intruders’
Bear McCreary has been tapped to score the upcoming BBC America original series Intruders. The show is created by Glen Morgan (Final Destination, The X-Files) and stars John Simm, Mira Sorvino, Tory Kittles, James Frain and Millie Brown. The drama is set in the Pacific Northwest and follows a secret society devoted to chasing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others. Morgan is also executive producing the project with Jane Tranter (Criminal Justice) & Julie Gardner (Doctor Who, Torchwood) and Rose Lam (The L Word). Tranter also serves as an executive producer on the McCreary-scored Starz series DaVinci’s Demons. Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project, Exists) and Daniel Stamm (13 Sins) have directed the first episodes of Intruders, which is set to premiere on August 23, 2014 and will air every Saturday on BBC America.
Bear McCreary’s ‘Outlander’ Main Title Theme to Be Released
Madison Gate Records will release the main titles theme for the new Starz original series Outlander. The track is composed by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) who is also composing the score for the series and features vocals by Raya Yarbrough. The theme will be released as a single on August 2, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on iTunes. Listen to the full track and watch the show’s titles sequence after the jump. Outlander is created by Ronald D. Moore based on the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon and stars Caitrona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Duncan Lacroix, Annette Badland and Stephen Walters.
Bear McCreary to Score NBC’s ‘Constantine’
It was announced this evening at Comic-Con that Bear McCreary is scoring the upcoming NBC drama Constantine. The show is developed by Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist, Dexter) & David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises) and stars Matt Ryan, Harold Perrineau and Charles Halford. The drama is based on the comic book series Hellblazer from DC Comics and follows seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine who is armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and a wickedly naughty wit. Cerone and Goyer are also producing the project for Bonanza Productions and Warner Bros. Television. McCreary has previously collaborated with Goyer on the Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. Neil Marshall (The Descent, Centurion) has directed the pilot episode. Constantine is set to premiere on October 24, 2014 and will air every Friday night on NBC.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers has published a number of video clips from the organization’s ASCAP Film & Television Music Awards gala, which was held last week at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Check out the acceptance speeches of the two honorees of the Composers’ Choice Award for Best ASCAP TV Composer of 2013, Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Dave Porter (Breaking Bad, The Blacklist), after the jump. Wendy & Lisa, Steven Price, Bear McCreary & Dave Porter Honored at ASCAP Film & TV Music Awards
Last night, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual Film & Television Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman received the inaugural ASCAP Shirley Walker Award, which honors those whose achievements have contributed to the diversity of film and television music. The composer duo, known for their work on such features as Dangerous Minds and Just Wright and TV shows including Heroes, Nurse Jackie and Touch, were presented the award by music supervisor Liza Richardson. Hans Zimmer congratulated the Emmy Award-winning composers via a video message.
‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ Season 2 Soundtrack Details
Sparks & Shadows will release a new soundtrack album for the Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. The album features almost 2 hour of music from the original score of the show’s second season composed by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) who received his first Emmy Award for the series’ main titles theme last year. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 27, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A 2-CD collector’s edition will coming out later this year. Audio clips are available after the jump. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring highlights from the music of the first season. Da Vinci’s Demons is created by David S. Goyer and stars Tom Riley, Laura Haddock, Elliot Cowan, Blake Ritson and Lara Pulver. The final episodes of the fantasy drama’s second season currently air Saturday nights on Starz with the season finale scheduled to premiere on May 31.
‘Knights of Badassdom’ Soundtrack Details
Sparks & Shadows will release a soundtrack album for the fantasy adventure Knights of Badassdom. The album includes the film’s original music composed by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Battlestar Galactica) and featurering performances by by heavy metal and rock luminaries such as Brendon Small (Dethklok), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio), Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa), Steve Bartek (Oingo Boingo), Ira Ingber (Bob Dylan), Pete Griffin (Three Inches of Blood) and Joe Travers (Zappa Plays Zappa). The only movie opening in wide release this weekend is the action thriller I, Frankenstein written and directed by Stuart Beattie and starring Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski, Miranda Otto and Jai Courtney. The film’s original score is composed by Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil (Cloud Atlas, One Hour Photo). Lisa Gerrard has composed additional music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score earlier this week. Check out our previous article for the full album details and audio clips. Opening in around 400 theaters is the indie drama Gimme Shelter written and directed by Ron Krauss and starring Vanessa Hudgens, Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser, James Earl Jones, Ann Dowd and Dascha Polanco. Olafur Arnalds (Broadchurch, Another Happy Day) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring his score is set to be released next week.
