Rolfe Kent is the composer of the upcoming dark indie comedy Bad Words. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actor Jason Bateman who also stars in the film, alongside Allison Janney, Phillip Baker Hall, Ben Falcone and Rohan Chandz. The movie follows a bitter 41-year-old high school drop out who uses a loophole in the system to enter a national kids’ spelling bee. Andrew Dodge wrote the black-listed screenplay and Bateman is also producing the Aggregate Films, MXN Entertainment and Darko Entertainment production with Mason Novick (Juno, 500 Days of Summer), Sean McKittrick (Donnie Darko, The Box), Ted Hamm and Jeff Culotta (God Bless America). Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the Norwegian epic drama Kon-Tiki. The album features the film’s original score composed by Johan Söderqvist (Let the Right One In) who recorded his score at Abbey Road Studios in London. The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 26, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Kon-Tiki is directed by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning and tells the story of Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl’s voyage on a balsa-wood raft across the Pacific Ocean in 1947. The movie stars Pål Sverre Hagen, Agnes Kittelsen, Odd-Magnus Williamson, Tobias Santelmann, Donald Baasmo Christiansen, James Oftebro, Gustaf Skarsgård and Søren Pilmark. a-ha’s Magne Furuholmen to Score ‘Beatles’ Movie

Magne Furuholmen, best known as a member of the international pop group a-ha, has signed on to compose the original score, as well as supervise the recordings of other music for the upcoming film Beatles. The movie is based on the bestselling novel by Lars Saabye Christensen and tells the story about four Norwegian youngsters growing up in the 60s and 70s, modeling themselves on their musical heroes: The Beatles. Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg whose last feature Kon-Tiki was nominated in the “Best Foreign Language Film” category at this year’s Academy Awards are directing the film from a script by Axel Hellstenius (Elling). Jørgen Storm Rosenberg (The Bothersome Man) is producing the project through his production company and has signed a deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing and EMI that several of The Beatles’ original recordings can be used in their entirety in the film. Philippe Rombi Scoring Francois Ozon’s ‘Young & Beautiful’

Philippe Rombi is reuniting with director Francois Ozon on the upcoming French drama Young & Beautiful (Jeune et jolie). The movie is written and directed by Ozon and stars Marine Vacth, Charlotte Rampling, Géraldine Pailhas, Frédéric Pierrot, Fantin Ravat and Johan Leisen. No specific plot details have been revealed yet, but the film has been described as a “contemporary portrait of a teenage girl of 17, in 4 seasons and 4 songs”. Eric & Nicolas Altmayer are producing the project. Rombi and Ozon have previously collaborated numerous times, including on such films as Swimming Pool, Angel and Potiche, as well as on the recent thriller In the House, which just opened in select U.S. cities this weekend. Premiering tomorrow, April 22, is the drama Rectify created by Ray McKinnon and starring Clayne Crawford, Abigail Spencer, Adelaide Clements, Jonah Lotan and J. Smith Cameron. The show follows a man who is released from Death Row after spending 19 years in prison and returns to his hometown where he must readjust to his new life, including unfamiliar family members and surroundings. Gabriel Mann (Modern Family, Jane by Design) has composed the show’s score, as well as the main titles theme. Dominic Lewis to Score ‘Free Birds’

Dominic Lewis has signed on to score the upcoming animated feature Free Birds. The film is directed by Jimmy Hayward and follows two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history. The movie’s voice cast includes Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson, Amy Poehler, Dan Fogler, Lesley Nicol, George Takei, Colm Meaney and Keith David. David I. Stern (Open Season 2 & 3) and John Strauss (There’s Something About Mary, The Wild) wrote the screenplay with a rewrite by Craig Mazin (Identity Thief, The Hangover Part II & III). The writers are also producing the Relativity Media and Reel FX production with Scott Mosier (Clerks, Dogma). Universal Music Group’s Def Jam Recordings will release a soundtrack album for the action thriller Fast & Furious 6. The album features the songs from the film, including the original track We Own It (Fast & Furious) by 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa. Also included is T.I.’s Ball (feat. Lil Wayne), deadmau5’s Failbait (feat. Cypress Hill) and Ludacris’ Rest of my Life (feat. Usher and David Guetta). Check out the full track list after the jump. Expected to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi action film Oblivion directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo. The film’s score is composed by Anthony Gonzalez of M83 and Joseph Trapanese (TRON: Uprising, The Raid: Redemption). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as an original end titles song by M83 featuring Norwegian singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfor earlier this week. The film’s original score is composed by John 5 & Griffin Boyce. Geffen Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score, as well as songs from the film by artists including Manfred Mann, Leviathan The Fleeing Serpent, Rick James, Rush and The Velvet Underground. Carter Burwell to Score ‘Thor: The Dark World’

According to the film’s latest poster, Carter Burwell will be scoring the superhero sequel Thor: The Dark World. The movie is directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, The Emperor’s New Clothes) and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins. The sequel is set one year after The Avengers and follows the title character on a battle to save all the Nine Realms from a mysterious enemy older than the universe itself. Christopher Yost, Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (The Chronicles of Narnia, Captain America: The First Avenger) have written the script based on a story by Don Payne (Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer).
