alexandre-desplatAlexandre Desplat revealed in an interview on Radio Classique’s Culture Club that he will be reuniting with director Gareth Edwards on the upcoming Star Wars spinoff feature Rogue One. Felicity Jones is attached to star in the film, which is scripted by Chris Weitz (CinderellaThe Golden Compass). No plot details have been revealed yet, but the movie is said to be the first in a series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga. max-richterMax Richter will embark on a U.S. mini tour which runs March 22 – 29, 2015. The composer will be performing compositions from HBO’s The Leftovers at select shows along with music from his various solo albums including The Blue Notebooks, Infra, and Vivaldi Recomposed live. First stop will be at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on March 22 (click here to buy tickets), followed by Le Poisson Rouge in New York on March 25 & 26 (click here for more information) and Big Ears in Knoxville, TN on March 28 & 29 (click here for more details). Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

cinderellaGuaranteed to top the weekend box office is Disney’s live-action adaptation of Cinderella directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Lily James, Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden, Stellan Skarsgard, Holliday Grainger, Sophie McShera, Derek Jacobi and Helena Bonham-Carter. The film’s original music is composed by Patrick Doyle (Sense and Sensibility, Thor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well the film’s songs including the original end titles track Strong written by Doyle, Branagh & Tommy Danvers and performed by Sonna Rele. frozen-feverPlaying in front of Cinderella is Disney’s new animated short Frozen Fever directed by Jennifer Lee & Chris Buck and featuring the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad. Christophe Beck (Edge of TomorrowThe MuppetsThe Hangover) who scored 2013’s feature has also composed the score for the short film, while Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Bobby Lopez have contributed a new original song. douglas-pipes Legendary Pictures has announced that Douglas Pipes is set to score the upcoming horror comedy Krampus. The film is directed by Michael Dougherty (writer of X2 & Superman Returns) and stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, Allison Tolman, David Koechner, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania Owen and Krista Stadler. The movie follows a young boy who turns his back on Christmas as his dysfunctional family comes together and clashes over the holidays. When they accidentally unleash the wrath of Krampus — an ancient entity from European folklore — beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own. Dougherty has also co-written the screenplay with Zach Shields and Todd Casey (Thundercats) and is also producing the project with Legendary’s Thomas Tull & Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Pacific Rim, 300: Rise of an Empire) and Alex Garcia. The film is directed by Ben Falcone (Tammy) and stars Melissa McCarthy, Peter Dinklage, Kristen Bell, Kathy Bates and Timothy Simons. The movie follows a titan of industry, who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading and later emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart. McCarthy and Falcone have also written the screenplay with Steve Mallory. The film will be produced by McCarthy and Falcone through their On the Day production company, alongside Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy & Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, The Other Guys) for Gary Sanchez Productions.
