happyishNathan Larson is composing the music for the new Showtime original series Happyish. The show is created by Shalom Auslander and stars Steve Coogan, Kathryn Hahn, Bradley Whitford, Sawyer Shipman, Carrie Preston, Molly Price and Andre Royo.  The comedy drama follows a couple who face obsolescence in a youth-obsessed culture where people in their 40s are halfway to dead. Auslander is also executive producing the project with Ken Kwapis (He’s Just Not That Into YouVibesThe Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) who directed the pilot episode. Larson has previously collaborated with Kwapis on the feature A Walk in the Woods starring Robert Redford, Nick Nolte & Emma Thompson, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Broad Green Pictures for a release later this year.  Read the rest of this entry »

the-dovekeepersThe details of the soundtrack album for the CBS mini-series The Dovekeepers have been revealed. The album features the series’ original music written by Emmy Award-winning composer Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Monk, Rome, Carnivale, Ugly Betty). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 7, 2015. A physical release is planned for later this year. The Dovekeepers is directed by Yves Simoneau and stars Cote de Pablo, Rachel Brosnahan & Kathryn Prescott, Diego Boneta and Sam Neill. The 2-parter produced by Roma Downey & Mark Burnett is based on Alice Hoffman’s bestselling novel and centers on a group of extraordinary women whose lives intersect in a fight for survival at the siege of Masada. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jon and Al Kaplan who also co-wrote the movie’s screenplay with director Jordan Rubin. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. A limited edition CD version will be released on April 21, 2015 and will be available on the label’s official website. homeRelativity Music Group will release a soundtrack album for DreamWorks Animation’s Home. The album features the film’s original score composed by Lorne Balfe (Penguins of MadagascarMegamindThe Bible). The soundtrack will be released digitally on April 14, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Sony Classical is distributing the album overseas. Two tracks from the score are embedded after the jump. IMG_2472.CR2Carlo Siliotto has signed on to score the upcoming martial arts epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend. The film is directed by Yuen Wo-Ping (Tai Chi Master) who has served as the martial arts choreographer on The Matrix trilogy and Kill Bill and stars Michelle Yeoh who is reprising her role as Yu Shu-Lien from the original film, as well as Donnie Yen as Silent Wolf. Harry Shum Jr., Jason Scott Lee, Roger Yuan, Eugenia Yuan and Natasha Liu Bordizzo are co-starring. No plot details have been announced yet, but the movie is said to tell a story of “lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption”. GSPO to Perform Superhero Soundtracks in Concert

superhero-soundtracksOn Saturday, April 18, the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) will present Superhero Soundtracks. The concert will feature the music from numerous comic book movies, including Marvel’s Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and The Avengers, as well as the themes from Superman, The Dark Knight, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-Men. Special guests to appear at the event include Christopher Lennertz who recently scored the first season of Marvel’s Agent Carter TV series, Craig Safan (The Last Starfighter), Jason Livesay who composed additional music for X-Men: Days of Future Past, as well as surprise guests.
