Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, The Royal Tenenbaums). Already playing in theaters since this past Wednesday is the comedy A Bad Moms Christmas written and directed by Jon Lucas & Scott Moore and starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Jay Hernandez, Cheryl Hines, Peter Gallagher, Justin Hartley, David Walton, Christine Baranski and Susan Sarandon. Adam Taylor (The Handmaid’s Tale, Before I Fall) is scoring the new USA original series Damnation. The show is created by Tony Tost (Longmire) and stars Killian Scott, Logan Marshall-Green, Sarah Jones, Chasten Harmon, Melinda Page Hamilton, Christopher Heyerdahl and Joe Adler. The period drama is set in the 1930s and follows a man masquerading as a small town Iowa preacher in the hopes of starting a full-blown insurrection against the status quo.
Patrick Doyle confirmed in an interview with HeyUGuys at the world premiere of Murder on the Orient Express in London this week that he will be reteaming with Kenneth Branagh on the director’s upcoming film adaptation of Artemis Fowl. The movie is based on Eoin Colfer’s children’s books, which follow the 12-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl II, whose plot to extort gold from the secret Fairy People puts him directly in the crosshairs of some of the most dangerous creatures on earth.
Capitol Nashville has released a soundtrack album for the National Geograhic event series The Long Road Home. The album features songs from and inspired by the show by artists including Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Eric Paslay, Darius Rucker, Hayes Carll, Dixie Chicks, Ryan Adams, Kip Moore, John Mellencamp & more. Hollywood Records and Marvel Music will release the original music from the Disneyland theme park attraction Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. Tyler Bates (300, John Wick, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead, The Punisher) who previously scored both Guardians of the Galaxy movies wrote a song for the experience. Universal Music will release a soundtrack album for the drama The Man Who Invented Christmas. The album features the film’s original music composed by Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, The Good Dinosaur, Capote, Little Miss Sunshine). Decca Records will release a soundtrack album for the family movie Paddington 2. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, Kubo and the Two Strings, Anna Karenina). Stephen Schwartz (The Prince of Egypt, Pocahontas, Enchanted) and singer/songwriter Jon Ondrasik (aka Five for Fighting) will be composing original music for the ABC musical drama Harmony. The show created by Peter Paige & Bradley Bredeweg (The Fosters) and Jacob Chase is set in the town of Harmony, New York, where residents are known to sing and dance to express their emotions and follows a detective who left the town as a teenager who must return to help solve a crime.
The full details of the soundtrack album for the period drama Mudbound have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Tamar-Kali. Also included is the original song Mighty River performed by Mary J. Blige and co-written by the singer/songwriter, Raphael Saadiq & Taura Stinson.
