oscars9 This morning, the nominations for the 89th Academy Awards were announced. Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2016 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® and televised live on the ABC Television Network. Here are the music-related nominations:

Gustavo Santaolalla Scoring Thierry Klifa’s ‘Tout nous sépare’

gustavoGustavo Santaolalla is reteaming with director Thierry Klifa on the upcoming French drama Tout nous sépare. The film stars Catherine Deneuve, Diane Kruger, Nicolas Duvauchelle and Nekfeu. No plot details have been revealed yet. Klifa also co-wrote the screenplay with Cedric Anger (Next Time I’ll Aim for the Heart). François Kraus & Denis Pineau-Valencienne (L’ennemi intime), Maxime Delauney and Romain Rousseau are producing the project. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Rachel Portman (Emma, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Never Let Me Go, The Vow). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, January 27 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. A Dog’s Purpose is directed by Lasse Hallström and stars Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, Britt Robertson, K.J. Apa, Juilet Rylance, Luke Kirby, John Ortiz, Pooch Hall and the voice of Josh Gad. The movie based on the bestselling novel by W. The album features the film’s original music composed by Cristobal Tapia de Veer (Utopia, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, National Treasure). The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 27, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The album will also be released on CD and on vinyl. The Girl with All the Gifts is directed by Colm McCarthy and stars Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton, Paddy Considine and Sennia Nanua. The movie takes place in an underground bunker, where children are being examined by scientists in the hopes of finding a cure for a fungal spore that has infected the planet. The album features the film’s original music composed by Brian Tyler (Fast & Furious series, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Now You See Me, Thor: The Dark World) and Robert Lydecker (Sleepy Hollow, Designated Survivor). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, January 27 by Varese Sarabande and physically on February 17. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. iron-skyTuomas Kantelinen is currently recording his score for the upcoming sci-fi action adventure comedy Iron Sky: The Coming Race. The film is directed by Timo Vuorensola and stars Lara Rossi, Vladimir Burlakov, Kit Dale, Udo Kier, Julia Dietze and Tom Green. The movie is the sequel to 2012’s hit feature Iron Sky in which a group of Nazis plan to take over the world after lying dormant in a secret military base on the moon. The show’s original music is composed by Blake Neely (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Blindspot). The movie follows a young farmer in Yorkshire who numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker for lambing season ignites an intense relationship that sets him on a new path. The track is performed by Common & singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas, written by Common, Karriem Riggins, Robert Glasper and Samora Pinderhuges. Riggins and Glasper are also producing the song. Burning Sands is directed by Gerard McMurray and stars Trevor Jackson, Alfre Woodard, Steve Harris, Tosin Cole, DeRon Horton and Trevante Rhodes. The drama takes place in the world of fraternities and follows a favored pledgee who is torn between honoring his code of silence or standing up against the intensifying violence of underground hazing.
