Milan Records has announced first-ever release of the original score for Spike Jonze’s 2013 sci-fi romantic drama Her starring Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde and Scarlett Johansson. The album features the film’s original score composed by Arcade Fire and their longtime collaborator Owen Pallett (The Box, Spaceship Earth) who received an Academy Award nomination for their music in 2014. Owen Pallett Scoring Jerrod Carmichael’s ‘On the Count of Three’
Owen Pallett (Her, The Box, Spaceship Earth, Life) is composing the original score for the upcoming comedic thriller On the Count of Three. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Jerrod Carmichael and stars himself, alongside Christopher Abbott, Tiffany Haddish, J.B. Smoove, Lavell Crawford and Henry Winkler. The movie follows a man who has reached a place where he feels the only way out is to end things and teams up with his best friend, who is recovering from a failed suicide attempt, to execute a double suicide plan. Ari Katcher & Ryan Welch (Ramy) wrote the screenplay.
‘Spaceship Earth’ Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for the documentary Spaceship Earth. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Owen Pallett (Her, The Box, Life). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 22 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. Spaceship Earth is directed by Matt Wolf and tells the story of a group of countercultural visionaries who built an enormous replica of earth’s ecosystem called Biosphere 2 in 1991. The movie follows the countercultural collective over half of a century, as they conducted experiments around the globe leading up to Biosphere 2.

Premiering today in the U.S. is the British/French TV series The Tunnel based on the Scandinavian drama The Bridge and starring Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy. The music from the show’s first season is composed by Adrian Johnston (Becoming Jane, Kinky Boots, Bridesheads Revisited, Dancing on the Edge) and the second season is scored by Ben Bartlett (Walking with Dinosaurs, The Mark of Cain). The drama follows two detectives working together to find a serial killer who left the upper-half body of a French politician and the lower-half of a British prostitute in the Channel Tunnel. Owen Pallett is scoring the upcoming documentary Suited. The film is directed by Jason Benjamin and centers on Bindle & Keep, a Brooklyn tailoring company that is known for making custom suits for a growing legion of gender-nonconforming clients. Benjamin is also producing the project with Lena Dunham (Girls, Tiny Furniture), Jenni Konner (Girls), Carly Hugo (Higher Ground, Mother of George), Stacey Reiss and Ericka Naegle. Pallett’s previous scoring credits include Her, for which he received an Academy Award nomination, Richard Kelly’s The Box and Anton Corbjin’s Life, which was released in the U.S. earlier this month.

Owen Pallett Scoring Anton Corbijn’s ‘Life’
Owen Pallett is composing the music for the upcoming drama Life. The film is directed by Anton Corbijn (Control) and stars Robert Pattinson, Dane DeHaan, Joel Edgerton and Ben Kingsley. The movie is inspired by the true story of a friendship that developed between Magnum photographer Dennis Stock and actor James Dean when Stock was commissioned to photograph the actor for LIFE magazine in 1955. Luke Davies (Candy, Reclaim) has written the screenplay. Christina Piovesan (The Whistleblower, Amreeka), Benito Mueller, Wolfgang Mueller, Iain Canning & Emile Sherman (he King’s Speech, Shame) are producing the project.
SCL Hosts Reception for Oscar-Nominated Composers & Songwriters
Yesterday afternoon, the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual reception honoring the Academy Award-nominated composers and songwriters in the Best Original Score and Best Original Song category in Beverly Hills. SCL president Ashley Irwin introduced the nominees who briefly spoke to the audience. All six nominated composers in the score category were in attendance, including Alexandre Desplat, nominated for the sixth time for his score for Stephen Frears’ Philomena, who talked about the first Oscar concert this past week and thanked Academy governors Charles Fox and Arthur Hamilton for putting together the event. William Butler and Owen Pallett, nominated for the first time for their music from Her, were joined at the reception by Arcade Fire members Win Butler and Régine Chassagne and the film’s director Spike Jonze.
