Nathan Barr is scoring the upcoming AMC original series The Son. The show is created by Philipp Meyer, Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy and stars Pierce Brosnan, Jacob Lofland, David Wilson Barnes, Jess Weixler, Henry Garrett, Elizabeth Frances, Zahn McClarnon, Paola Nunez, James Parks, Carlos Bardem and Sydney Lucas. The drama is based on Meyer’s novel of the same title and revolves a Texas family’s and rise and fall over multiple generations, concurrent with America’s birth as a superpower. The creators are also executive producing the AMC Studios and Sonar production with showrunner Kevin Murphy (Defiance, Caprica).

(Premiering on Tuesday, January 10, is the FX mini-series Taboo created by Steven Knight and starring Tom Hardy, Oona Chaplin, David Hayman, Michael Kelly, Franka Potente and Jonathan Pryce. Max Richter (The Leftovers, Waltz with Bashir, Miss Sloane, Disconnect, Testament of Youth) has composed the original music for the 8-parter. Premiering on Thursday, January 12, is the Crackle original movie Mad Families directed by Fred Wolf and starring Charlie Sheen, Leah Remini, Finesse Mitchell, Juan Gabriel Pareja, Charlotte McKinney, Naya Rivera, Chris Mulkey, Lil Rel Howery, Tiffany Haddish, Clint Howard, Chanel Iman, Barry Shabaka Henley, Efren Ramirez and Danny Mora. The film’s original music is composed by J. Peter Robinson (Cocktail, Wayne’s World, The World’s Fastest Indian, The Bank Job). Weekly TV Music Roundup (June 19, 2016)
Premiering today in the U.S. is the British/French TV series The Tunnel based on the Scandinavian drama The Bridge and starring Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy. The music from the show’s first season is composed by Adrian Johnston (Becoming Jane, Kinky Boots, Bridesheads Revisited, Dancing on the Edge) and the second season is scored by Ben Bartlett (Walking with Dinosaurs, The Mark of Cain). The drama follows two detectives working together to find a serial killer who left the upper-half body of a French politician and the lower-half of a British prostitute in the Channel Tunnel. Premiering tomorrow, June 20, is the documentary Suited directed by Jason Benjamin and produced by Lena Dunham. Owen Pallett (Her, Life, The Box) has composed the film’s original music. The movie centers on Bindle & Keep, a Brooklyn tailoring company that is known for making custom suits for a growing legion of gender-nonconforming clients. OWN’s ‘Greenleaf’ to Feature Music by Nathan Barr
Nathan Barr is composing the original score for the new OWN original series Greenleaf. The show is created by Craig Wright (Tyrant, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Dirty Sexy Money) and stars Merle Dandridge, Lynn Whitfield, Keith David, Lamman Rucker, Tye White, Kim Hawthorne, Gregory Alan Williams, Deborah Joy Winans and Oprah Winfrey. The drama is set against the backdrop of a sprawling Memphis megachurch and follows an estranged daughter and disillusioned preacher who has returned home after 20 years on the occasion of the mysterious death of her sister.
Nathan Barr Scoring Amazon’s ‘Casanova’
Nathan Barr has composed the music for the new Amazon Studios pilot Casanova. The show marks the TV debut of Academy Award-nominated director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children, A Very Long Engagement) and stars Diego Luna in the title role, alongside Bojana Novakovic, Miranda Richardson and Ben Daniels. The period drama is set in the 18th century and follows Venetian Giacomo Casanova who escapes from prison and flees to France. Stuart Zicherman (Six Degrees, Elektra) has written the pilot script and is also executive producing the project with Jeunet and Electus’ Ben Silverman (The Office, Marco Polo).
‘Hemlock Grove’ Season 2 Soundtrack Released
Varese Sarabande has released a new soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Hemlock Grove. The album features selections from the original score from the show’s second season composed by Nathan Barr (Hostel, True Blood, The Americans, Cabin Fever). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring music from the series’ first season. Hemlock Grove is executive produced by Eli Roth based on the novel by Brian McGreevey and stars Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, Landon Liboiron and Bill Skarsgard.
Nathan Barr to Score WE tv’s ‘South of Hell’
Nathan Barr has been tapped to score the upcoming WE tv original series South of Hell. The show stars Mena Suvari, Zachary Booth, Bill Irwin, Drew Moerlein, Lamman Rucker and Paulina Singer. The supernatural thriller is set in Savannah, GA and follows a demon hunter whose power stems from within. Eli Roth who previously collaborated with Barr on such projects as Hostel, Cabin Fever and Hemlock Grove directed the pilot episode. He is also executive producing the series with Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Whiplash), James Manos, Jr. (Dexter, The Shield), Gerard Bocaccio, Stewart Till and Gene Stein are executive producing the Sonar Entertainment and Blumhouse Television production.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Strange Magic directed by Gary Rydstrom, produced by George Lucas and featuring the voices of Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph, Sam Palladio, Meredith Anne Bull, Alfred Molina, Elijah Kelley, Bob Einstein and Peter Stormare. Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge, Kick-Ass) serves as the film’s musical director and has also composed the original score. Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by the voice cast. Also opening wide is the thriller The Boy Next Door directed by Rob Cohen, produced by Jason Blum and starring Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Guzman, John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. The film’s original music is composed by Randy Edelman who previously scored such films as Dragonheart, xXx and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor for Cohen and Nathan Barr (True Blood, The Americans). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the score earlier this week and Varese Sarabande will release a physical version next month. Click here for the full album details. ‘The Boy Next Door’ Soundtrack Details
Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack album for the thriller The Boy Next Door. The album features the film’s original music composed by Randy Edelman (xXx, Kindergarten Cop, Dragonheart, The Last of the Mohicans) and Nathan Barr (True Blood, Hostel, The Americans, Cabin Fever). Lisbeth Scott is features as a vocalist. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 20, 2015 and can be pre-ordered on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. A CD version is set to be released on February 17 by Varese Sarabande and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Boy Next Door is directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) and stars Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Guzman, John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. The movie produced by Jason Blum follows a newly separated mother who begins an affair with a teenage neighbor who befriends her son.
Nathan Barr Working on ‘True Blood’ Musical
Nathan Barr revealed at last night’s Season 7 premiere of True Blood in Hollywood that he is working on a musical adaptatation of the HBO drama. The composer who has been scoring the show since the pilot episode in 2008 pitched the project to creator and executive producer Alan Ball. The musical will revolve around the series’s lead character of Sookie Stackhouse, portrayed in the show by Anna Paquin. Stephen Moyer who plays Bill Compton already helped Barr to put together some samples to present to HBO and Ball. The composer who is also scoring FX’s The Americans and Netflix’s Hemlock Grove hopes to present a workshop version of the musical in 2015.
