CJ E&M Music has released a soundtrack album for the post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer. The album features the film’s original music composed by Marco Beltrami (World War Z, 3:10 to Yuma, Scream). The soundtrack is currently only available in Asia (visit YesAsia to order the CD as an import). No word yet on a domestic release date. Snowpiercer is directed by Bong Joon-ho (The Host) and stars Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Ed Harris, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer and Ewen Bremner. The movie marks the Korean director’s English-language debut and follows the surviving members of humanity as they struggle to survive amidst a world covered in ice on a supertrain where the poor and the rich are constantly at odds.

Expected to top the weekend box office is the superhero film The Wolverine directed by James Mangold and starring Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushim. The film’s music is composed by Marco Beltrami (World War Z, Scream) who previously scored Mangold’s 3:10 to Yuma. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Opening semi-wide is the comedy The To Do List directed by Maggie Carey and starring Aubrey Plaza, Johnny Simmons, Bill Hader, Alia Shawkat, Rachel Bilson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Andy Samberg, Donald Glover and Connie Britton. Universal Music Enterprises has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s songs including a number of 90s classics by Tears for Fears, Cranberries, Mazzy Star, House of Love, Elastica, Gin Blossoms and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Audio clips from the soundtrack album for the superhero film The Wolverine have been published. Film Music Panels at Comic-Con 2013 Announced

The line-up for two film music-related panels at Comic-Con 2013 has been announced. On Thursday, July 18, a number of film directors and composers will participate in the panel The Anatomy of Superhero Film Music: Bringing a Comic Book to Life. Composer Marco Beltrami and director James Mangold (The Wolverine), composer Brian Tyler and director Shane Black (Iron Man 3), composer Matthew Margeson and director Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2), composer Christopher Lennertz (Marvel: Agent Carter) and music supervisor Dave Jordan (The Avengers) will discuss the challenges faced when bringing a comic book character to life and giving that character a voice, working with directors and how they collaborate to convey the story of the character.

Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is Pixar’s animated film sequel Monsters University directed by Dan Scanion and featuring the voice talent of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi Jennifer Tilly, Frank Oz, John Ratzenberger and Kelsey Grammer. The film’s music is composed by Randy Newman who previously scored 2001’s Monsters, Inc. Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as track from Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso of the electronic music trio Swedish House Mafia. ‘World War Z’ Remixes EP Announced
Warner Bros. Records will release an EP for the zombie thriller World War Z featuring remixes of the film’s original score by Marco Beltrami. The release features four remixes by Mystery Skulls, Justin Warfield, Future Funk Squad and BLKHRTS. The EP will be released tomorrow, June 18 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label will also release a soundtrack album featuring Beltrami’s score. Check out our previous article for the album details. In related news, Beltrami will be appearing at a meet and greet and signing in celebration of the release of the World War Z score album this Wednesday, June 19 at Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood. The first 100 fans to purchase their World War Z Fan Pack at Amoeoba Music in Hollywood get a pass to the screening and in-theater signing with the composer, a score album and a film poster. Sony Classical will release the official soundtrack album for the comic book adaptation The Wolverine. The album features the film’s original score composed by Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Scream, World War Z). The Wolverine is directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line) and stars Hugh Jackman in the title role. The film takes the character of the X-Men universe to modern-day Japan where he faces a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. The movie is set to be released nationwide on July 26 by 20th Century Fox.
‘World War Z’ Soundtrack Details
Warner Bros. Records will release a soundtrack album for the zombie thriller World War Z. The album features the film’s original score composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, 3:10 to Yuma, The Hurt Locker). The soundtrack will be released on June 18, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The album will also be released on Vinyl on July 16 (click here to pre-order). World War Z is directed by Marc Forster and stars Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale and Matthew Fox. The film follows an official of the U.N. who is trying to get back to his family as he travels the globe looking for ways to stop the pandemic. The movie will be released nationwide on July 21 by Paramount Pictures.
Concert Line-Up Announced for International Film Music Festival in Cordoba 2013
The full details of three major concerts at this year’s International Film Music Festival in Cordoba have been announced. On June 28, the festival will host its first Elmer Bernstein Award Gala Concert, where Marco Beltrami will be the recipient of the new Elmer Bernstein Award. Peter Bernstein will conduct a tribute to Elmer and there will be a 60 minute concert program devoted to the film music of Beltrami, including performances of such scores as Hellboy, I, Robot, Soul Surfer and the upcoming Snowpiercer. On June 27, another concert entitled The Best of the Best will be held and feature music of Academy Award-winning composers Mychael Danna (Life of Pi) and Rachel Portman (Emma), as well as Peter Bernstein (The Ewok Adventure), Alfons Conde (The Abandoned) and Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust). All composers will be attending the event.
