Only one new movie is opening nationwide this weekend:
Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is the sci-fi action adventure Transformers: Age of Extinction directed by Michael Bay and starring Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles, Bingbing Li, Titus Welliver and TJ Miller. The film’s original music is composed by Steve Jablonsky (Ender’s Game, Battleship) who previously scored Bay’s last five features, including the previous three Transformers movies. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is expected to be announced soon. Imagine Dragons have written the original song Battle Cry for the film, which is now available to download as a single here. Opening in Los Angeles and New York before expanding nationwide is the musical comedy drama Begin Again written and directed by John Carney and starring Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine, Hailee Steinfeld, James Corden, Ceelo Green and Catherine Keener. 222 Records in partnership with Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film written by Gregg Alexander, who also provided the film’s original score, as well as Danielle Brisebois, Nick Lashley, Nick Southwood, Rick Nowels, John Carney and Glen Hansard and performed by the film’s cast. Marco Beltrami has been tapped to score the upcoming action thriller November Man. The film is directed by Roger Donaldson and stars Pierce Brosnan, Olga Kurylenko, Luke Bracey, Will Patton and Bill Smitrovich. The movie follows an ex-CIA operative who is pitted against his former pupil on a race to find a woman who is hiding from her past and who holds the key to an international conspiracy. Michael Finch (Predators) and Karl Gajdusek (Oblivion, Last Resort) have written the screenplay based on the book There Are No Spies by Bill Granger based on his 13-part November Man series. Beau St. Clair (The Thomas Crown Affair, Laws of Attraction) of Irish Dreamtime and Sriram Das (Veronika Decides to Die) of Das Films are producing the project. 
This past Saturday night, film music record label Varèse Sarabande hosted their 35th Anniversary Halloween Concert Gala at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, California. The concert was hosted and produced by Robert Townson and performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) and Chorale. Highlights included a suite from the comic book film adaptation of Ghost Rider, which Golden Globe-nominated composer Christopher Young (The Shipping News, Spider-Man 3) arranged specifically for the concert and which featured a full orchestra, chorus and a heavy metal band led by Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo. The performance was received with a standing ovation by the audience. Additionally, Oscar nominee Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, World War Z) made his concert conducting debut with a suite of his scores for Alex Proyas’ I, Robot and Knowing, as well as Guillermo del Toro’s Mimic and Hellboy.

The film’s original score is composed by Carter Burwell (Fargo, Twilight, Being John Malkovich).
