Premiering today is the AMC original series Mayfair Witches developed by Esta Spalding & Michelle Ashford based on Anne Rice’s best-selling trilogy and starring Alexandra Daddario, Jack Huston, Harry Hamlin and Tongayi Chirisa. The show’s original music is composed by Will Bates (The Magicians, Unbelievable, Away, The Path, I Origins, The Looming Tower). Check our previous article to learn more about the 8-parter, which will air Sundays on AMC and will also be available to stream on AMC+.

Premiering on Thursday, January 12, is the HBO Max animated series Velma developed by Mindy Kaling & Charlie Grandy based on characters from the Scooby-Doo franchise and starring Kaling, Constance Wu, Glenn Howerton and Sam Richardson. Craig DeLeon (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, Music, End of the Road, The Last Survivors) has composed the show’s original music. Ellen Reid Scoring Sarah Adina Smith’s Hulu Film ‘The Drop’

Composer Ellen Reid is reuniting with director Sarah Adina Smith on the upcoming comedy The Drop. The film starring Anna Konkle, Jermaine Fowler, Aparna Nancherla, Jillian Bell, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Jennifer Lafleur, Elisha Henig, Joshua Leonard & Robin Thede follows a happily married couple who face a marriage test when one of them drops a baby during a tropical island wedding. Smith (Looking for Alaska, Goodbye World) & Leonard also co-wrote the screenplay.

DJ Steve Angello to Produce Music for The CW’s ‘The Drop’

DJ Steve Angello has joined the CW drama project The Drop as executive music producer. The show is being developed by Kyle Jarrow (A Very Merry Unauthorized Children’s Scientology Pageant) who is writing the screenplay and R.J. Cutler (The September Issue, Nashville) who is set to directed the project’s pilot. The series is set in Miami’s electronic dance music scene and centers on a DJ teetering on the edge of ruin who finds hope in a gifted protégé who is female and African-American, both rarities in the EDM world.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the family movie Dolphin Tale 2 written and directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Harry Connick, Jr., Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson, Nathan Gamble, Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Austin Stowell. The film’s original music is composed by Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, The Manchurian Candidate). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. The movie also features the original song You Got Me performed by Gavin DeGraw and written by Academy Award winner Diane Warren. Visit iTunes to download the track.

Also opening nationwide is the thriller No Good Deed directed by Sam Miller and starring Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson, Leslie Bibb, Kate del Castillo and Henry Simmons. Paul Haslinger (Underworld, Halt and Catch Fire, The Girl Next Door) has composed the film’s original score. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Marco Beltrami Takes Over Scoring Duties on Michael R. Roskam’s ‘The Drop’

Marco Beltrami has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming crime thriller The Drop. The movie, which was previously entitled Animal Rescue, marks the English language feature debut of director Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead) and stars Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Matthias Schoenaerts, James Gandolfini and John Ortiz. The film follows a lonely Boston bartender who rescues a puppy from a garbage can and becomes the target of the dog’s abusive and mentally unstable former owner. Dennis Lehane has written the screenplay based on his own short story (Mystic River, Shutter Island). Peter Chernin & Dylan Clark (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) are producing the project with Mike Larocca.
