Walt Disney Records has released a new soundtrack album for Pixar’s animated feature Soul. The album features eight jazz selections from and inspired by the film by Jon Batiste who received his first Academy Award this year for his work on the movie. Five of the tracks included on the record have previously only been released as part of the vinyl jazz album released last December. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and other digital music services. The original soundtrack, which also includes the original score by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, as well as another vinyl edition featuring the composers’ score have previously been released at the time of the film’s release.

Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Jon Batiste were honored with the Academy Award for their score for Pixar’s Soul at tonight’s 93rd Oscar ceremony. Reznor & Ross have previously received their first Oscar for their music for 2010’s The Social Network and were also nominated this year for their music for David Fincher’s Mank. The composers previously received the Golden Globe, Critic’ Choice Award and BAFTA Award for their work on the animated movie. Check out their acceptance speech after the jump. Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross & Jon Batiste were honored with their first Annie Award in the Outstanding Achievement, Music in an Animated Feature Production category for the music from Pixar’s Soul. The other contenders in the category were Mychael Danna & Jeff Danna for Onward, Steven Price, Christopher Curtis, Marjorie Duffield & Helen Park for Over the Moon, Mark Mothersbaugh, Alessia Cara, Jon Levine, Colton Fisher for The Willoughbys and Bruno Coulais for Wolfwalkers.

Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross & Jon Batiste have received their first BAFTA Award for their music for Pixar’s Soul in the Original Score category today at the Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony. They previously received the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award for their work on the animated movie and is also nominated for an Academy Award. Check out Ross’ acceptance speech after the jump. Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross & Jon Batiste were honored with the Critics’ Choice Award in the Best Score category for their music for Pixar’s animated movie Soul at tonight’s virtual 26th Critics’ Choice Awards. Reznor & Ross previously won the award in 2011 for their score for David Fincher’s The Social Network and were also nominated this year for their work on Fincher’s Mank. The other composers nominated in the category were Ludwig Göransson for Tenet, James Newton Howard for News of the World, Alexandre Desplat for The Midnight Sky and Emile Mosseri for Minari.

Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross & Jon Batiste have received their first SCL Award in the Outstanding Original Score in a Studio Film category for their music for Pixar’s Soul at tonight’s 2nd Annual Society of Composers & Lyricists Awards. The other composers nominated in the category were James Newton Howard (News of the World), Ludwig Göransson (Tenet), Terence Blanchard (Da 5 Bloods) and Reznor & Ross were also nominated for their score for Mank. In the Outstanding Original Song for Visual Media category, Savan Kotecha, Fat Max Gsus & Rickard Goransson were honored for their song Husavik from the Netflix film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. Carlos Rafael Rivera won the prize in the Outstanding Original Score for a Television Production category his score for the Netflix limited series The Queen’s Gambit.

Premiering on Wednesday, December 23 is the period drama Sylvie’s Love written and directed by Eugene Ashe and starring Tessa Thompson, Nnamdi Asomugha, Eva Longoria, Aja Naomi Kin, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Jemima Kirke. The film’s original music is composed by Fabrice Lecomte. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on Wednesday. The full album details will posted on this page within the next couple of days. The drama premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime.
Premiering on Friday, December 25 is the animated feature Soul directed by Pete Docter and starring Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Ahmir Questlove Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and Daveed Diggs. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Watchmen, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl, Mank) have composed the film’s original score and Jon Batiste has provided original jazz compositions and arrangements. Walt Disney Records has released a digital soundtrack featuring the score, the jazz music and the songs from the movie (click here for the full album details) and has also released two separate vinyl soundtracks featuring the score and Batiste’s jazz music (click here for more details). Soul will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+.
‘Soul’ Soundtrack Album Released
Walt Disney Records has released the digital soundtrack album for Pixar’s animated feature Soul. The album features both the film’s original score composed by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Watchmen, Gone Girl, Mank), as well as the original jazz compositions and arrangements by Jon Batiste. Also included are the songs Rappin Ced performed by Daveed Diggs, Parting Ways performed by Cody ChesnuTT, as well as Batiste’s cover of the Curtis Mayfield classic It’s All Right. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here. As announced last week, the label is also releasing two separate vinyl editions featuring Reznor’s & Ross’ score and Batiste’s jazz music today. ‘Soul’ Jazz Album Details
The full details of the jazz album for Pixar’s animated movie Soul have been announced. The album features the original jazz compositions and arrangements from and inspired by the film by Grammy Award nominee Jon Batiste. Also included is his cover of the Curtis Mayfield classic It’s All Right. The soundtrack will be released on vinyl on December 18 (visit Amazon to pre-order). A digital version featuring both the jazz tracks and Trent Reznor’s & Atticus Ross score, which is being released separately on vinyl, will be coming out on the same day. Soul is directed by Pete Docter and stars Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Ahmir Questlove Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and Daveed Diggs. The movie follows a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town, when he is taken from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth.

Walt Disney Records will release two soundtracks for Pixar’s animated feature Soul, including an album featuring the film’s original score composed by Academy Award winners Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Watchmen, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Mank), as well as a separate album featuring the jazz compositions and arrangements by Jon Batiste who is best known for being the bandleader on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and also served as a cultural consultant for the movie.
