Ilan Eshkeri has recently composed the music for the upcoming indie drama Still Alice. The film is written and directed by Richard Glatzer & Wash Westmoreland (The Last of Robin Hood, Quinceanera) and stars Julianne Moore, Kristen Stewart, Alec Baldwin, Kate Bosworth and Hunter Parrish. The movie is based on a novel by Lisa Genova and follows a successful Columbia University professor who struggles to maintain her mind and self after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. Lex Lutzus (Age of Heroes), James Brown and Pamela Koffler (One Hour Photo, Hedwig and the Angry Inch) are producing the project. Still Alice is set to premiere later this month at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Ilan Eshkeri to Score James McTeigue’s ‘Survivor’
Ilan Eshkeri is set to reteam with director James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, The Raven) on the upcoming thriller Survivor. The movie stars Milla Jovovich, Pierce Brosnan, Dylan McDermott, Angela Bassett and Robert Forster. The film follows a State Department employee who is newly posted to the American embassy in London, where she is given responsibility for stopping terrorists from getting into the US. Philip Shelby has written the screenplay. Irwin Winkler (Rocky, Goodfellas, Life as a House) is producing the project with Charles Winkler (Rocky Balboa, De-Lovely, Boaz Davidson (The Legend of Hercules) and Matt O’Toole (Before I Go to Sleep. Eshkeri has previously scored McTeigue’s 2009 feature Ninja Assassin.
Ilan Eshkeri Scoring Kevin Macdonald’s ‘Black Sea’
Ilan Eshkeri has recently recorded his score for the upcoming thriller Black Sea. The film is directed by Kevin Macdonald and stars Jude Law, Grigoriy Dobrygin, Konstantin Khabenskiy, Sergey Kolesnikov, Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Sergey Puskepalis, Michael Smile, David Threlfall and Jodie Whittaker. The movie follows a rogue submarine captain who, after being laid off from a salvage company, pulls together a misfit crew to go after a sunken treasure rumored to be lost in the depths of the Black Sea. Dennis Kelly (Utopia) has written the screenplay. Macdonald is also producing the project with Charles Steel (Marley) for Cowboy Films. The director has previously collaborated with such composers as Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, State of Play), Atli Orvarsson (The Eagle) and Jon Hopkins (How I Live Now).

Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is Captain America: The Winter Soldier directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie and Robert Redford. The film’s music is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph. Mica Levi from the experimental pop music band Micachu and the Shape has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Levi’s score earlier this week. Premiering on Wednesday, January 29, on BBC America is the biographical mini-series Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond directed by Mat Whitecross and starring Dominic Cooper in the title role as Ian Fleming, as well as Laura Pulver, Lesley Manville, Rupert Evans, Anna Chancellor, Samuel West, Annabelle Wallis and Camilla Rutherford. Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust, 47 Ronin, The Young Victoria) and Tim Wheeler who previously scored Whitecross’ Ashes and Spike Island have composed the series’ original score. No word on a soundtrack album. Ilan Eshkeri and Tim Wheeler have composed the score for the biographical mini-series Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond. The series is directed by Mat Whitecross (Road to Guantanamo) and stars Dominic Cooper as Ian Fleming, alongside Laura Pulver, Lesley Manville, Rupert Evans, Annabelle Wallis, Anna Chancellor, Samuel West and Camilla Rutherford. The four-parter follows the author’s time with the British Naval Intelligence, which inspired him to invent super-spy James Bond. John Brownlow (Sylvia) and Don MacPherson (Entrapment) have written the script.

Five new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the fantasy comedy drama The Secret Life of Walter Mitty directed by Ben Stiller and starring himself, Kristen Wiig, Shirley MacLaine, Adam Scott, Kathryn Hahn and Sean Penn. The film’s original score is composed by Theodore Shapiro (Tropic Thunder, The Devil Wears Prada) and features vocals by Jose Gonzalez. Shapiro has also co-written the original songs Step Out and Stay Alive with Craig Wedren. The songs performed by Gonzalez are featured on a separate soundtrack, which also includes track aby Junip, Of Monsters and Men, David Bowie and more (click here for the full details). Also opening this week is The Wolf of Wall Street directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Jon Favreau, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal and Jean Dujardin. The film doesn’t feature any original score. Theodore Shapiro composed a couple of cues for the infomercials and ads featured in the movie. Virgin Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Billy Joel, Bo Diddley, Elmore James, Eartha Kitt, Howlin’ Wolf, The Lemonheads, Cannonball Adderley and Joe Cuba. ’47 Ronin’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the martial arts action adventure 47 Ronin. The album features the film’s original score composed by Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust, Layer Cake, The Young Victoria). The soundtrack will be released on December 24, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. 47 Ronin is directed by Carl Rinsch and stars Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ko Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano and Rinko Kikuchi. The film scripted by Chris Morgan (Fast Five) & Hossein Amini (Drive) and produced by Scott Stuber (Ted), Pamela Abdy (Identity Thief) and Eric McLeod (Mr. & Mrs. Smith) follows the 47 Ronin, a band of samurai swordsmen who avenge the death of their master in 18th century Japan. The movie will be released nationwide on December 25, 2013 by Universal Pictures.

Premiering on Friday, October 25 is the new drama Dracula created by Daniel Knauf (Carnivàle) and starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jessica De Gouw, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Katie McGrath, Thomas Kretschmann and Nonso Anozie. Trevor Morris (The Borgias, Immortals, Olympus Has Fallen) is composing the show’s original score. Check out our previous news article to learn more about the series, which follows Dracula as he arrives in 1890s London posing as an American entrepreneur and hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier. Dracula will air every Friday night on NBC.
‘Justin and the Knights of Valour’ Soundtrack Announced
Sony Music will release a soundtrack album for the upcoming animated feature Justin and the Knights of Valour. The album features the film’s original score composed by Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust, Layer Cake, The Young Victoria). Also included is the original song Heroes performed by Rebecca Ferguson. The soundtrack will be released in the UK on September 9, 2013. Justin and the Knights of Valour is directed by Manuel Sicilia and features the voice talent of Freddie Highmore, Saoirse Ronan, Charles Dance, Rupert Everett, Antonio Banderas, Mark Strong, Alfred Molina, Julie Walters, Tamsin Egerton and Olivia Williams. The movie follows an idealistic boy who is determined to become a knight in shining armor, but his magical kingdom is in painful transition to a modern age dominated by bureaucracy. The film will be released in the UK on September 13 throughout the rest of Europe over the next couple of months.
