George Fenton (Dangerous Liaisons, Groundhog Day, Ever After, Anna and the King, The Blue Planet) has recently recorded his score for the upcoming British comedy drama The Duke. The film is directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Changing Lanes) and stars Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren, Fionn Whitehead, Matthew Goode and Anna Maxwell Martin. The movie revolves around a 60 year-old London cab driver who in 1961 stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery, the only robbery in the museum’s history. Richard Bean and Clive Coleman have written the screenplay.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (July 31, 2020)
Opening in select theaters today is the documentary Rebuilding Paradise directed by Ron Howard. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, The Lion King, Inception) & Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The LEGO Batman Movie, Bad Boys for Life). A soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score for the movie, which also features Pearl Jam’s River Cross as its end credits song, will be announced soon. Opening on VOD today is the romantic drama The Secret: Dare to Dream directed by Andy Tennant and starring Katie Holmes, Josh Lucas, Celia Weston and Jerry O’Connell. George Fenton (The Blue Planet, Hitch, Groundhog Day, Dangerous Liaisons, Anna and the King) has composed the film’s original music. Lightning Glasses and Tone Tree Music have released the original song Waiting written and performed by Striking Matches today. ‘The Piano Framed’ Album Announced
Shogun Music will release the album The Piano Framed, which features new recordings of scores by Academy Award-nominated composer George Fenton for solo piano, arranged and performed by pianist Simon Chamberlain. Among the titles featured on the album are Shadowlands, The Blue Planet, Dangerous Liaisons, You’ve Got Mail, Groundhog Day, Anna and the King, Ever After: A Cinderella Story, The Object of My Affection, We’re No Angels and The Lady in The Van. The Piano Framed will be released digitally on July 31, 2020 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A limited edition vinyl and CD edition featuring 17 of the 24 tracks included on the digital release will be coming out on August 14 (visit the composer’s official website to order).

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Onward directed by Dan Scanlon and starring Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer. The film’s original score is composed by Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Capote, Little Miss Sunshine) and Jeff Danna (The Good Dinosaur, The Addams Family, Storks). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as an original song co-written and performed by Brandi Carlile. Composer George Fenton (Dangerous Liaisons, Groundhog Day, Cry Freedom, The Blue Planet, Cold Pursuit) is reuniting with director Andy Tennant on the upcoming drama The Secret. The film starring Katie Holmes, Josh Lucas, Jerry O’Connell and Celia Weston centers on a hard-working widow with three children who hires a handyman to fix her house during a terrible storm, only to realize that, as he grows closer to the family, he carries a secret connection to her past.
‘Red Joan’ Soundtrack Details
MovieScore Media will release a soundtrack album for the British thriller Red Joan. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Academy Award nominee George Fenton (Groundhog Day, Dangerous Liaisons, Hitch, You’ve Got Mail, Blue Planet). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, May 10 and will be available to download here. A CD version will be released by Quartet Records. Red Joan is directed by Trevor Nunn and stars Judi Dench, Sophie Cookson, Stephen Campbell Moore and Tom Hughes. The movie tells the story of Joan Stanley, the seemingly demure physicist who was also a long-serving British spy for the KGB.

Composer George Fenton (Dangerous Liaisons, Groundhog Day, Hitch, The Blue Planet) is reuniting with director Ken Loach on the upcoming drama Sorry We Missed You. The film starring Kris Hitchen, Debbie Honeywood, Katie Proctor and Rhys Stone explores the issue of hardship in modern-day Britain through the story of a young couple scraping to get by in a casual jobs market. Paul Laverty (Even the Rain) wrote the screenplay and Rebecca O’Brien (You Were Never Really Here) is producing the project.

The details of the soundtrack album for the action thriller Cold Pursuit have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee George Fenton (Dangerous Liaisons, Groundhog Day, Hitch, Cry Freedom, Blue Planet).
