Strong Place Music will release a soundtrack album for the Lifetime mini-series The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe. The album features the film’s original music composed by David Carbonara (Mad Men, The Guru, Spanking the Monkey, Are You Here, The Romanoffs). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, March 15 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also check out audio samples. The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe is directed by Laurie Collyer and stars Kelli Garner, Susan Sarandon, Emily Watson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Eva Amurri Martino. The 2-parter explores Monroe’s complicated relationships with her mother, foster mother and legal guardian, her struggles with mental illness and her ties with the Kennedys.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the dramatic thriller Money Monster directed by Jodie Foster and starring George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell, Dominic West, Giancarlo Esposito and Caitriona Balfe. The film’s original score is composed by Dominic Lewis (The Man in the High Castle, Free Birds) and produced by Henry Jackman. Sony Classical and Madison Gate Records have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Click here for the full album details. Also opening wide is the horror thriller The Darkness directed by Greg McLean and starring Kevin Bacon, Radha Mitchell, David Mazouz, Lucy Fry, Matt Walsh and Jennifer Morrison. Johnny Klimek (One Hour Photo, Sense8, Cloud Atlas, The International) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The Darkness (previously entitled 6 Miranda Drive) follows two families who return from a summer camping trip in the Grand Canyon with a supernatural presence in tow. Retrospective: The Music of ‘Mad Men’ Soundtrack Announced
Republic Records, in partnership with Chop Shop Music and Lionsgate Entertainment will release a new soundtrack album for the AMC hit series Mad Men. The album features a collection of songs from all seven seasons of the show by artists including Bob Dylan, Roberta Flack, The Beach Boys, Bobby Helms, RJD2, Frank Sinatra, The New Seekers, Vic Damone, as well as actors Christina Hendricks, Robert Morse, Jessica Paré & more. Also included are two suites from the drama’s original score composed by David Carbonara. Retrospective: The Music of Mad Men will be released digitally on October 9, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Mad Men created by Matthew Weiner and starring Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones, Christina Hendricks, Bryan Batt, Michael Gladis, Aaron Staton, Rich Sommer, Maggie Siff and John Slattery aired between 2007 and 2015 on AMC.

Premiering tomorrow, May 25, is the History mini-series Texas Rising directed by Roland Joffe and starring Bill Paxton, Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olivier Martinez, Thomas Jane, Crispin Glover and Jeremy Davies. The show’s original music is composed by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Elf, Iron Man 2) and Bruce Broughton (Silverado, Tombstone). Universal Music Group Nashville has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score, as well as the original song Take Me To Texas written by Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark, as well as a cover version of Tom Petty’s I Won’t Back Down performed by Kris Kristofferson and the original piece Igual Que Yo performed by guitarist José Feliciano earlier this week. Also making its U.S. premiere on Memorial Day is the drama Grace of Monaco directed by Olivier Dahan and starring Nicole Kidman, Tim Roth, Frank Langella, Paz Vega, Parker Posey, Derek Jacobi and Milo Ventimiglia. Christopher Gunning (La Vie En Rose) has composed the film’s original score and Guillaume Roussel (3 Days to Kill) has contributed additional music. Hamburger Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music, as well as classical pieces by Erik Satie, Jean Sibelius and more last year. The two-parter is directed by Laurie Collyer (Sherrybaby) and stars Kelli Garner, Susan Sarandon, Emily Watson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Eva Amurri Martino. The four-hour TV event is based on J. Opening in most theaters is the action thriller White House Down directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, James Woods, Richard Jenkins, Joey King and Rachelle Lefevre. The film’s music is composed by Thomas Wander and Harald Kloser (2012, 10’000 B.C., The Day After Tomorrow). A soundtrack album featuring the composers’ music was released digitally today and will be coming out on CD on July 23. Also opening wide is the buddy cop comedy The Heat directed by Paul Feig and starring Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthy, Demian Bichir, Marlon Wayans and Michael Rapaport. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album earlier this week featuring the songs from the film by artists including LCD Soundsytem, Santigold, Kimbra, The Isley Brothers, Angel Haze, Parliament, Azealia Banks, Ted Nugent, Boston and Kreayshawn. New ‘Mad Men’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Silva Screen Records will release a new soundtrack album for AMC’s critically acclaimed series Mad Men. The album features selections from the score of the show composed by David Carbonara. Mad Men On the Rocks will be released overseas on August 5, 2013. No word yet on a domestic release. Lionsgate Records has previously released a number of soundtracks featuring the composer’s score from the early seasons. Click here to download the first score album. Mad Men is created by Matthew Weiner and stars Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, Christina Hendricks and John Slattery. The season finale of the sixth season of the drama will air this Sunday on AMC.

Four new dramas are premiering on the major networks this week:
Premiering on September 27 is the ABC drama Last Resort created by Shawn Ryan & Karl Gajdusek and starring Andre Braugher, Scott Speedman, Robert Patrick, Autumn Reeser, Max Adler, Daisy Betts and Dichen Lachman. The show’s music is composed by Robert Duncan (Castle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) who has previously scored Ryan’s The Unit, Terriers and The Chicago Code. Check out our previous article for a behind-the-scenes video with Duncan collecting different sounds on an actual submarine. Last Resort will be airing every Thursday night on ABC.
David Carbonara Scoring the CBS Drama ‘Vegas’
David Carbonara is the composer of the new CBS period drama Vegas. The series is created by Nicholas Pileggi (Goodfellas, Casino) & Greg Walker and stars Dennis Quaid as Sheriff Ralph Lamb and Michael Chiklis as Chicago mobster Vincent Savino. Carrie-Anne Moss, Jason O’Mara and Taylor Handley are co-starring in the show, which is set in 1960s Las Vegas as it begins its rise as a gambling and entertainment mecca. James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) has directed the pilot episode and is also executive producing the CBS Television Studios production with his producing partner Cathy Konrad (Scream), Pileggi, Walker and Arthur Sarkissian (Rush Hour trilogy). The show marks Carbonara’s first TV scoring assignment since the critically acclaimed and multiple Emmy Award-winning AMC drama Mad Men.
